The color tweaks are nice, but the much bigger thing for me was a way to set the parallax barrier offset to more precise values. I honestly thought "Super-Stable 3D" was anything but, but setting the offset to 4.5 (instead of either 4 or 5 in Nitendo's Settings menu) actually made it work flawlessly for me. No flicker or image overlap when shifting my 3DS around
Just tried it on my old smoll 3DS with both TN screens and it's seems really to improve color accuracy. For examle - ground texture in the first level of Shovel Knight now looks more brown and... Less yellowish/greenish? In conclusion - colors became more like on calibrated IPS screens (really looks simmilar to my QHD 165hz Fast IPS PC Screen when comparing same pictures on 3DS and PC) so I'll keep it turned on always. Really great find!!
I'm using the rosalina version that comes with the extra "secret" brightness, same as when you plug on AC and you have a 1+ brightness level, that rosalina menu version makes it more brighter for people used to play on the switch oled and want the extra brightness, its not harmful since its the same brightness as the charger plugged, drains the battery a bit faster, and you can also make the filters to look more contrast (not ready to go like the video, but you can tweak on your own). Just reset when you turn off the 3ds or close the screen, so you need to go back to rosalina and reactivate the brightness and filter colors
The black values are probably curved to be lower since you have in general extra range down there on an IP before it can starts to get crushed. With that said, maybe not the best thing to do use while you're outside now? I can imagine it being hard to see anything while the sun fights you.
Wait really?? This is huge really! The system’s mix and match of TN and IPS screens always bug me as a person that bought multiple systems since they had multiple variants models and special editions and from my experiences the NA systems I have always had a warmer color palette, almost looking a little washed out, while two of my Japanese systems I collected have more darker colors and always felt more natural but the last system I bought before they got discontinued a NEW 2DS XL has a warmer display with a blue-ish tint giving it a darker color like my Japanese systems so I’m excited to try this out! 🤩
So I have a weird unique issue on this one. I have IPS screens on my display, just looking at them a certain way I can tell pretty easily (those of you who know the trick, you know) But system info identifies them as TN screens. And a different Homebrew application that identifies system information says that the shell for my 3DS is red. But I have a black 3DS. I guess replacing parts doesn't account for this
I have a non XL n3DS and it really does look better even with the TN screens. Always wanted an IPS XL one, but they are way too expensive and also IMO it feels much cheaper in the hand than the non XL... Well, cannot have everything I guess
I have tried this and it works perfectly on my double IPS new 3DS XL, the colours are much better. Before the change they were more washed up than on my double TN New 3ds.
@@saqqawattuhb7505first of all, the screen type has nothing to do with any kind of software. Second of all, your 3ds is just as unlikely to get bricked by updating in universal updater as any other one
I did not notice any more battery drainage than usual. As for whether or not it applies to all systems like NDS and GBA, I would have to do some testing but I think it doesn’t since the 3DS technically boots into a DS mode when playing DS games which is in a different isolated environment hence why you can’t access the Luma menu when playing DS games.
@@BooleanDev bro i went trough tuff times i replaced the top screens of the new 2DS XL, OG 3ds, new 3ds and the DSI XL where you need to solder some cables xd. (my inner self is screaming for a ips 3ds xl now)
I did this many years ago, one of my first attempts at taking apart a console/handheld. Had a second 3ds with an IPS top screen and pulled it out and put it in to my Fire Emblem Fates New 3DS. Both consoles are still working to this day, and my New 3DS is still worth over $500 with the top and bottom ips screens. It is really difficult and you have to be very careful but it's totally doable. If you can find a broken 3ds with a confirmed IPS screen (assuming the screen isn't the broken part) you can definitely switch them... but again, not easy.
Hi, I have a modded 3ds IPS how do I get this done? Can just download Luma 3ds and instal from manager? Will it cause problems for the mod/jack? Thank you.
It’s worth it, takes like 25 minutes and you can get a whole bunch of cool software and ports of games, not to mention hundreds of official games for free 🤫

Yea that would be sick, wondering how it would work with the 3D effect since it relies on a parallax filter for the display.

It really just seems to make the dark colors darker, but it is really a noticable improvement! Thanks for the info! Mucho Gracias!
