I have just got a new PC to replace my old one, and won't let me activate it because it says I have reached the maximum number of activations. It says I need to phone a number and enter it in manually. But it says that there is now no longer any phone number that can phone to manually activate it. . This appears be due to the age and it not being supported any longer, and there doesn't appear to be anyway to contact them.. Seems they want me to subscribe to their 365 subscription. I had the same problem with my older adobe cs3 software where they turned off their activation servers. So even when you buy software you can't use it for as long as you want it seems. Things were a lot easier when computers weren't connected to the internet.
I don't know where you got your prices but I pay about $122 Canadian, including taxes (about $95 U.S.) per year for Office 365. I hate subscriptions but I do find value in this. I use Excel and Outlook Mail Word occasionally, and OneDrive for backup. Forget the rest of the stuff. But that's still ok.
Yes, kind of annoying all these people wanting labour intensive and complicated software for free, like it's owed to them. Plenty of free alternatives to Office for the casual user. It was worse back in the day when all of these office suites tried to make it impossible to import/export a document from another brand. When in doubt create and save as Rich Text Documents for portability.

I'm still using Office XP (2002) as it suits all that I need it for. Part of it I confess is that I loathe the Ribbon interface in current versions of Office. Plus I confess I really miss Frontpage.
Couldn't agree more. Plus, the ever-increasing code bloat in each newer release with no reason. Actually, Office 97 was the last good IMO. 2000 had tuu much buggy behavior and XP had already somewhat screwed UI (While Windows XP was the last Windows to have a proper UI which was pinnacle of Windows). But all further versions were indeed worse and worse. Still like this video though, in case newer Office is needed for some reason. At least no-one should pay for such a crap.
I agree. The older interface is much more customizable. I got used to the ribbon with Excel but one problem with it is that it takes up too much space. Why can't Microsoft create a narrower ribbon as an option? How hard can that be?
If you go to college, Microsoft will allow you to get it for free. I used Word 7 throughout my University years. I found it at a consignment shop for a dollar (registered copy), and used it ever since.
When word of Outlook switching to cloud only came out ( I don't believe it ), I thought it was time to test drive Thunderbird again. There was a learning curve, especially if you want to customize it very much, but the time spent was well worth it. I never switched but I do feel comfortable knowing that it's a very viable alternative to Outlook. And it's free.
Worked like a charm for me. The best version of office. I already own three full copies of it, but this will allow me to put it onone other machine. Thanks a bunch.
If you're a family, I find that a family subscription is the best way to go. It's quite cheap, and good for multiple installs for multiple users. I usually hate subscriptions, but in this case I make an exception.
The reason they discontinued the starter Office is because in 2010, they introduced the free online version of Office in 2011. You get it for free with any kind of Microsoft account (outlook, hotmail, xbox, etc.). The upside is that they update it pretty regularly with all the new features, and there is no download required. The downside is that it's a web app and you have to be connected to the internet to use it (similar to Google Office).
Some antiviruses flag Auto it scripts. Window security used to do it too. It's a pain in the butt because I have tons of scripts I've written with auto it and they just flag it cuz it was written with auto it.

Alternative, you can press: Win + Ctrl + Alt + Shift (Windows 10/11) And get the latest version for free (Microsoft account required, though). Its the online version and also has some limitations, but it's not as older as 2010 Starter.

The video transcript provides a method to get Word and Excel for free, specifically referring to Microsoft Office 2010 Starter, which was an ad-supported version of Word and Excel that Microsoft offered for free. This version had some limitations compared to the full versions of Office. The method involves downloading an AutoIt script to obtain the Office 2010 Starter installer and related files, running the installer, and then applying an update to enable the applications to run. The transcript also mentions some warnings, such as the fact that Office 2010 and its Starter edition are no longer supported by Microsoft and may pose security risks. It suggests considering open-source alternatives like LibreOffice or OpenOffice if security is a concern.

I am using Office 2000 on my Windows 11 computer, as it's the only MS Office that we ever purchased. Lol. And yes, Office 2000 works on Windows 11 without any issues.
The supposed Microsoft installation files are being downloaded over http and if one changes urls to https it then throws an invalid certificate error, so if one would download those files, especially through a VPN, there's a real chance of a Man-in-the-Middle attack, so the files can be swapped "mid-air" for some infected versions. If a good AV scanner flags those files while/after download be warned that they can actually be malicious.
Here's a question for you. I have Office 97 CD, and thumb drive backup. All is good, except being 75, I'd like to add speech to text, text to speech. Seeing I own this one, it's not worth the upgrade $$$. Do you know of any apps that will work with Office 97, with win 10?
I have to admit I used to use Office a lot when I was at University, but they gave me a free licence whilst I was a student. But that licence doesn't work anymore :( I don't need office as much anymore and tbh I hate the extra processes it adds to my machine so I just mainly use an outlook account just to use word and excel that way if I do need them.
20 dollars a month? 240 a year? Who are you paying? Office 365 costs me 140 Aussie pesos a year for the family pack, shared to three extra family member accounts, and the Office apps are only part of the deal. A cheeky 1TB OneDrive and the no-ads Outlook mail account aren't nothing. 9 bucks a month US if you pay annually, less if you only want to licence one person.
So is downloading and installing the full Office LTSC Professional Plus 2021 from the Microsoft website with free activation being a little bit naughty?
About the filename, "...2olew" OLE was the name of a core technology (I think they changed it a few times since), and W might refer to the -A and -W variations of the Windows APIs.
I have tried both 1E and 1F. Both give a message that the version # has changed and asks if I want to locate it and download. Then it says could not find a recent version and exits the install. Thanks

I had the same problem with my older adobe cs3 software where they turned off their activation servers. So even when you buy software you can't use it for as long as you want it seems. Things were a lot easier when computers weren't connected to the internet.
Thx for the Script info! Downloaded and have running on two laptops. Your info and instructions were spot on. Worked perfectly, Thx again.👍
You used to be able to buy license off ebay for about £3.50 at one time. But that was back in 2018ish.
hi,been watching you're videos for a while now and they are amazing/informative and really well explained..i have subscribed and will trawl through the others to see how i can give the middle finger to the suits :-) 😂😂😂😂😎😎
Frontpage created websites that were only suited for Internet Explorer.
Excellent info.
So helpful! Thanks!
Most users want outlook which starter nor student had. The Others can be replaced by Google Docs or Libre Office. But there's no outlook replacement.
Search “alternativeto” i vastly prefer thunderbird.
Thunderbird
@@SuperNoticer Been using thunderbird for many years.

Thanks a bunch.
when I go to download it, I get this message "Could not find recent version of Office 2010 Starter (en-us). Program will be exited.
Check out the pinned comment.
Keep going, you're awesome 👍
is it only for 32bit ? my system is 64bit and its not working on it.
same problem !!!
The same for me. Have you resolved this issue?
Same challenge
Yes,it just says my computer is 64 bit and it won't instal. I guess my luck ! Good video though.
If you're a family, I find that a family subscription is the best way to go. It's quite cheap, and good for multiple installs for multiple users. I usually hate subscriptions, but in this case I make an exception.
Neither zip files work states that the files for Office 2010 can't be found.

this msg is to confirm that it worked for me - thanx a lot man . u r just great - also thanx to Microsoft
its all ready been changed. i just tried and it said that version number is could not be found

got new suscriber from Rwanda it worked thank you 👌
Please keep in mind that these Office 2010 starter versions of Word and Excel do NOT support macros or VBA modules.
Norton Antivirus is a pain with this download. Flags and removes it for not being popular enough.
Some antiviruses flag Auto it scripts. Window security used to do it too. It's a pain in the butt because I have tons of scripts I've written with auto it and they just flag it cuz it was written with auto it.
thanks so much for the tutorial. Worked like a champ. Been looking for years for a free version of Word and Excel. Seems to work just fine on my new HP windows 11 computer.
I have them but I never use them. I use Open Office instead.
@CyberCPU Totally off topic but what is your desk setup? Are they just a pair of tables? I'm looking for a new desk exactly like what you are using
They are adjustable work benches from Home Depot.
I'm in a bit of a bind. I tried setting up a dual boot with Linux, ran into partitioning issues, and now I'm stuck with "bad image error.exe" messages and file corruption problems. I've tried SFC scan, system restore, and reinstalling Windows, but nothing's worked. Any chance you could help me out with this?@@CyberCPU
Alternative, you can press: Win + Ctrl + Alt + Shift (Windows 10/11)
And get the latest version for free (Microsoft account required, though).
Its the online version and also has some limitations, but it's not as older as 2010 Starter.
Hey man! Had to leave a comment here, and let you know I'm loving watching your content! Good quality, educational, and very helpful! Hoping I'll someday reach the level of success that you have :)
It's telling me that it's a 32bit and can't install on a 64bit??
If you already have office installed in 64-bit you can't have a 32-bit office installed as well. If you're installing it by itself it works fine.
👍
If you google word portable or excel portable youll find multiple sources for versions that do not require installation.
I have Office 2010 installed on my laptop and Libre on my desktop. Looks like it might be better just to stay with Office 2010. I am running Windows 11 on both machines.
What is better to use Office 2010 or Libre Office? I noticed that I don't have any thumbnail views with Libre Office.
I just use Office 2010 because its lighter and faster than LibreOffice(i have a potato laptop), probably LO has some new features like newer Office versions, but i never use it anyways.
Office 2010 works perfectly on Windows 11. It's better and less buggy than subsequent versions.
Still works! Thank you !!! 🙏🏼
It doesn't have powerpoint, without it is useless for students
then buy it i guess homie, life isnt free
@@decimus81 Yes, is why i use my hard earned money on something important, like food.
have you tried impress. I believe it does about the same as power point but remember it is free.
@@Raylightsenthere is a way that works with the entire MS office suite. I'm not allowed to tell you because it's uh... Not buying it. But reddit is your friend!

It didn't work initially. But after uninstalling Microsoft 365 in Control Panel / Programs. It worked
Worked for me just now.
Update on what works?
Thanks a million man worked perfectly! But has all features of recently office?
theirs a easiest way to install MS Office mate, all you need to do is install Office Deployment tool then, use the powershell to install using the command.
@@dipdewdee8322Can you share the process please?

Very helpful video.
Thanks so much for sharing.
I just subscribed to your channel.
As I recall Office 2010 needed the compatibility pack installed to work with modern office docs.
No, that was office 2003.
@@CyberCPU Oh gee, you're right.
confirm it's 2003
2007 is already fully compatible
and with packs 2003 also is, best version btw
@@charginginprogresssoffice 2003 is really buggy in Windows 10 and 11. I still think 2007 is the best version of office. It still works great in Windows 10 and 11.
Awesome video! Awesome help! You're the man! You've got my subscription!
Summary: The video explains how to download an old Word and Excel version from 2010, so it's a very old version.
Can confirm! THIS WORKS! Word is back baby!!!
2010 is the best version of Office. Same interface for all the apps and easy to use. Still usign now after I try for month the 2019 and 2021. They are too slow and "laggy" on the same pc and the menu are more more complicated to use for some basic function. I don't know why Office since 2013 has gotten increasingly worse...
Absolutely agree, like yourself I still use 2010 and newer versions too slow and needlessly complex.
Thank you for this information. I have Office 2010 and have been worried that it is too old and been considering changing to Libre instead.
@@raquelbigby5501 no don't worry. Even they don't support more the suite, if you install the software from 0 there are still all the updates available on Windows Update....
@@robertmcdougall3166 and I think 2010 has the best graphics. Simply but beauty, no metro style or too Ribbon as Office 2007...
You are correct. I use 2010 on my machines and 365 on company machines. 2010 is better and... it doesn't keep changing. Works great on Windows 11.
2010 is forward compatible, but some 365 features are not backward compatible. If I had to use those features, I'd buy 2021 instead of 365.

Sorry accidentally sent my message before I finished it. You are a breath of fresh air of information. Enjoy just watching your videos very much. I don't understand much about the computing world. I've been able to use some of your basic set up tips already. You've become my computer guy.
Thanks so much 😂. Although it's an old version, but it still works great unless you need other advance features.
Good video, Thanks. Next question is how do I hide the drive letter ?
Thank you so much. I had to uninstall Office 365 trial and then it worked.
I am using Office 2000 on my Windows 11 computer, as it's the only MS Office that we ever purchased. Lol.
And yes, Office 2000 works on Windows 11 without any issues.
Glad to know its free and not pirated. Thanks 👍🏿
It still working properly, thankyou so much.
Thank you, exactly what I need for light word docs at home 😊
Great video, Ive only recently found your channel so Im a new subscriber. Is there a way of getting Outlook for free as well?
Thanks a lot brother . It works pefectly
I have to admit I used to use Office a lot when I was at University, but they gave me a free licence whilst I was a student. But that licence doesn't work anymore :(
I don't need office as much anymore and tbh I hate the extra processes it adds to my machine so I just mainly use an outlook account just to use word and excel that way if I do need them.
I still run the free MS Windows 10 on my 2015 Lenovo, and on it MS Office 2003 and without any updates it still functions ok
Can you please send me a copy file?
20 dollars a month? 240 a year? Who are you paying? Office 365 costs me 140 Aussie pesos a year for the family pack, shared to three extra family member accounts, and the Office apps are only part of the deal. A cheeky 1TB OneDrive and the no-ads Outlook mail account aren't nothing. 9 bucks a month US if you pay annually, less if you only want to licence one person.
So is downloading and installing the full Office LTSC Professional Plus 2021 from the Microsoft website with free activation being a little bit naughty?
Your info worked very well. Tnku too much sir.
Thanks
Worked lika sharm still! Thanks!
