    I make journals from vintage ephemera, but am watching videos on leather to make my son one for Christmas. I'll be using a vintage, well worn Harley vest with leather tie sides. I've never done this stitch. Do you have a slower tutorial on it? Id appreciate learning this one to use on the leather. Thank you in advance!

      Linda, you can click on settings and change the playback speed. It might help, just turn the volume down so the speed of the music doesn’t bother you. I do it all the time when I follow my favorite bullet journal artist. 😊

    How did you make the papers?

    Hi Simon. Thanks for your video, it's very helpful as I'm just starting out using leather. I 'd like to line my leather journals with patterned paper. I have no problem gluing the paper on to the leather itself ( it keeps nice and flat) but when I bend it to form the book the paper creases and ruins it. Do you have any advice to prevent this form happening?

    • @SimonSaysDIY
      @SimonSaysDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks! I’m not sure if you can avoid that completely but in the past I used fabric instead of paper because it is more flexible and can stretch and compress when you bend the leather. Also I haven’t glued paper or fabric to the spine of the book where it will be bending the most. The spine will just be covered up by the pages in the book so the liner won’t be needed.
      Hope that helps!

      I've done something where I used a piece of cardstock (like the cardboard on the back of a notebook or a cut up cereal box) and I covered that in my fabric or paper of choice and then glued that the leather, it creates a sturdier cover and theres no bending or creasing

    What thickness leather do you recommend for this book?

    Interesting approach - perhaps, because the leather is so soft, arrange it so that the flap tucks in on the inside instead of sitting on top? How is the flap standing up after 3 years?

    I'm curious as to where you found the paper or if you just folded them yourself?

      Ja..was thinking same...where could we find those and what do you call them?

    • @noahlaizer7434
      @noahlaizer7434 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@seanorme7605 They're called signatures. They're grouped in about 4-8 pages, depending on paper thickness. Just take said paper and fold it in half to the desired length. Or if you really looked hard enough im sure you could find someone selling paper book signatures.

    This may be a stupid question... why didn't you just bind each signature to the leather as you sewed them together? (That's what I do.)

    • @carloasis1495
      @carloasis1495 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was thinking the same, do you have the same results ?

    • @davidstehlik5365
      @davidstehlik5365 ปีที่แล้ว

      wouldn't that create gaps in between the signatures when the book is opened?

    • @bobwillix4229
      @bobwillix4229 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@davidstehlik5365 it only creates gaps when you put too much "space" between the signatures. Sew them directly into the leather super tight and you won't need to do what he did (although what he did worked awesome as well).
