I do plan to test this ammo in shorter barrels, like just try the .38 Special in my 2" Taurus 605 and the 9mm in my 3" DB9 or 3.2" Taurus G2C. Once in a great while you get ammo that doesn't like some barrels so even if you get good velocity, the bullet might not stabilize correctly and not impact the target straight. It's possible that happened here and gave potentially worse performance than a shorter barrel. Probably not, but it's possible. Good enough of an excuse to justify more tests with it.
I carry the Ruger LCR 357. What is the best self defense round for it that you e tested on 38 special? Thanks Too many options and can’t decide what to use
@@wolverinegnr Consistently it's been the Hornady Critical Defense 110 gr+P, but also the Federal Hydrashok Deep does really really well. There's a lot of various loads that do well but they often have negatives like too much recoil, if lead bullets too much smoke. The Hornady Critical Defense from a 2" barrel seems to do well most of the time, and I have tested it a lot. The standard pressure or light version don't do very well at all in a snub.
Your testing is the best and I enjoy every test you conduct. They provide excellent data on pistol performance. I learn every time viewing them. Thanks
I suppose "you get what you pay for" , but it's not bad for standard pressure ammo . I mean , I doubt I would use this stuff for self-defense , but if it's all I've got then I guess I would .Thanks for another great test & video !!
Thanks a lot for the tip! For me, I might use it but I would be rotating the ammo a lot with fresh ammo due to not having sealer primers and bullets like good LE ammo.
Great video as per usual sir. Great hits at 75 with the 9mm. Idk how you do that with a pistol. The damn front sight is bigger than the target at that range. Bad ass sir.
Thanks. It's one of those things that seem difficult, but once you do it a lot it's really not. Usually not a lot different than say, shooting a coin sized target at maybe 5 yards. Same thing, just as easy. The only time when it's not is when really funky exterior ballistics happen like a .38 wadcutter dropping like a stone over distance or a round that is so fast it will impact 2 feet lower than other ammo, stuff like that.
Yeah I get a lot of people flipping out over ammo costs and who refuse to buy like, HST or Gold Dot or something decent, just to save money. When most guns only hold 15 rounds and you have to pay $1 for each round instead of cheaper .70 cents a round, to me it makes the least sense to skimp on something like that. That's like $4 more...But I guess if people want to save that little money and gamble on their lives, they can play stupid games and win stupid prizes.
The one thing I did find using this ammo if you have an auto that's picky about bullet design these chamber like greased lightening I absolutely liked them that way. I experienced the same results with the bullets not opening same 2 calibers. Haven't tried magnums yet.
Interesting as you said, most of my revolvers are 357-Magnum, and in the defence dept, I use the Remington 125gr SJHP, In the 9mm, all defence rounds are +P or +P+ with one exception being the Hornady 115gr C.D. Thanks for posting, have a safe weekend.🇺🇸
I been keeping the Federal 9BPLE +P+ is my M&P pistol. I am getting to the point of studying ballistics and information, testing etc that I feel like it's the only way to go for a defensive 9mm in a larger pistol.
With Fiocchi, you may get ammo made in their USA plant or Italy. And, their USA ammo is often made from Italian components. So, you never really know what you're going to get. I do love their ammo, but carry Federal HST. 🤠
Reminds me of Magtech. It's decent, but defensive wise I don't like it that much. HST, Gold Dot or Win Ranger for me. Anything with the blue primer seal is what goes in my carry guns.
I still carry a 340PD in a pocket holster instead of any of the 9MM offerings b/c they’re lighter & easier to conceal. It’s something I can always have with me where most 9MM will need to be on a belt or in a shoulder holster, limiting how I can dress.
I watched one of your old videos on deiseling pellets what you should try is the hand gel we all was using for covid and vaseline together the gel is like a explosive charge and try putting a theoben gas ram in your rifle for the 30 cal get a .22 makes it a lot quieter and more powerful should be getting 1100 fps you may need to alter the ram length depending on your rifle not hard to do but well worth it 😀
Hey @GunSam & everyone Merry Christmas. I filmed my first Ballistic Bologna test today to OG Gun Sam Protocol .38+p Hyrashock Deep vs Remington UMC from 2" snub, 9mm 124 Punch & HST vs WWB 115 from 3.2" Micro, & will get to testing the NEW .357 Magnum HST vs Old School Hyrdrashok vs.....idk either Critical Duty or likely Old school Silvertip since not too many tests from it from a 3" Ruger. I emailed you the unlisted links let me know your thoughts if you could.
If the ammo is cheap, it's fine. At least in this test. I would probably pass on it for short barrels. The thing with cheap ammo, if it is so-so, you can at least practice with what you carry. Although I would like a bit more heat or better bullet design. For revolver, I'm rather sold on SJHP designs with soft lead and large HP cavities. If only the solid copper bullets from Barnes weren't so expensive!
Great video's as usual. Is it possible to keep your steel target shooting to 10 to 15 yards. Some states would consider over that as the shooter being the aggressor. Thank you for your work.
@GunSam Thanks for your informative work and please keep the long distance segments. For those shooting situations where it's Friday the 13th, you've broken a mirror, walked under a ladder and have a herd of black cats cross your path, the long range information is interesting and might prove useful.
@GunSam you got that right. At 12 yards you don't even break a sweat. Some of us are checking grip, stance, and sights to have some level of accuracy. You really shine at 75 yds. Hats off to you. That's rifle territory 🤣🤣
Let me guess without watching- both fail spectacularly. Fiocchi ammo is range ammo, all of it, regardless of what the box says. Time to find out. Edit- Not too wrong, they clog like mad in anything but plain gel.
I have Fiocchi extrema 124 xtp loaded in nickel starline brass 357 Sig, im disappointed Hornady is skimping and going brass case on premium defence rounds? Whudd you think?
With stuff like .357 Sig or .357 Magnum, I think plain brass can have some advantages as the pressure and power is high enough to crack case mouths if they are nickel plated. With 9mm or .40 S&W or .38 Special, I do prefer nickel.

Great video, like. Always. Any interest in 158gr at 1500 fps?

Hey Sam! Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas!💯

GS. Thanks. Always a good and interesting video/comparison. Thanks for sharing and take care.
Thank you. Take care

"Modern Meat Target" Tested 124 gr Fiocchi Defense Dynamics vs Federal punch in both Short & Long Barrels th-cam.com/video/e22hwbbevgQ/w-d-xo.html
Another good video comparing ammunition.
Thanks enjoyed.👍
I have used the 9mm with no issues, but I haven't done expansion or ballistics on it, thanks for the info, I'll still carry my Hornady
"...it tenses up my grip, and I just, ya know, shoot pretty well." 😂 You certainly do!

Thing is: high quality ammo is expensive, but it's something I'm trusting my life to. My life is worth a few extra $.

@@GunSam & sometimes, they'll spend thousands of $ on a Wilson Combat or a Korth, then skimp on the ammo. Makes no sense at all.

This is why all of my ammo that I stock is fmj, and all of the carry ammo I stock is the good stuff
Ammo like this is pretty close to FMJ prices, especially in .38 Special as you really can't get super cheap .38 Special ammo anymore.
@@GunSam I stand corrected after memory revealed itself. The .357 I stock is mostly 158 grain jsp

Thanks for that test. I agree, spend your hard earned money on a better carry-ammo.
I got some ammo from sportsmans guide that was very reasonable and they got it to my house quick, like 3 days. figured I'd pass that on.
My wifey doesn't like this brand. The word she uses for it starts with the F but only has 4 letters.
Thanks Mr. Sam and Merry Christmas.
Fee yucky

I wonder how this would perform in a 16” barrel pcc

Yeah, I agree with you on not using shorter barrel lengths. It seems it would be more Un-expanded bullets having even less penetration.

BTW about 75% of my videos I do 12 yards. I just didn't here because it's boring with longer barrels where I just hit easily.

I would say neither really failed, but the 9mm wasn't that good. The .38 Special seems about as good as others.
Where’s these 50 round boxes of hollows at never seen one in my life until recently
Hey Sam have you ever tried out 9mm jacketed soft points?
👍😊
I feel like Fiocchi has been putting out some really awesome stuff recently. Including their 32 Caliber stuff.
The Fiocchi Wadcutters are excellent!
