    Have you experienced mom shaming?
In this parenting video we explore judgement around how we parent our kids, from discipline to feeding to bedtimes and more.
With so much pressure to be a perfect parent, mom shaming is real yet parenting mistakes are normal. We feel judged by our family, friends, and even complete strangers...and chances are we've done some judging ourselves. Here we explore why judging is such a common part of parenthood, and what we can do about it.
We've ALL experienced judgement in parenting. Yes, parent shaming, it’s so real. We feel judged... and chances are we’ve done some judging of other parents ourselves. A lot of researchers have studied this, and their results consistently show that the vast majority of parents feel judged, many saying they feel judged all the time - by their own parents or in-laws, friends, acquaintances, even complete strangers.
And the top three things parents feel judged about probably won’t surprise you: Discipline, nutrition and sleep. You’re not disciplining your kids enough, or you’re too strict. The food you’re feeding them isn’t healthy enough, or it’s too healthy. You’re too rigid about nap schedules, or you’re way too lax about bedtime. So why all this judgement? Bring your focus back to your relationship with your child.
Whatever it is you feel judged about, think back to why you decided to take that approach in the first place. Remind yourself that you’re doing the best you can for your child. And listen, sometimes someone else might call you out on something that makes sense - in those moments, remember that it’s ok and normal to make mistakes.
Parenting is not about being perfect, it’s about learning, growing, and trying again. And if you find that you’re the one doing the judging, think about everything I just said in reverse - other parents have their own reasons for making the choices they make, and you will probably never fully understand the unique dynamics of their relationship with their child. In the end, offering ourselves and other parents grace instead of shame.
