Anyway, I probably would not have attempted to do this repair without your video. Thanks! (and yes there was no way the steering wheel was coming off without a wheel puller).

Saved me some time already; I just ordered the clockspring so I have it on hand. Her ignition is intermittent and the turn signal doesn’t self cancel, so 40 bucks at Rockauto
Great video. I have a 97 also. I just replaced the clock spring today. Didn’t fix my problem ( horn not working/ airbag light on). This was a doorman brand for $129. I never check the fuses, if it’s not that, I might bring the clock spring back. But, your videos are great,! This video was extremely helpful!
Just for good measure, I ordered another clock spring today from the auto parts store that will serve as a replacement to the new, possibly faulty one I put in this weekend. Hopefully that’s all it is, and I’ll get a refund for the part I ordered today. I grew up driving junk that I had to keep going, and learned how to do repairs in the late 80’s onward. Boy, would TH-cam have come in handy back in the day pulling all nighters working on cars with my buddies! But, you have great delivery and know what you’re doing; keep up the good work/videos.

Just finished this on my '98 wrangler -- took aboout 45 minutes. Just a word to wise -- DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FIRST !!! Then wait about 10 minutes or so before messing with the airbag. Good chance that nothing will happen but better safe than sorry. I would suggest using a steering wheel puller, it makes the job alot easier. I picked one up at Harbor Freight for $35. This was a pretty straight forward job-- just take your time...Thanks for the video !!!!!

Thanks man for sharing. My friend changed the indicator 3 times believing that it was faulty for not getting canceled when turning the wheel back. He also lost the horn and has airbag signal on all the time so it is definitely the clock spring. thanks again !

I have a 2000 jeep wrangler TJ and I have this problem with the airbag light popping up and also when I push the horn it wont stop and will just keep honking. I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd, that needs a new clock switch, apparently. I got quoted $2000. for one in Canada! Horn is disabled now. Can I drive it without a new clock switch? The car is in Mexico.

I have other work to do to it before i should get it aligned but need to replace the clock spring also.. someone told me that it needs to be aligned before changing the clock spring or it will short it out.. is that true or can i just change it???
I have the opposite problem. The Airbag light is on and the horns is stuck on. I disconnected the wires on the horn. That could be the same problem? The clock spring?
It could be, but you need to verify the horn circuit is actually working first, Button and relay/fuses. Your gonna have to probe for power before and after the clock spring, and add power to see where the 'break' is. Good Luck

I have a 1997 Wranger TJ, last night the horn honked by itself nonstop; I don't any security system. To stop it , i disconnect the battery to stop it. What would the cause of it?
Did this! Horn works and airbag light is off! But in the process I think I messed up my turn signals?! Right signal is fine Left signal only works on the back and goes really fast?! Anybody have the same issue?!
Rock Auto has a listing for them. Its under, Interior, then airbag. Standard Brand, Dorman or Wells. If you have the extra bucks, I hear the MOPAR brand it the best bet. Thanks for watching.
ALWAYS disconnect your battery when working with airbags. And never sit directly infront of the air bag on first start up after working on them. You don't want to be in the way of an accidental deployment

SERIOUSLY? You disassembled your airbag without disconnecting the negative terminal and letting the capacitors bleed down for 20 minutes??? No torque wrench with proper torque specs and thread locker on the shaft nut? Wow.

Good luck! I have not gone to deep into these yet, but from what others have told me the ignition switches do wear out frequently.

Don't forget the first thing to do is disconnect the battery and let the air bag capacitor discharge (about 20 minutes). Thanks for posting

Yes, you can drive with a bad clock spring, you turn signals just wont, cancel. Possibly the airbag and/or horn won't work.
I notice you did not remove the negative battery terminal. Is it not necessary?

Probably just a bulb out. Clock spring should not affect speed or lighting of a bulb. Thanks for watching.
Not disconnecting the battery and letting the electricity in capacitors and circuits is a high risk of one spark blowing that airbag up!
