I served in the US army 74-81 active duty, stationed in Germany 76-78. I was stationed in Aschaffenburg in Bavaria . In December, 1975 my scout platoon was sent to Berlin for a course in Combat in Cities. We toured East Berlin for about half a day, what I saw there tells me that the young man made the right decision. It wasn’t a nice place to be. Many rules and we were watched closely by plain cloth men. No matter where we went on our tour the same men were there, they were not a part of our group and never spoke to us, just watched. Danka nein. (No thanks.)
He escaped from a POW camp in September 1945. I have bad news for him. VE day was in May 1945. Maybe he liked the food in the camp. If the rest of the video is as strange as this, there is no need to continue.
What are you alleging? That by September of 45, all pow's were already returned? What's so illogical about him escaping when he did according to the authors account? Please elaborate if possible. Thank you.
POWs were not simply released at the end of the war. Most German POWs in the US were kept here for a bit, still under guard, then shipped to the UK or France for 2-3 years of labor.
The author escaped being repatriated to his hometown in East Germany and the Russians. I’ve read accounts of German POWs at the end of the war who the Americans were obliged to send to East Germany hanged themselves rather than go into Russian captivity.
You evidently missed the part where the author found out that he was to be repatriated to his hometown in EAST Germany where he knew he’d be imprisoned by the Russians. A fate worse than death. I’ve read a story where German POWs hanged themselves upon learning that they were to be sent to the Russians.
I’ve listened to many of these books that have gone through some text to speech program aka AI. Pronunciation has improved dramatically, but AI is still lacking a lot of “I”!
Good book!

The POW's were not watching a movie at 0900. Perhaps 2100. This sounds like a mistake some civilian made. 0900 = 9am. 2100 = 9pm.
@@Padoinkyor possibly a use of non-military time for a primarily non-military audience.
The picture is showing fully armed soldiers. I’m assuming it’s not of USA.

The narrator can't pronounce certain words. I think it's an AI created voice.
obviously. there have been a number of channels like this one for a few years now.
It is all ai
