    GUSSET DECREASES:
    Watch the video to see exactly how to pick up the stitches.
    Once you’ve accomplished the pick up, you’ll just want to carry on knitting the following two row sequence, working paired decreases until you’ve returned to your original cast on stitch count.
    ROW 1: DECREASE ROW
    Beginning at the back of the heel, knit until you have 3 stitches remaining on the needle. K2tog, K1.
    Knit across the instep stitches
    At the beginning of the next needle (the other side of the heel flap) K1, SSK. Knit to the end of the round.
    ROW 2: PLAIN ROW
    Knit the entire round.
    Repeat these 2 rounds until you have decreased enough stitches to return to your original number of cast on stitches, or the number that you need to fit the ball of your foot.
    Continue knitting until you reach the desired length of the foot.
    Yarn I'm using:
    Plymouth Happy Feet: www.ravelry.co...
    Needles I'm using:
    Chaiogoo 32" circular needle 2.25mm (US 1)

    I'm working a different sock pattern and became confused at the heel and gusset point. Came to YT and found these two videos. Discussing the anatomy of each section was great. This helped so much, thank you!

      That is exactly the reason I’m here. I followed my pattern exactly, and the whole heel looks lopsided. I need some explanation about how the heel is constructed, and why to use different techniques depending on the look you are after.

    I learned to knit socks, two at a time, toe up using magic loop. It’s the only way I have ever knit socks, until now. I decided it was time to try top down sock knitting. To complicate matters, I decided to use the Addi Flexi-flip needles..... I cannot thank you enough for your videos. They have been of immense help. I’m just finishing the gusset decreases so it’s clear sailing from here... thank you again.

    • @PurlTogether
      @PurlTogether  ปีที่แล้ว

      When you SSK, you're turning the stitches as you slip as if to knit. If you just knit them through the back loop, they're still oriented the same way they were on the needle. The SSK tends to lay more flat.
      This video may help with magic loop

    • @PurlTogether
      @PurlTogether  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never sat down next to a left-handed knitter, so I'm unsure of the differences. However, you'll want the decreases to lean toward the toe, away from the leg of the sock.

  • @instant_mint
    @instant_mint ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a problem and I can't figure out why it occurs! I followed this tutorial as carefully as I could and I think I did it exactly as shown? But after the gusset decreases I no longer have an even number of stitches/loops on my needles!
    This happened to both my socks that I am knitting on separate needles. So now when I'm at the kitchener stitch point in the process, I have one needle with 11 loops, and one with 10. On both socks... I'll have to find some way to cheat and make it work, but I'd like to get it right next time I knit a pair of socks so I really want to figure out why this happens. Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this?

    The heel turn and gusset are my nemeses. I attempted to keep in pattern on the heel turn, but one side is a little more bumpy than the other one. I had the correct number of stitches to begin with, but something weird happened as I began to decrease on one side...so frustrating. As for the sl 1, k1 reinforcement...how far did you continue the pattern after the heel turn and decreases? Did you continue to the toe? I couldn't tell from the video. Thanks

      Have you had the chance to watch the Step 4 video about knitting the heel flap? We knit into the back loop of the last stitch on the row, so it turns the stitch outward. Doing this, plus slipping the first stitch of the row, creates a nice edge to pick up later.

    This is NOT suitable for a beginner....maybe for an advanced knitter.
    Way too fast, mumbled, unclear - especially when correcting a verbal mistake; I'm like "huh?"
    Also: for a DEMO have larger materials- thick yarn and big needles.
    The longer I'm watching this fiddly, fast work the more irritating I find it.
