its just microsofts data capture , nothings free bro theres a cost to everything when dealing with microsoft.
It's all about the analytics at this point. Too bad the alternative office platforms do NOT offer an outlook like replacement.
But you can always use a free email client, if you have Windows 10, you can just use the built-in email client.

Pretty cool! Thanks for sharing! 👍🏻 What's not nice though is that you have to save all files you want to work on onto OneDrive. It does not seem to be possible to work on files which you have stored locally.

I use Open Office. I also have Libra Office installed on my machine (both free) and a properly licenced Office 2007.... though this (whenever I run it {it's not the default}) complains that it's not being patched and I should buy another copy. They want way, way, way too much for what I need from a word processor & spreadsheet (the only 2 apps I really use). I cannot remember the last time I opened any of the others.

There are inherent limitations. I pay for Office 365 (£52 for 12 months off amazon 6 PC license). Outlook is the biggie and none of the free office (or cheap) suites provide an outlook alternative!

That will be good to know for those of us that are still using the old 2010 vers. in witch microsoft said there will be no more support for in nov.
2010 will still continue to work, but it will not be updated in the future, security or bugs fixed (most important ones should be gone by now).

Very interesting but I prefer to work off line whenever possible. A couple of years ago I purchased a copy of Office 2016 on CD from Ebay and it cost me about a tenner. It installed without problems and works fine. Any updates since then would be unimportant to me anyway.
Many companies are going the monthly premium route, Photoshop comes to mind. I used to run Photoshop Elements but when I updated to Win 10 had to abandon it, it just wouldn't install. Cannot afford the monthly charge for the amount I use it. I have tried GIMP but cannot get on with that.

As someone else already wrote the title of the video should be different since it is misleading. Also you should not use the expression full blown interchangeably throughout the vídeo to refer sometimes to the basic Limited online free version and sometimes to the real full blown version which is paid. As an example you start the video (0,45') saying full blown but refering to the limited version - that is simply not correct and very misleading!
This video could otherwise be very helpful showing people how to download and use the basic free version.

only problem is when the internet connection is gone I guess, and that happens sometimes.
But I use Open Office, which is free. but old office will suffice for most too.
I use Open Office and like it, but certain paperwork I need to do for organizations I belong to require the use of Microsoft Excel, now Open Office will handle documents written on the old versions of Excel, but the versions the last 4 or 5 years won't work with Open Office or even the older versions of Excel, you have to have the current version, which sucks big time. The guy that writes the program works in an office where they have the latest Excel and doesn't seem to care that most of the people who have to fill out his form are retired and no longer have access to an office where they can use the new version of Excel. He apparently thinks you should buy it, when Open Office will work for everything I want to do, except that!

This office is already installed in windows 10. But I got to know it yesterday only. LOL. But when i am opening any app from the office it is opening in Microsoft edge and autosave in onedrive is by default selected andi can't even change it to locally save documents. Is there a work around. As i have tried everyhing but the option to disable the autosave is not there in the free version.

@@Britec09 Plenty of people don't have internet - here in Aus grey nomads roam by the hundreds of thousands and plenty of them use spreadsheets and word processors offline. Plenty write emails which park in the outbox until they next get some internet.

Especially with all this privacy disrespect if a person end up on a bad side of someone who control access to anything that person can't be cut off? Or internet, power line going off? In most important project moments? It's free and that's good. But to say who doesn't have internet today is really weird. Even you can end up without internet.
They must have made some changes because I cant open it without being prompted to buy it or activate free trial period.

Why ill always run Windows, for MS Office nothing comes close, especially for work. I do not want to run a mac version or linux emulated version.
I am using ms office 2007 because I like it and because it is mine - I also have 2010 but don’t like it as well as the older one. I also have 2000 student and 2003. Why would I use an on line one. I am considering changing to Ubuntu and will change to libre office if I do. It’s totally compatible with ms office and will open all my ms documents
Honestly, with the existence of free programs like the Google Drive programs and even Libre Office, it feels kind of pointless to continue with Microsoft office if they're just gonna hide their main programs behind a paywall.
I just typed in free office in the search must easyer to find it. If you just type office way to much crap comes up and I could not find it that way. So I went back and just put in free office in the search and it pop right up.

Yeah, fine if you have your files on OneDrive, but you cannot open anything on your local network. If it's there, I don't see it.
But, Sir, my Laptop came preinstalled with Microsoft 365 and when I clicked it states that it is not free. It has a expiry date which was April 22, 2020. So, I am afraid that Microsoft 365 is not free in the truest sense. It has expiry date within a month or so. Please correct me if I am wrong.

@@najebnader1 You can't buy Microsoft Office as a stand alone programme. Moicrosoft got rid of the option a loooooooooooooong time ago when they realised they can just stop you using MS Office after 12 months. FK that. Unless you are Corporate you have zero need for MS Office.

Brian, I can't be the only one with this problem: when I open a word document in this online office, it keeps referring me back to my old installed Microsoft Office 2016 with the trial expired notice. Then I still can't make any changes to the document. I have Windows 10 Home. Do I have to remove the old program? Please advise, thanks.
Remove all traces of old Office installations with SaRA tool, it's a Microsoft free small program.

To be honest... I do not care about " cool new " features in office 365. If you have disks of office 2007-2019 go with that i think you wont miss any of the features in new office + the 365 licence must be renewed monthly or yearly and i do not want to throw money every month to something that is not providing features that is useful for average user. Or ofc use office online...

So, what would you say is the primary difference between installing/purchasing MS Office into your PC and using MS Office thru the online method that basically offers the same availability of programs/functions that would facilitate your need to access MS Office?
I mean, in my view I would very much prefer what you taught us here and use MS Office thru online access rather than pay for something that's expensive but seldom-used, and space consuming on your PC's hard drive when owning/saving a licensed copy of the whole program.

I have an old disk with "Microsoft Essentials" which includes Word '97! It still works fine on a Win 7 Prop O/S. Don't use it though as there are better softwares available and I loathe and detest MS stuff generally!

The only reason one might need Microsoft Office is for the Microsoft file formats, although many non-Microsoft programs are better at supporting those now.
What's the use when u can only work and not able to download the file and share!! high time Microsoft will make the office accessible to the desktops as well!! Really sad, couldn't learn ML and all !!
