Empress Dowager Cixi was so controlling that she destroyed her own household.

It’s a pity that Cixi was all blamed for everything that is considered bad and she can never have a say. From the fall of Qing dynasty and any death was the fault of Cixi. China went to war with all the powerful countries in Europe ( Germany, Russia, France, Britain) and the most modern army of n Asia- Japan and of course USA, every body wants a piece of China. Also the majority Chinese Han were revolting besides from the natural disasters like famines and floods. The Qing dynasty under Cixi went to war against Japan in the first sino - Japanese war and lost, also fought the British in the first and second opium war and lost, all these are happening while the Han were also overthrowing their Manchu rulers. All these were managed by Cixi while everyone was planning to be the next ruler or emperor of China. Cixi could have been poisoned too by her enemies?Still Cixi managed to make China still intact. Cixi was never portrayed as a hero and was demonise by the west and enemies. As the saying goes: “ the victors rewrites the history “.

It is probably because she's a woman that they increased their blame but even though she greatly contributed to the demise of her dynasty.
She held a tight grip on the government, refused to appoint a wise adult who could save the empire instead promoted children in order to further expand her authority, emperor Guangxu was chosen mainly for the fact that he was her nephew and so she could still maintain power within her Yehe Nala clan. Even Prince Gong who was her greatest ally had a huge fallout with her and Empress Dowager Ci'an because he tried to reform the weakening government and that would decrease their power and interest.
She didn't care for the common people the country had suffered diseases, famine and corruption yet she adorned herself with jade and pearls, even the socks she wore were never used twice. When she had a meal a 100 dishes were served, her dog pet had it's own special diet and even a special carriage to travel when the weather got hot. so meticulous and luxurious in her living why wouldn't citizens rebel? And yes exactly the European colonizers will not miss the chance to get some of China's goods and land for themselves too, burdening the empire and it's people even more.
I'm not Chinese but for the Han Chinese to have a royal family and nobles not of their ethnicity fighting among themselves for power, faking grandiose showoff of their feeble and impotent dynasty while disregarding the people's crisis I'd want to resist and end it too.
