    Jormag won't be able to change his breath by respeccing since he's a Shadow Dragon, *however* the level 12 transformation can be used to give his dragon breath lightning damage by picking the astral transformation (as well as the toher damage types via their respective transformations, etc.)

      Ahh right, that was it. I thought there was a way to do it via hero special upgrades because it did it with Jormag in my last series, but could not remember how. Thanks!

    Great exciting battle in the end. Blue is really scary, which is not surprising, mystic cultures tend to be very hard to fight once they have done a good deal of research, and phase beasts are very good against ranged heavy armies, especially the somewhat flimsy ranged units that reavers get.

      @BlackArrowGaming  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah that battle was a bit of a nail biter. I lost a lot of stuff but in this case don't feel too bad about it. I think I punched him a lot harder than he punched me, and I've got the income and infrastructure to rebuild fairly quickly. That being said, situations like this make me think it would be really nice to research luxury markets and get that built in vegas. I could use the gold surplus from winning battles to quickly replace any lost units. Do you know if that luxury markets discount stacks with the fire forge gold discount in vegas?

    In build out cities like Washington DC there is really no reason to keep foresters and quarries around if you can replaces them with special provinces (remember that you have the materium upgrade that gives you +5 gold for every special province) . In Washington DC you can for example replace a forester next to two mines with the great foundry. Doing so would give you: +10 gold from the foundry itself, +6 gold and +10 draft from adjacent bonusus, +10 gold from the merchants guild, +5 gold from being a special province, +10 mana from being a mine and lastly +2 gold and mana from your extraction nexus.... That's +33 gold, +12 mana and +10 draft!

      Oh dang you're right - I often target three of each of the "base" improvement types for the purpose of hurrying building production, but once cities have already been developed that isn't needed anymore. I'll take another look at that before the next episode!

    2:10:15 You got an inferno poppy out of killing the phase beast because you had branded the phase beast earlier with the balor

    Actually, charge units that phase do get the benefit of 20% damage per hex travled (it is the distance you move that count, not how you move) so phase beasts get their full damage if they phase 3+ hexes.

      @BlackArrowGaming  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      oh dang...that is scary good! Thanks for sharing. That could make a life or death difference for some of my poor magelocks. Do you know if charge bonuses only count the distance between the attacking unit and the unit being attacked as of the start of the turn? Is it possible to "build up" a charge by using extra movement to just run around in the open before attacking? You could do that in AOW 3 but I'm not sure about this game.

    Bozo the Blue is coming for you. Guess the dragon didn't appreciate your remodeling of the mountains (:

    Great episode, especially the fight towards the end. As others have mentioned, phase beasts are a load, especially against an opponent using a lot of non melee units. The Mirror Mimics give added flexibility. I know you were really concerned about them copying the Balor, but they would have been a weaker version doing less damage than the original. (Make no mistake that a lesser version doing less damage is still pretty good). The good news is you likely wiped out most of blue's core experienced army. You will have to try to keep the pressure up to keep him from rebuilding/recasting.
    As noted, your upkeep on units is rather high these days, especially since you don't have the Rune smith trait to help keep costs down. While you mostly fixed it during the episode by losing units, you may want to go through and reevaluate some of the enchantments you have and perhaps trim a few. You can always recast them later. Case in point, is purging arrows doing a lot for you as an example? The upkeep on them is almost 100 mana a turn. Instead of looking at so many enchantments, perhaps looking at minor race changes would be better. Those are expensive to cast, but do not have a upkeep cost to go with them.
    Watchers are a very solid unit that synergizes well with your force. More is good. :)
    You will need to save up imperium and be ready to plunk down 500 as soon as Martial Ancestry becomes available.

      @BlackArrowGaming  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good thinking, but I want to hang on to purging arrows at least for now because of the extra damage it gives against magic origin units. Blue has a lot of those and I'm gonna need all the help I can get over there. I've got plenty of extra mana income at the moment, should be enough to tide me over for now. Thanks for the reminder about martial ancestry btw, that's a hefty chunk of imperium but i'm definitely going to need it :)

    25:56 The bazaar of wonders is one of the best special province improvement in the game as it can give you a whole lot of extra gold. The one you are placing here gives you +42 gold and +12 mana for the loss of only 5 production (+ I think a loss of 3 mana from the runecarvers camp). The placement is not ideal though as the 3 ajecent farms in Las Vegas only count once giving you 5 gold instead of 15 (the lines showed when you placed it do not take into account that provinces of the same kind only count once, but the numbers shown do)
    Fortunately that is easily fixed as the northern farm can be turned into a mine while I think the southern can be turned into a quarry (which would also benefit the rune carvers camp in Washington DC)

      @BlackArrowGaming  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Another good idea here, although I kinda hate to cut down on growth in vegas too much atm. Still, I can turn other provinces to sand and build more farms elsewhere, so its still probably worth it.

    1:23:25 Pretty sure we've all made that mistake of sending a hero away before founding an outpost with them. It would be nice if there was a late imperium tech in the general empire tree that would unlock outpost founding for all units. Just to streamline things in the lategame.

      @BlackArrowGaming  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah...although also I play most of my off-camera games with a self-imposed "no reload" policy, I might have made an exception for something like that. But not for my TH-cam channel. I will just have to deal with it, haha

    Also you've done a pretty good job of building roads, but maybe it's time to start thinking about teleporters?

    • @BlackArrowGaming
      @BlackArrowGaming  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think that's a good idea. I'd like to have one near both denver, ohio, and DC so that I can shift units between the frontlines and the center as needed. Will have to wait for a bit though since I currently need the imperium for the new city and a few other pressing empire upgrades

    Wow that magic dragon isn't playing around. I assumed their special trait to cast 2 spells per turn would only be active in battles the dragon participates in, but seems like it's there in this battle? And looks like they cast time stop on you on the first turn, which is pretty scary, and could mean they have disruption wave and cosmic overdrive as well. You might need some source of dispelling negative effects.
    That phase beast turned into an inferno puppy because you hit it with the balor's chaos brand.
    You could use a battlemage hero to make use of gilded magic. Might be an idea for your next hero that should be available in a few turns.
    Since you mentioned respeccing Jormag though... You can change the aspect, not the breath type. Dragon breath counts as a magic attack, so crits should be able to trigger gilded magic, materium and astral aspect give crit chance. Potential wizard dragon?? Never tried it myself, so I couldn't tell you wether it's good.

    • @BlackArrowGaming
      @BlackArrowGaming  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I don't have much in the way of dispelling magic effects. Tome of alchemy is good for that but I'm not sure it's worth going back to research a T1 tome when i'm getting close to a T5. Will have to re-evaluate during my next tome unlock. Appreciate the clarification about the inferno puppy, btw :)
      I like the idea of stacking some crit bonuses onto a magic-based hero. Could pair it with gold golems to take advantage of some of their abilities as well, and i don't have any magic-based heroes yet (aside from jormag, which is kind of a melee mage in a way i suppose)

    1:06:42 If there's a way to change the element of your dragon's breath, I haven't found it. That being said, I've never played a game that lasted long enough for me to unlock the later major skills on a dragon, so maybe there's something there.

    • @BlackArrowGaming
      @BlackArrowGaming  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A couple of the others commenting reminded me that the dragon's breath attack can be modified with a different element at level 12, so I will have to work towards that :)
