    That first strum is literally the thing that pulls me in. It sounds melancholy, and the song actually is in large part. RIP Prince.

    That's top shelf stuff there! This is the first lesson I've seen where the all chord phrasing's are dead on.

    Sometimes there no proper lesson for classic songs even though the guitar is really interesting. This was one I couldn't find a satisfactory lesson for. You've nailed it again Adrian. Thanks.

    Hey Adrian, real nice job on the song. You are certainly correct, everyone is doing a lesson of this on TH-cam but no one has even done a bit of instruction on the solo portion. Glad to see you teach some of the solo, that's the part I'm trying to learn now and what you showed has helped quite a bit, thanks!

    If I didn't know better I would have sworn his royal badness broke out that guitar solo at the end! Great work brother, you never fail to amaze me with your ability to really capture the essence of so many greats. I'm fairly advanced but I always love checking out your solo ideas etc. Keep up the great work. I feel like were are brothers from across the "pond" as we were raised on all the same guitarist. Whenever someone asks me who taught me to play I respond "Jimi Hendrix" without skipping beat.

    Ive been playing for 35 plus years and i can NOT play these massive strech chords... my hand just wont do it and cant. Ive tried for years and yaers bc of this song alone! Especially the 1st fret, the 2nd chord, the F 9.. if i come very close i fail on bridging the entire chord lol.... so i have to settle for the bar chord compromise. O well, ya cant do it all i guess. Ill keep trying until im dead bc this peace of music is just so beautiful, so iconic, like eric Clapton's wounderful tonight the very second you hear it you know who it is immediately. Id give anything.. ANYTHING to be able to play this properly bc its so so beautiful to my ears, sad i am! Anywyas.. this song i must admit is one of my all time favorites and its just great! You play it so very good sir! Love them brit musicians, they seem to have a level of talent and music education and are just at a higher level than most us Americans n i dont know if thats bc they have more music classes in their schools public than America or what, but most us Americans are just shown by a friend a chord or 2 n we teach our selves from there on out but anyways thats just my personal opinion... all i do know for sure them brits are fkin great musicians!, i admire that greatly about them! 👍

    • @auchlowtrus9300

      It helps to play on a shorter scale guitar as he is (a Jaguar) which is 24" instead of the 24.75" of a Les or 25.5" of a Strat/Tele... a Mustang would be a walk in the park at 22.5"

    • @richard21995
      @richard21995 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Surely the spacing between frets could not be any less distance on whatever guitar you use ?

    • @auchlowtrus9300
      @auchlowtrus9300 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, if you think of a bass like a large guitar the larger fret spacings would be more obvious to see when compared with guitar (basses usually have scales in the 30"+ range).

    Brilliant ... great lesson and performance. Your solo sound reminds me of bill nelson of the great Yorkshire band be bop deluxe (you are too young to have seen them) but i do recommend a look at bill nelson‘ s guitar playing, especially the ‘modern music’ album and ‘live in the air age’. Like the music of jimi Hendrix, some bits are better than others!

    And put thumb over 2nd fret instead of 3rd for 2nd chord :)

    • @ExtremelyOnlineGuy
      @ExtremelyOnlineGuy 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      for Bambi the guitar riff (at least the version he did for undertaker) is d eb e then slide to e in 1st pos then that little lick is 10 to 12 hammer on on the g 2x with a bend up back down pull off then hit the 12 d. sorry I suck at tabbing.

    Great lesson. I’ve watched the official video for Purple Rain and a video of Wendy Melvoin showing her pedal board where she does the intro. Watching her fingers, I can see she plays just the bottom three strings for the F add 9. However, playing along to the record, I can hear that A on the 4th string. It’s a puzzle. Could there be a second guitar on the original recording?

    Hey Adrian, I love your lessons and how you structure them and I already subbed. The problem with some teachers on youtube is that they only show you the fingering and they don't explain the rhythm/beat nor where the notes come from (of what scale and etc). But your videos are fine.
    I have a question about the last chord, Ebadd9. It's too far of a stretch for me to land it fluidly coming off the previous chord. Is there an easier substitution that would suffice? For example, can i play a Eb major chord instead?

    • @acpg
      @acpg  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Glad you're liking the lessons Simon. Yes, some massive stretches in this so feel free to substitute. I'd go for Eb major or Ebsus2 would work well - X68866
