I have been a huge fan since the 70's, and saw her again in concert a few years ago! She still has it, and is one of the All-Time great vocalists. I love you Chaka!!!
What Chaka gets at here is that she belives in 'the band' She's not just about herself, I think its her ability to 'lock in' with the other musicians that elevates her above other singers. Damn, I'd really love to play with her. What a class act...
Gladys Bowen maybe u can answer this. Sweet thang was written for a guy Chaka eventually married, Richard Halland. When u google richard halland/ Chaka it shows a totally different older Richard halland than the one she married in 1976. Look at a picture of Chaka and Richard in 1978 and look at the one google is claiming to be her ex husband although older now, he not the same!!!!
We can leave Beyoncé out because you can’t compare a newbie to a LEGEND! Much less Chaka is a live performer singer whose voice can hold it’s own in a live concert, with a band, or in a studio!👈🏿😲. Leave Beyoncé out of the picture! She is no match!
But here's the thing why do you idiots always attack somebody else why does it have to be a competition why is it their room for everyone who's talented to make a great living OK beyonce is beyonce and beyonce stays in hawai but you won't want to pit 2 women against each other because your idiots
What a powerful and true interview. Every single word I agree with and she by far is one of my favorite singers in the world period. I love Chaka Khan.
This was so overwhelming for me...Chaka, Michael, Prince, Stevie, Earth, Wind & Fire...basically saved my life! Yes I'AM VERY GRATEFUL, SHE WAS IN MY LIFE♡ Thank you for sharing her story with us, it was the TRUTH, from Ms. Chaka Khan herself.....tears falling from my eyes, because she has given SO MUCH OF HERSELF TO BRING US JOY...She didn't have to, SHE ENJOYED, AND WANTED TOO♡ LOVE YOU CHAKA! May OUR HEAVENLY FATHER CONTINUE WATCHING OVER YOU AND US ALL IN CHRIST JESUS NAME AMEN! PEACE AND ALWAYS LOVE YALL♡
On a technical level Chaka attacts her notes like a trumpet player. She is my all time favorite singer, and is equally comfortable singing rock, jazz and rhythm and blues. She is unafraid to spontaneously take on any style of music and will be remembered for future generations probably like we remember Billie Holiday. She is truly a Diva!
I'm a jazz flavored Chaka fan! She's the first of her kind, along the vein of early Rickie Lee Jones and later ill-fated Amy Winehouse... Chaka owns "The End Of A Love Affair"... I don't think of anybody else doing that song... The band Rufus, and "Do You Love What You Feel" made us so happy back in the day. She's like Sade that way, she always been a proud ensemble piece in a band, who happen to be the main focal point because she's so unique and talented...
Chaka is so full of sound and music it almost makes her a lil quirky. I love it. I didn't fully fall for her too I seen her perform. I loved her music but when I saw her and that smile and her eyes plus the voice.... She's beautiful. you can almost hear a horn in a speaking voice. A true siren of our time.
To be quite honest I can only hear or put to mind Jill Scott, Eryka Badu and the late great Whitney Houston come to mind who's musical talent puts me in the mind of Ms. Chaka Khan... ...Her spirit, demeanor, personality, and mannerisms put me in the mind if Tina Turner...
There is absolutely no other singer on this planet that can touch this song Angel.....i have every album she's ever made with and without Rufus. I simply idolized her! I wish this doc here could have touched on her jazz vocalist. Her voice blends in like her own instrument. She sang jazz effortlessly! Love this women!
The younger generation should not hate or ego trip. These greats like Chaka are called"divas" and "legends " for a reason....! I respect the younger people that pay homage... and "get into "the music...and that are curious and awestruck enough to see what all the fuss was about! Those are the young people who will be able to say (even though Chaka and other greats were before their time)...twenty,thirty,FORTY years from now...that they know who Chaka Kahn was and they know her music. Those curious and respectful younger people are our hope....they will be the ones to carry the torch and the legacy....so future generations will have even a flicker of hope of knowing what good quality music sounds like.!
Tasneem Basit thanks for saying this. I've actually been on a musical trip in the last few weeks. It all started with Bruno mars 24k magic because he had all these elements from funk and hiphop in his music so I went back and got into funk music. Then disco, 60s 70s and mainly the biographies of musical artist and saving songs to a playlist and building a better range of musical taste. I'm an 80s child but the music nowadays is like fast food and I used to like it but a lot of the music doesn't have enough substance. I'm looking into real musicianship and the context of those times and really feeling connected to music of those times.... thought I'd share...
Gotta be honest with you this generation does not have that something special with their voices! These young kids think that they are doing something special when they do the riffs and runs. They think that's souls singing. As we hear with Chaka she doesn't do a whole lot of riffs and runs she is a natural singer with a natural gift. She is not manufactured like these young girls and boys. Amy Winehouse had the natural voice. She also was a jazz singer who had a special gift.
Elizabeth Mendez stop hating on the younger generation damn none of the great singers of the older generation hate on them they actually enjoy the talented ones jeez you ppl get on my nerves with the negative shit
Tasneem Basit there's good Quality music in every generation and as stuff is being remade younger generations look up who did it first Chaka isn't the only or last great singer
I met Chaka in 2000 and got star struck. My throat started to choke and never said what I was thinking. " Chaka I love you, you have the greatest voice of all time. Can I background sing for you some time? That's MYDREAM"🔥😍
This woman in my eyes is the Queen of all Queens young and old, and there are a lot of Queens that I love and rate - Chaka Khan is number ONE. Respect and prayers to Aretha Franklin who is gravely I’ll as I write this, keep fighting Queen of Soul 🙏🏾
I remember seeing her in concert back around 2001,when I lived in Atlantic City...she blew the roof off at the Taj Mahal!!!A.C.was still jumping back then!!!Sadly, with the closing of a lot of casinos business in general has dwindled and I've since moved away but I have no regrets,I had a great 20 something year run!!!😂🤗😎🎤🎼🎙🍒🍓🥒🥜🌋🏖🏚🎆🎊
I’ve loved this beautiful and gifted artist since I first saw her, on TV, back in 1976. One of my five leading ladies of soul music: Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Patti LaBelle and Roberta Flack.
I'm so glad she decided to keep singing. What a terrible loss that would have been to the world had she done something else. Sounds like the guys in roofs were very classy dudes always looking out for her!
YOU WERE BORN TO BLOW. I FIRST SAW YOU ON SOUL TRAIN. GOD BLESS YOU, DON'T EVER STOP SINGING. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL INSPIRING, YOU WILL GO FAR WITH THAT VOICE. STOP ON BY, SWEET THANG, STAY, AND WHATCHA GONNA DO FOR ME. MY FAVORITES. LOVE THE HAIR.
I remember buying her Love is Alive album tape I Feel for you This is My Night i played that tape out with my little money Eye To Eye and Stronger Than Before Through the Fire ❤❤❤❤❤
Chaka Khan is by far the best female vocals ever. She has always been my favorite female vocals. What sets her apart from every other female vocalists such as Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner, and I love those artists, but because of how she could and would get so down right funky with her music. Too me..unlike the other female vocalists, she reach the men. Even the men in every ghetto or project had to buy a Rufus featuring Chaka Khan album. In the 70s, it was cool for the fellas to be riding around the hood jamming their albums loud. I don't think I could say that about any other female vocalists....in those days I was so in love her. I'm so proud of her for remaining irrelevant after all these years. THANK YOU CHAKA!!!!
Chaka was the 1st artist I went to see by myself. Masonic Temple, Detroit, 4 inches of snow, caught a cab after work. She worked that stage. I put her pic on my fridge and she inspired me to get to her size and shape. We were the same ht and build. I walked 5 miles a day, lived on salad and yogurt. Her voice and songs got me through one of my worst breakups. She will always be # 1 in my book. Thank you Sweet Thing.
It’s amazing that she dings like she does, considering that raspy sort of way she speaks. I’m so fascinated by this. She’s so well able to belt them high notes! From her diaphragm! Absolutely phenomenal.
I remember hearing her songs when she first put em out there, on the radio all the time and seeing her on Soul Train, and also live a couple of times. I'm from the Southside too. She was something else. Unlike today's bullshit.
I grew up with Chaka, she's an Aries like Aretha (and me) and I'm concerned no one is able to get through to her about caring for herself better. Chaka... Ain't Nobody gonna say anything about your health because all they seem to care about is your voice. Please go Vegan for at least a year and get your banging body back! LOVE YOU!!!
Her music is a lil before my time. But I'm thankful I was blessed to know what talent and beauty is. Have always had an attractions to her sound, look, and energy.

Love her when she said "God gave me this voice"! Amen lady! She is so pretty&smart! That beautiful smile takes your breath away! 😁
Norm Abram
And God gave her a great booty as well. Nothing like a big, beautiful black booty!
Ms. Clyde's Winfield. I always thought she had a breathtakingly beautiful smile as well. Blessings to you Ms.
Winfield.
I love her smile
The sound track of my life wouldn't be the same without Chaka Khan..powerful Influence on my life even now
Love to see her in concert now. Hope she tours.
Prince had a lot of love and respect for Chaka. He would often give her a shoutout during one of his concerts.
sweet thing was my favorite..I used to try to sing it all the time in 70's! Lord knows God gave that woman an awesome voice..she still got it too!

The "you are my heat you are my fire" part - heaven!
4real 4real no other like Chaka. Amen
It's my all time favourite Chaka Khan song. I have been singing this to my son since birth and now he sings it back. Love is great!!!
Chaka's voice touches the soul when she sings her voice is truly a gift from God absolutely amazing.

She was in my music class - she became famous and i became an unknown jazz guitarist !
If you want fame, it will cost you your soul! End of story.
d. veritas God saves the list when they truly repent. So apparently her soul is intact as she believes.
