If memory serves me correctly, the North African German POWs were literally shipped over the USofA, to be interned into POW camps in various backwater POW camps which became their new home until Germany surrendered and they were subjected repatriated

Amazed that the planners didn’t think about the fact that the on-shore fire control rptg troops might not get to do their job and thus they’d need a plan-b in order to insure they could actually support the landings w/ offshore assets

That guy second from the left is a dead ringer for Dick Peabody the actor that played "LittleJohn" in the show Combat!

Very poor assessment of what the US military knew about Metz. You see, Patton was World War One Vet, wounded in action under Pershing leading Americas First Tanks in World War one. He was, at one point entertaining taking a commission in the French Cavalry because of US cutbacks. He knew what was at Metz. He'd personally studied it and his G32 Col Koch was highly informed. One wonders what other "gems" are missed in this assessment?

I was in the Air Force in the early 2000s. The food was the best part. I gained 20 lbs in boot camp.

My grandfather fought in Patton's 3rd Armored 3rd Army. We went to Camp Roberts and learned he drove a jeep with an an artillery piece welded on and went panzer hunting. He told us solemnly they didnt take prisoners. He definitely advised all of us not to join the ARMY for military service. He hated it.

German Dud Shells: Probably there's a reasonably good chance that this is due to having Forced Labor, and sometimes even Slave Labor, making your Ammunition and Munitions! After WW2, Israel bought a bunch of German War Surplus for it's Defense and found out that the Forced & Slave Labors had installed the sights out of alignment!!!

My (Paternal) uncles described with pride how, on the 8th of December, 1941, in a small city (in a coal mining area, which meant that they had a good chance of getting a difference). That when two of them walked down to "The Board" at 7am the line already was around the block, and down the next one and a half blocks!

I never considered the value of a hot meal for morale.
