- The rugby keeps on coming...so the videos keep on coming. A glimpse at the future stars in Green and Gold this weekend against Portugal in Bloemfontein? My thoughts on selection.
I live in South Africa (I'm British) I love your channel as I've learnt so much from your reporting. So happy you had a fabulous time. Come back soon. 😊
Gotta love South African winters 😅
Glad you arrived safely, Tim.
Next time you're in South Africa, you HAVE to try a Biltong potjie. I'll even give you the recipe:
Ingredients:
1. Biltong (sliced)
2. Sliced mushrooms
3. Grated cheddar cheese
4. Cooked penne pasta
5. Cooked white basmati rice
6. Fresh Cream
How to cook:
1. Little bit of oil in bottom of potjie (this will be the three-legged cast iron pot)
2. Start the layers in the potjie. First a few scoops of the cooked white basmati rice.
3. Cover the basmati rice with a few scoops of the cooked penne pasta.
4. Cover the pasta with some of the sliced mushrooms.
5. Cover the mushrooms with the sliced biltong (just make sure it's covered. Don't use all the biltong)
6. Cover the biltong with the grated cheddar cheese. Don't use all the cheese. Just cover the biltong.
7. Repeat steps 2 - 6 twice.
8. Put the potjie over the some heated coals (Low heat. You don't want the food to burn).
9. Check the pot intermittently to make sure the bottom doesn't burn. Don't stir.
10. After about 1.5 to 2 hours the top portion of cheese should be melted. After the cheese on the top of all the layers is melted, pour the fresh cream over and close the lid.
11. After about 15 minutes, you can dish up.
12. Enjoy.
Tim, I bet 90% of your subscribers are South African. Guys, let’s get him to 100,000
See you back soon!
And believe me when I say CAPE GARDEN ROUTE. You need to do it.
100% garden route literally breathes life into its visiters
Cheers, Tim!! I feel sad that you arrived to a gloomy UK; I did warn you that some of your heart will remain in SA!!! Thank you for visiting us!!!!❤❤
Happy to see Lukhanyo Am in the squad. Miss watching that guy. What a player.
100% agree. But he has his work cut out for him if he wants the 13 jersey back - Jesse has been brilliant!
@@Karma-qt4ji ironically, we said that about Jesse a few years back. He grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
@@DonovanBanks Not even ironically. A few years ago Jesse was one of my least favourite players. I used to pull my hair out every time he crabbed sideways and forced our wingers to touchline. I never thought he would be good at this level but am absolutely over the moon to be proven wrong!!
Am coming for U preggo.
Kwagga is a fantastic player, but the most impact full player in world rugby from the bench.
Totally agree. I quite like Wiese but am scared that he has moments where he does something bonkers that can be costly. We really needed him for the second test against the Irish.
Missing Duane already
Kwagga will go down as an all-time great. And yeah, I prefer getting that oomph from him coming on at the fifty minute mark and just being an absolute nuisance.
@@hyonimarru yip, too many penalties from Wiese
@@hyonimarru This!!
Tim you appreciated us! But we really appreciate you thank you! Love your enthusiasm and knowledge on the game.
Cape Town's winter weather looks very much like what you've come home to.
First of all, absolutely love the channel and being featured on social media platforms in SA you will definitely pick up a massive follower base, I'm definitely one. A little bit off the topic, if you think the vibe at Loftus which by the way I attended and Kings Park is electric wait until you go to Ellis Park. The crowd is as hostile and thunderous as a tornado. Enjoy your time coming back and looking forward to more of your vids
wait till you get to Cape! :))))
Very insightful, you know more about SA rugby than most South Africans. Love these reactions, learn a lot
Lmao this is not true, don't doubt our people's rugby knowledge.
It's a historic game .Just to be enjoyed not made to much of.
Tim - can't wait for your return to SA. You are going to LOVE Cape Town ❤. Haven't seen anything yet 👌
Tim, so glad you visited this amazing country.
We need our own saffas who live abroad to wake tf up..
You have done so much for SA...
Rugby is massive in SA as you know. Its a culture from years before.Craven week...
You have embraced SA in so many ways.
Thanks so much for coming here to see SA. Your next visit will be as memorable if not better.
Got to go to PSD...wine farm..
Take care stay safe
Glad you're home safe Tim. See you back in SA soon..
Louw, Fassi and RG Snyman could all start for the Boks in the rugby championship. Keen to see how they go this weekend.
Sa looks forward to having you here again. Thanks for your great compliments.
Injury update according to Rassie at presser earlier:
Malcolm Marx (Tibia fracture - undetermined period)
Franco Mostert (Broken leg - 6 weeks)
Edwill vd Merwe (6 weeks) Pieter-Steph du Toit (4-6 weeks)
😢
I heard Mostert is 6 months? I hope I’m wrong
Lol 6 weeks broken leg. Is he not human?
Dear Tim as a proud South African I agree with you that no 8 is one position which is open because Evan Roos Jasper Wiese and Elrich Louw compete not to mention Vameron Hanekon and a few others. Fullback is a position where Willie adds a lot of value but Willemse his own as well. Tough choice there in my opinion. I don't agree with Wessels at prop. Although I am a BULLS supporter he has yet to convince me. I think he is better at hooker but thats just my humble opinion. Lastly I would just like to thank you for your channel because you know the game. We love the game as do many millions of people across our planet and you were so right when you said love for rugby is like a passport! No other game or sport in the world has the values that rugby has. Win with humility lose with dignity and always respect your opponents. Your most kind words about our beautiful country made all of us proud. Thank you so much.
Howzit Tim, my take on where the Boks are now, and especially after the 2nd Irish test (which didn't showcase Bok rugby well), is that the Boks coaching might now start fazing out the old for the new, well in time before 2027. The upcoming game against Portugal is the likely signal for this I reckon. I see the likes of Faf, Sous Mostert (my Bok favourite), Handre and Willie le Roux being fazed out of future Boks starting lineups in favour of younger and more dynamic players that are ready to take up their starting spots. I would guess that senior players would then be used off the bench in the last 15/20 minutes of play, having fresh legs and the experience to help direct the required play at that point (whatever it is then) for the win. Grant and kobus are the obvious replacements for Faf; Kwagga is best as an impact flank off the bench ( how he was given a run at nbr 8, twice, is anyone's guess), Sasha/Mannie in for Handre and with Willie now being sidelined with concussion twice in the last 4 weeks, he may not get to play much more rugby. Damian Willemse or Fassi is the obvious choices for fullback position. We need to mix our play to become an unpredictable entity to the opposition in the future; power forwards (we have already) with dynamic backline play. See how Ireland used that against us to score their tries. Then who will stop us? 😊
Agree with most of what you said but Kobus is 34 and we have some excellent 9's at URC level. Grant played well at the weekend but I am not sure he is the answer - would love to see Sanele given a chance.
Pollard only looks good when Willie takes over all of his roles except for the kicking tee. Time for someone to step up and take over. Perhaps Sacha?
Very telling how difficult the Ireland test was if you look at the injuries. In the press conference Rassie said Psdt is injured. Mostert injured. Willie injured. So some forced changes but still happy with the new blood in the team
Spot on your thoughts about the back row, and more than Evan Roos I’m excited to see Phepsi Buthelezi’s debut….and thinking he may be a No. 8. Also nice to see Thomas du Toit back. Very interesting team.
I think Gumede has way more potential than Phepsi
@@antondupreez8205 very different players though. You could reasonably have them both in the same team.
I would love to see Thomas Du Toit getting a longer-term run, as back up to Ox.
Longer term meaning, replace.
Warm greetings from the island of Cyprus. I am South African living here.. Keep up with your videos. Costa Constantinides.
Egg Master hope you enjoyed our beautiful country ❤
So happy you're coming back Tim and that you enjoyed you visit . You even like biltong !
8 and 15 for me up for grabs
Williams and Libbok would be my choice, also a fit Moodie and Sasha Feinberg Mngomezulu as centres. A fit Damian Willemse at fullback.
Yes, hard agree with this!!
this backline will run wild circles around opponents, but worry that nobody in there can be the "bash-up" if needed
It's Sacha
❤@@real_bakerman
Moodie is a terrible defender. The Bulls tried him at centre and it was a disaster.
So, Tim, when are you and the family moving to SA...? 🙂
We have Biltong!
Readily available in the UK too. Delivered to your door 😋😋😋
I heard the Irish weather is even worse.....
Hugely exciting line-up this one Tim
Going to see new sparkles emerging here most definitely
Thanx stacks
👊🔥

Thanks for all you do Tim.
Love your fair and honest remarks. You are great for the game of rugby
Good to see there is no Faf de klerk in this squad, feels so refreshing
I think the best think that Rassie can do for Faf is to drop him. Faf need to release that performance matter and cannot be selected base on this caps.
@@JohnMichaels-fs7bi he let me down. Wasn't sure if this my faf or what.
Fassi was brilliant against Wales. Nice to see him back in the mix.
And he is lethal in open play
He was spectacular under the high ball, and that's great, but we ideally want a playmaker at the back. Someone who can come into the line and unlock defenses, and I'm not seeing that from Fassi (yet), unfortunately.
I really think Grobbelaar and Ben-Jason has a chance to show something
Willemse 15 VS NZ
Could be some backline surprises
Grant Williams
Hi Tim. I'm glad you enjoyed your time in SA and stayed safe. If good wine is your thing, I would recommend visiting Franchoek in the Cape Winelands on your next trip.
Can't wait to see the Lions Boys in the green jersey.
Edwin van der Merwe is injured, hence why he’s not playing. Quite a shame I thought he made the biggest impact as one of the debutants. Would also like to see Cameron Hanekom, pity he’s injured as well.
Hey Tim. Next time you come through please do a live video. Your fans will come find you. I was at the stadium and would've loved to come meet you.
On the point of SA winter and UK winter... this is exactly why I have been saying that the URC should be played between April and October. It just makes more sense weather wise, and will make for fewer blow-out game I believe.
Yes. If NH rugby wants to advance to another level, summer sport. They can’t think outside the box those folk.
Seeing this, it has just dawned on me why Razzie stuck with the players who lost to Ireland at the WC, intending to prove that that team could whoop Ireland, backfired big time and short of a couple of TMO calls could have been disastrous. Be interesting to see how the up and coming talents gel in the next few games especially against NZ.
Backfired big time ? We lost by one point 🤦🙆
@@TipOfAfrica0010 yes that word 'lost' kinda makes a difference, all the talk before was that SA was going to thrash Ireland in front of the Home supporters, so 1 lucky win and 1 loss doesn't cut the mustard. Also after 3 fortunate 1 point wins at the WC, all we got was that SA were the greatest of all time, Ben Smith at Rugby Pass breaks the 4 wins down, not quite as dominant as the hype would suggest.
on the 7th of July 1997 I left Cape Town, 26 degrees, just to arrive in London at 22 Degrees, I know the feeling
Great content, Tim. Thanks👍🏼.
Great show as always 👍 👏
Malcom Marx season is over with a broken leg Pietet-Steph Mostert Kolbe also injured so loads of places up for grabs for the championship
Cape Town weather is much like Manchester right now, should be a fair bit better when you return. Look forward to seeing here
you were so chuffed with that video title hahah nice one
9. Reinach
10. Libbok
11. Colbe
12. Mgomezulu
13. Moodie
14. Arendse
15. Willemse
The ultimate backline of flair, speed and creativity!
Am at 13 and I agree
@@HermanFourie-q4c Moodie might still need to work on his defence in that 13 position...
Agreed. I wanted that backline for portugal
Yes but swap kobus and grant at halftime. I promise you grant and manie will be a deadly combo.
Am!
Thanks Tim great analisis
I think if the boks intend to play like they did in the first test against Ireland, they desperately need to bring in Hacjivah Dayimani. He would do so well in that open style of play
Thanks for the Update Tim! Appreciate. See u soon again in the RSA 👍
I am excited to see André Hugo Venter in green and gold. His father André Venter, was a legend in his time playing alongside Rassie for the Boks and Cheetahs. Must be a special moment for him.
Looking forward to the game. New faces always great to watch.
Our lineouts haven't been fantastic...maybe Grobbelaar can take his changes there.
I really hope everyone can put in good performances...put some pressure on the "first team" guys.
Thanks Tim! Glad you enjoyed SA. You are going to love the Cape and the rest of the places you haven't seen.
We could've had a 3rd Ireland vs South Africa, but instead we get this 😭
at least we can win this one?
@@vanzylkoegelenberg9199too soon bro 😂
World Rugby Has To Make Sure That Everybody Eats
Franco Mostert, Jean Kleyn and Lood De Jager all injured, so Moerat will definitely be there for the Rugby Champs.
Hope Moerat step up
Lucky we are blest with world class rugby players
😂😂😂😂 wow the two contrasting views outside your windows hey 😂😂😂.... well they say Durban on has two seasons, summer and summer...
In fmcg, they call this a bleed in bleed out. It's a happy medium as opposed to an absolute new package and expecting the same product on any given Saturday.
Ya I live in the UK 🇬🇧 from SA and the rugby 🏉 keeps me going existing times for our team lets see how it plays out 🎉
The question we all have is, how long with Tim's tan last? Will it last until his next visit?
Cape Town probably won't help his tan along judging from the current state of affairs over here.
@@mikhailswartz fair point
Rassie announced PSDT is injured so Roos, BJD and Louw can compete for that 7 jersey. Manie can bring down Pollard from that 10 jersey, but i am more interested to see Am trying to take back his 13 jersey.
Kriel has been SO good but it is easy to forget Am was best player in the world for a while!
An is finished no more a good player battle to get place in the shark team
@@EggchasersRugbyindeed, hence I thought you would have spent more time on his return after a year. He was Bok first choice 13 from 2018-2023 . Injuries hurting his progress
@@lungisaadams7081actually if u look at 2018 whem rassie came in it was Kriel...Am was second choice and didnt start in that nz pool game...Am only came in for kriel after he got injured and between 2019-21 kriel had a lot of injuries...now hes back and here to stay
Love to see, Eaton Hooker, Hartzenburg, Wilco Louw, Nohamba, Tyron Green, etc etc in the mix in Future
While some players will be pushing for starting places they are very much being capped with gametime towards the next RWC.
For open play game, Am should be before Kriel. Kriel was used for his defence in the RWC, but Am is a play maker
Jesse has been attacking the gain line rather aggressively too. As good as Am had been before his injury, Kriel is not going to be easy to dislodge from that 13 jersey.
Obviously Moodie is the one I'm patiently waiting for
Henco van Wyk will be the 13 come 2027 his so good
Looking at this team and the bench i would not be surprised if alot of them make 2027 and are starters. Moerat would be captain because he has been captain of every team he has been in since school. Look promising with alot of young guys and good experience.
Very glad to see Lukhanyo Am back
Maybe the future but a Captain must be the best in his position. We have many good locks and that will be interesting. Fly halve, also a few good future prospects. Sascha is brilliant.
Ben-Jason Dixon and Elrigh Louw need to work hard and can earn a spot. Love your videos and podcast. Let us know your plans Cape Town later this year, would be great to meet up. Otherwise, see you at the All Blacks game.
Just an update for you Tim, mostert out for 6 weeks(broken leg), Ptsd out for 6 weeks(unspecified injury), Kolby out for 1st aussie test, further updates to follow
With the no.6 and no.8 jersey, i agree they are up for grabs. Also think both lock starting positions.
I'm a fan of moving Kolisi and Etzbeth onto the bomb squad on occasion to help finish teams off, to also let young players experience grinding away big teams.
Kwagga is competitive more for flank and utility replacement.
Moerat has a lot to prove at test level. I was frustrated they didn't bring him on against Ireland. They needed fresh legs at lock.
Reinach and Williams are likely to take the no 9.
Flyhalf will be determined based on this new style.
No. 12 and no.13 combinations need more tested depth, so imagine some changes in matches during rugby championships.
Fullback is looking very weak without le roux and Willemse. So big opportunity there for someone to step up. We have utility options, but no young specialist getting a real shot till now.
I'm excited for Ruan Venter.
Wan tiera mia, oohh one tiera mia.
Its a bit of, lets see what the jigsaw puzzle puts together against a 3-4th tier nation.
Watching their warm up against nambia 😂 was fun.
Perhaps, the new boks shud aim high and down that worlds highest score by the ABs against nambia as a token of goodwill.
Quite right. Edwill van der Merwe is currently injured.
Pleased you got back safely your program is out of this world
Salman falls into the Gentle giant category 😅😅😅😅. May need a room mate like Eben and Bakis .
You are confusing gentle with useless
Yes, Edwill apparently got injured last weekend playing for the lions. Think they said he’ll be out for 6 weeks.
Moerat has a lot to prove us wrong so hopefully he takes the opportunity with both hands. Libbok needs to show that he can run Browns attach better than Pollard. With Damien injured and Willie old, if Libbok can run the attack and Sacha can start at 15, we might see Pollard shifting to the bench for RC as Sacha can kick.
Evan Roos another one to show what he's worth, while Kwagga was good overall, he isn't an 8.
Andre Esterhuizen needs a better performance after a quiet one against Wales, DDA is 1st choice no doubt but he needs to convince to keep himself in the squad and not allow Rassie to opt to blood any youth there.
Edwill is injured and so is PSDT.
Libbok kicking really improved after the RWC. I expect him to scythe through the AB’s in August
Marvin Orie is twice the player Moerat is and that's really saying something, Rassie's infatuation with him is puzzling especially since we don't lack quality locks in SA.
Most realistically to earn a 23 man shirt in the upcoming Championship is RG, Evan, Mannie, Kurt-Lee and Sacha. Thomas, Makazole, Lukhanyo and maybe Fassi could raise some eyebrows should they have a great game but that's about it. Moerat is touted as the next captain so maybe based on that but he needs to erase questions marks over him with some game this weekend.
My dream starting backline against the All Blacks is 9- Williams, 10 - Libbok, 11 - Kolbe, 12 - Mngomezulu, 13- Am, 14 - Arendse, 15 - Willemse. The intensity will be off the charts.
Not the only person who said to me Sacha at 12. So much pace in that backline! Wonder if you need a physical focal point like DDA or Andre though? Interesting one to watch
I know that Damian is the best 12, but I am adding Sacha as a Goal kicker to take that pressure off from Mannie.
The all gas, no brakes backline. Moodie for Am would just add to the speed because I think Am has lost a step.
I initially had the same concern - that Sacha might lack the physicality to be in the midfield for SA. Then I saw him run at - and then bounce right off - Furlong last weekend and figured he'd probably be fine if he's doing already doing that to props. @@EggchasersRugby
I think the matchup with Portugal is quite smart. Portugal like to play open rugby, perhaps this is a test run to see how Tony Brown's attack works against a lower-intensity opponent
Hhluhluwe!!! You are serious about seeing all of SA 😅
Whoo! Five players from Paarl Boys High in the match-day squad! Salmaan Moerat, Evan Roos, Thomas du Toit, Ruan Venter and Quan Horn.
And with Cameron Hanekom still to come!
Best rugby channel
There is one player that I feel will be the next Danie Gerber, is Henco van Wyk. He's out injured at the moment for the Lions but I haven't in a long time seen a #13 like him. Watch this space.... Definitely, without a doubt, a Bok for the future !!
Generational talent that guy is like o driscoll h
Baie goeie Video! Ja die talent is ongelooflik! Groete uit LIma Peru!
Bok to the future 😂 brilliant 👏
Edwill and other players was released last weekend to get some game time at curry cup level. And he most likely would hve started against Portugal.... bt he got injured within 17 minutes..
A few players have to put up their hands tomorrow. Roos needs to show that he isn't a walking penalty, Kwagga left the door open for him. Am needs to remind us of his class, but Jesse Kriel is on form. Feinberg-Mngomezulu needs to show his skills at 10 and Reinach has a massive opportunity to take Faf's jersey.
Jasper Wiese back in the number 8 jersey for the All Blacks after his suspension. He was already groomed as Duane’s successor at the World Cup.
Cobus Reinach and Manie Libbok started the World Cup QF & SF so that’s a shout for a starting halfback combination in the Rugby Championship, although Far and Handre as well as Grant Williams and Sacha may have something to say.
Thomas du Toit is also one who could get into the 23 as Vincent Koch and Frans Malherbe head into their mid-30’s.
Pity Edwill is injured as would have been great to see him get another run.
I actually feel that maybe Sacha might actually be a future 15 with Mani Lebok at 10. Have them both on the field. Love Mani in attack and if he no longer has pressure to kick... it could be next level
No , I don’t like this. Damian Wilemse is too good to move away from 15. And Sacha is going to be epic at 10! He is a Dan Carter esque Flyhalf. Why play him out of position. Manie is not reliable, he does have some flashes of brilliance BUT Sacha is more complete
@@nevillechapman116 yeah I hear you but if Damian Wilemse is not avaialble perhaps this would be a better option than Handre
@eggchasers rugby , what do you think of Sacha Feinberg Mngomezulu. We need him at 10 for RWC 2027. He should be starting now and get more game time
I love Siya Kolisi, but alas I think the end is nigh for him. As an international first-class player anyway. I don't know if it's motivation, age or his body and mind not being able to peek at the same levels anymore. Which is fine, if its accepted soon. Kwagga is definitely not a starting 8 in the mold of any quality teams international eighth man. He is meant to be a gain line boss and that's not going to happen. Great impact player off the bench.
Experimental. Will see some interesting plays.
Gonna be tricky at the Stormers with SFM and Willemse probably our best bets for 10 and 15 at the Bokke but they have that flexibility and we have Libbok and Gelant at the Stormers as well. On top of that we probably need at least one of those to play in the centers for us. Gelant I suppose could and have played at 13 but its more likely we will see SFM and Willemse rotate the 12 and 23 jerseys or see Willemse in at 15. Good to have that depth though and injury over a long season will probably force Dobbo's hand one way or another.
Glad your safe.
Im most interested in Elrigh Louw and Ruan Venter on the bench. Both 7s, although Elrigh can play 8 as well. No out and out locks on the Bench. Will RG and Salmaan play the full 80? Will Venter come on at 5? Will Elrigh play 8 or 7 off the bench? Or maybe even lock? Dixon has an engine, will he move to 5 with Venter at 7 and Elrigh at 8? Im excited to see how the forwards will be utilised. They're all fantastic players.
Evan Roos and Moerat.
Make sure you come visit the Garden Route on your next visit?
