I still remember Matt's part on Guitar World's 'Betcha can't play this', made me pick up the guitar and learn Trivium songs. I can still play Suffocating sight ;)
The type of pick he uses also has a big influence on the sound. His pick is very "scratchy" sounding. Some people like it, because it cuts through the mix and some people hate it. In my experience, a thin, hard pick that's not too rounded off will do the trick. It also helps to play at a slight angle.
@@The_JustJoshing I use the standard white Tortex .88mms. It's not only harder to hit wrong notes with them, but they've made my attack sound a lot snappier. I'd used Epiphone mediums before that, but it was like playing with a plastic bottle cap. I bet Matt's are extremely economic.
Je me souviens de votre 'chat/interview, un bon moment passé en votre compagnie! Merci également pour ce super moment aujourd'hui. Thanks Matt for your accessibility, and kindness!
Bro these guys picking hands are out of control, I can keep up for like half a song and then my shoulder is cooked lmao respect to these guys; they are my absolute guitar idols ever since I was in 9th grade when ascendancy came out
Great episode! I think Guillaume’s tone was a bit different, but more than close enough! 😄 Also, Matt Heafy looks like an awesome person, besides a great guitar player!
Does anyone know what the BPM is for this song? My count is somewhere between 110-120? Bearing in mind all the 16ths are confusing me so I'm probably way off.
@@chrismeadows4216 Nope. Its around 210-215 bpm on recording, which is insanely hard for the picking hand. Its very simple to measure that. Live they did it much faster...
Wow. I look insane with a beard. Why didn’t anyone tell me?
We would just be stating the obvious!
"Everybody looks better with a beard, even women." Oprah 2021, maybe.
Wait... did you mean insane, in a bad way? I can't tell haha
Thank you so much @Matthew kiichichaos Heafy!
I'm just laughing a lot here @Gonçalo Ferreira.
Guilty, sorry. Totally insane! LOCK HIM UP!!! :D
@@allanmori_ glad I could make you laugh! Have a great day, friend!
This Matt dude is pretty good at playing Trivium stuff

I remember that issue! The one with The Crusade songs?

jazz 3s baby all day lol
Yeah the scratchy sound can be a bit harsh
It's a custom Jazz III with max grip, I believe. I'm not sure if Tortex or not, but it's most likely.
Fact check: they're nylon and cross-scored.
@@chrismeadows4216 Yeah, it's Matt's signature pick. I have a few and they're by far my go to pick.

160. If I remember correctly, Travis had some bass triggers on the studio recording. Obviously, he could play it pretty well live, though.
@@chrismeadows4216 y’all are both wrong it’s 215, that shit is fast as fuck
@@carson4lex when it'd been played at studio tempo, absolutely not. At concert tempo, it'd been played at as fast as 300bpm.
