The Alien Queen is just one design no one dares to mess with. She looked amazing in both Aliens and AVP. I hope we see her again commanding her insect-like children.
3:27 even though I know it’s an animatronic being controlled like a big puppet, that guy has some serious balls to stand this close to such a terrifying sight Call me a wuss if you want but this is game over for me man, game over
beautiful, from the sculpting, the molds and animatronic puppetiring... keep showing the world we don't need to abuse on CGI... Hope you use that queen for something awesome on the future...
There is so much I want to say about this. First of all, I am stunned at how much more advanced this queen appears to be. The artistry surrounding the tech is bar non. I love the battle damage and... yeah. So much I want to say, but I'm at a loss for words. It must have been an awesome time in the shop.
When you don't need to show full body motions, you stick to a puppet, it's more realistic, interacts with the actors and serves as reference for the cgi guys :)
THe original queen was attached to a crane, and there were two guys in her chest operating her arms. She stood about 15 feet tall, 25 feet long (with the tail).
Imagine yourself working on this and its nearly finished and the one night you forgot something there and you go to pick whatever it is up and you find this thing moving on its own. Worst prop gone to life scenario ever, or worst prank done by a fellow co-worker.
Siolfor80 If you ever do, make sure you wait for him in the dark and where he can't see you. A true Xenomorph would attack when their prey is unknowingly turning their back to them. Hide in the closet and keep all the lights off until he comes and turns on the lights before scaring the shit out of him by sneaking behind him and scaring the living shit out of him XD It would also be scary if you were taller than him.
Connor Clemmons OH I know . . . would plan to have the movie Alien running at the same time. Maybe cut the room's power . . . flickering light somewhere. XP Height wouldn't be an issue, can print foot stilts.
Siolfor80 Having the movie running would be too much of a hint for what might be going on. You want things to seem normal when your roommate gets there. At best, pause the movie and have an empty/half empty bag of popcorn somewhere, but don't be around the movie, you want to make it seem like you got up to use the bathroom or something. And a major bonus is if you got the hissing for the Xenomorph to sound, play it right behind him in his ear XD
CGI is less cost efficient and time efficient. it takes some 560 computing hours to render a single second of CGI, that's 45 frames btw. and it costs some 7-10k per second. practical effects cost maybe around that much to build in total, and they take less hours to film and build.
did you not read what i posted up before? 560 computing hours, for a single second of full CGI. 7k at the cheapest per second. costs maybe around 10k to make an animatronic and a bit more to touch that up with CGI here and there. that is how you make CGI in movies affordable, practical effects + touch up with CGI. Full CGI, i admit, IS less restrictive but it is by no means cheaper OR faster.
***** I can also render something on my own computer but this is nothing compared to movie CGI. 1 second of CGI = ca.$7000 CGI is compute intensive. A single CGI frame can take upto 12 hours to render depending on complexity. There are 45 frames in a second so that's 540 compute hours for a SINGLE interation of a SINGLE second of CGI. Most shots see at least 20 iterations so make that 10.800 computer hours.
***** Sure it is not easy, but to create a realistic 3D Models like Gollum in Lord of the Rings is on the same level and takes as much time. If you want something that looks good, it does not matter whether it is animatronic or CGI. The effort is the same.
Congratulations to you all for this extraordinary work! Yes, she's the icon of alien creatures ever made! Every single details you give the best to put up this creature for real! Thank you
I absolutely love this. My sister just recently got Mortal Kombat X (I think, it's on PS4) with the Xenomorph DLC, and sense the Queen is part of one of the fatalities, I was curious to get another look of her. The animatronic was very well made, I love how much she's able to move and the level of detail. Incredible work!
Both beauty and beast! Holy mackerel is this channel awesome! I love older movies and this is such a treat to see how my favorite parts and characters were brought to life!
The perfect organism... Loved every second of this video. Seeing a start to finish like this is really interesting, when are the "how it's made" boys going to be at your doorstep?
she probably is but she has a lot of children! what if she needs to go to the grocery store and leaves you in charge of the kids! you will be exhausted when she comes back lolololol
The guy at 3:40 looks legitimately terrified so you know its a job well done. It looks so satisfying to create this prop. Makes me want to buy that Queen Alien in hive play set by Kenner, its probably only one of the Kenner Aliens i don't have, lol.
Studied film production at a Cal State school which didn't have resources nor creative instructors. Learning about FX through various resources, thanks for posting ADI, enjoy the mechanical aspects, learning from Lazzarini
I remember hearing how the puppeteers didn't quite get the mouths in the right order at one point. This meant that the inner mouth shot out at a colossal speed and made the teeth explode out of its head. An expensive yet hilarious mishap.
Great job by the entire technical team !👍👏👏 Queen Alien is beautiful and royal ! 😃😁🙂🤩 PS: beautiful photo of the queen with the whole team at the end of the video! Bravo to all 😉👏👏👏👏
It's crazy amazing the stuff you guys do- practical effects are really the way to go, everything is just so much better! Huge fan of the Alien series, this brings joy to my heart!
The original queen is in Lyon (France) where a guy bought it to renew it. He is an old school FX maker so I can bet it will be done in the state of art....
I know Universal Studios used to have a graveyard lot where they kept all their old movie monsters and props on display, but they didn't maintain any of them and just left them to rot in the sun; eventually they were torn apart for scrap. The original Alien Queen is in France and is being privately maintained, but sadly, not all practical effects monsters are so lucky.
I think there's a few museums world wide that keep cinematic props, and there are some people who collect things strictly from the movie. I remember in the Aliens Quadrilogy pack that came out some 7-9 years ago had bonus material featuring a guy who kept strictly Alien(s) props . . . turns out the Queen head/torso used in Resurrection was the same used in Aliens. Thought that was pretty cool.
Bravo guys. I don't care that it takes all that tech to make the queen move, it works and it looks AMAZING! There should be a moving model in a museum somewhere. I'm sure people would pay just to see the alien queen moving in person.
At 3:48 .. nice smile!! Lol A true Artistic gift .. amazing sharing ....! It's cool to have access to this vid and see & understand.. really.. the very 'hard' work... Also.. that Art is more great : when it's always respected for its fair value & when you see the 'solidarity' of creative Team. ' ' Congratulations to the all Team .. Incredible work!!! ' '

I dunno.....I feel like I'd have an irresistible urge to boop the xeno queen's "nose".....
😭
beautiful, from the sculpting, the molds and animatronic puppetiring... keep showing the world we don't need to abuse on CGI... Hope you use that queen for something awesome on the future...
I never fully appreciated the queen till now 😮 She's so beautiful.
There is so much I want to say about this. First of all, I am stunned at how much more advanced this queen appears to be. The artistry surrounding the tech is bar non. I love the battle damage and... yeah. So much I want to say, but I'm at a loss for words. It must have been an awesome time in the shop.
Wow. I didn't know the Queen was actually made with a machine! I thought it was all tacky CGI but now I'm very impressed.
How do you think they made the original Alien Queen?
Didn't give it much thought to begin with.
Jason Alcatraz They did both. But in the early movies it was all "real".
GHAAADAYUMM!! Even those molds are works of art!!
Imagine yourself working on this and its nearly finished and the one night you forgot something there and you go to pick whatever it is up and you find this thing moving on its own. Worst prop gone to life scenario ever, or worst prank done by a fellow co-worker.
Hehe, was tempted to get into 3D printing, make a Xenomorph suit, and scare the shit out of my roomy. Would be epic as all hell.
Siolfor80 If you ever do, make sure you wait for him in the dark and where he can't see you. A true Xenomorph would attack when their prey is unknowingly turning their back to them. Hmmm, true enough . . . oh I can do the hissing very easily. >:)
Damn man, and here I thought I was a twisted sonovabitch. lol
It's so amazing how these guys put in all this work and talent!!! Real awesome
just GREAT!
Bet ya once she puts her make up on and has a coffee, she's not so bad.
HAHA
Ninja Of Irony You tried to be funny using racist words and failed miserably
She's beautiful the way she is lmao, like most women
Evan Meade XD

I'll take this over cgi any day.

Yes but these practical effects need to be completed by CGI afterwards
they're touched up with CGI, which cuts the cost and the time spent on it by a significant margin.
John Blood CGI is faster, cheaper and less restrictive. This is why we don't really see animatronics in movies anymore. Sad but true

3:26.. .sorry honey...i forgot about the milk
+Kid Swan ('broccoli') LMAO
yeah, we can all agreed talking to a pissed off missus feels a lot like this
Kid Aku you didn't forgot about milk but you forgot about Malk
Pawornprat Srisawangwong the wife doesn't appreciate such jokes
Pawornprat Srisawangwong you didn't forgot about milk but you forgot about Malk😂😂😂😂hahahaha funny
Remind me why Hollywood insists on using crappy CGI instead of this?
*****
nope it isn't, CGI is a much more expensive and the time expense is significantly higher
*****

***** home made cgi = shit
Re-creating... 'THE ROYAL BITCH'.
AMAZING
Congratulations to you all for this extraordinary work! Yes, she's the icon of alien creatures ever made! Every single details you give the best to put up this creature for real! Thank you
Carlos Costa Bullshit Paul W.S. Anderson is fucking joke and ruined aliens..
Now make a Xenomorph that has combined with a great white.... or a T-Rex....
Nikke DosE And ruined predator.
I absolutely love this. Now I wanna build one and put it in my front yard on Halloween.
And every other day
K2_SLAYER_ Holy shit dude that would be so sick.
Same XD
K2_SLAYER_
I would put it on top of my car and sit on top of it while my friend drives XD
How about on a float for a Christmas parade through town!?
The final product is fantastic!
I love seeing how they do things like this. It's fascinating to watch. :)
I actually got pretty emotional and teary eyed, watching this video. It must be so fucking awesome seeing her face to face. *jelly af*
That is one badass mother.... Seriously!
Both beauty and beast!
Holy mackerel is this channel awesome! I love older movies and this is such a treat to see how my favorite parts and characters were brought to life!
The perfect organism...
Loved every second of this video.
Seeing a start to finish like this is really interesting, when are the "how it's made" boys going to be at your doorstep?
wow, that's a hell of an engineering feat!
well done and a convincing replication.
The brain bug on the wall looks awesome!
The queen is bad ass!
3:49 the brain bug from Starship Troopers just beside the queen lmao
She is beautiful, I wonder if she's single?..
A single mother with a lot of kids.
The idea of a Xenomorph king is a good one.
She may be single but i bet she has a lot of drones around...
yeah!!! you don't want that kind of baggage.
she probably is but she has a lot of children! what if she needs to go to the grocery store and leaves you in charge of the kids! you will be exhausted when she comes back lolololol
Now thats how a Queen should look like.
Gorgeous art and engineering.
How did you go about making this beast? Did you re-use moulds or blue-prints from Aliens or make it from scratch?
Either way, fantastic work!
LittleJimmy835 they can’t if the whole design is different.....
The work behind this is so remarkable. And it looks real.
The guy at 3:40 looks legitimately terrified so you know its a job well done. It looks so satisfying to create this prop. Makes me want to buy that Queen Alien in hive play set by Kenner, its probably only one of the Kenner Aliens i don't have, lol.
lol he was probably thinking about how the ED209 in Robocop got OUT OF CONTROL and the same could happen right there
ELKFILMZ I don't care who you are, that would be terrifying.
The neca alien queen is the best , it’s a stunning figure at 17inches tall and probably 24 inches long
The fact the put it together is amazing. No CGI rendering, its actually there
1:23- BRAIN BUG CAMEOOOOOOOO!!!
Sweet
Completely amazing!!! Perfect work!
I want this for christmast
Y ee that's impossible
Y ee me to
Y ee also me thats awsome
Y ee cannot happen it's it's to big and it's not for sail
XxPhantomGalaxy XDxX. dont mess up his dream
She was the best part of the AvP movie imo. Perfectly done.
4:00 The moment you realise you uploaded the most advanced A.I ever and it's broken its programming and set to kill mode
that final pose of the queen was awesome!! this blew my mind!! mmm im thinking i could make my characters for FYP with this stuff!! mmm
That is amazing! That must have been a lot of hard work
She is a big alien queen 👑 👾
Can't have a better mother than her :D

Don't usually favorite videos, but i had too. Love this thing. Thanks for sharing!
If only the dude who was face to face with the queen was wearing a batman suit.......then it would'v been perfect :)
Great job by the entire technical team !👍👏👏
Queen Alien is beautiful and royal ! 😃😁🙂🤩
PS: beautiful photo of the queen with the whole team at the end of the video!
Bravo to all 😉👏👏👏👏
I love how realistic the movement looks, despite it being all machine. Bravo!
It's crazy amazing the stuff you guys do- practical effects are really the way to go, everything is just so much better! Huge fan of the Alien series, this brings joy to my heart!
ALIEN 3 WAS AWESOME!!!!!!! I DONT CARE WHAT YOU SAY!! IT IS A MASTERPIECE!!!!
i like all the alien films but in my honest opinon the second was the best
Absolutely incredible. I wouldve been scared shitless standing in front of that thing while it was moving like that guy near the end!
what do they do with all this stuff when the movie is finished ? they can,t just throw it away...that would be a crime..
I had the same thought haha my guess would be either disassembled and tossed or went to a museum somewhere
The original queen is in Lyon (France) where a guy bought it to renew it. He is an old school FX maker so I can bet it will be done in the state of art....
every prop Hollywood makes is sold to make a quick dollar and to recover if the movie wasn't so successful.
MrBozoleclown38 that’s not the original queen it’s this one.
Amazing work ! Excellent! Congratulations everybody.
*So cool ✅🙂*
Your the Best and I Watch the predator video the 3 hour one
Brilliant work. Love the queen.

Tha-That's beautiful

Space may be the final frontier but its made in a Hollywood basement
Alec Gillis, Tom Woodruff Jr (and Entire Studio ADI Crew),..You All Rule! Period!

Can we talk about how much creativity and ingenuity some humans will put in for just for funzies and entertainment value? God our species is cool.
BEST TOY EVER !
be good deco for halloween lol
It's not a toy
BRAVO!! AMAZING!! thats what i call a work from real artists!!
1000 people thought this wasn't badass enough.
Very, very cool! Her Majesty back in action was the best part of AVP
Amazing! I wonder what do they do with all these models after filming... Does the studio have a museum or something?
really hope they kept the queen in one piece would be a shame if they took her apart
Thought that was pretty cool.
this must have been tons and tons of hard work!!
thanks a lot to the folks who made her real!
Makes the perfect watchdog.
animatronics bring so much more to a movie than cgi ever will; this is amazing.
AWESOME!!! FANTASTIC!! You could make one that walks by herself. This contraption can hurt people!
This is art and there should be traveling art exhibits of these works!
Amazing! Thank you for sharing.
Bravo guys. I don't care that it takes all that tech to make the queen move, it works and it looks AMAZING! There should be a moving model in a museum somewhere. I'm sure people would pay just to see the alien queen moving in person.
1:22 Looks like the Brain Bug hanging from the wall there
"I'm from Buenos Aries and i say KILL EM ALL!"

At 3:48 .. nice smile!! Lol
A true Artistic gift .. amazing sharing ....! It's cool to have access to this vid and see & understand.. really.. the very 'hard' work... Also.. that Art is more great : when it's always respected for its fair value & when you see the 'solidarity' of creative Team.
' ' Congratulations to the all Team .. Incredible work!!! ' '
It is a Robot! is fantastic evolucion for effect special! Congratulation AVP....
Incredible work! My hat is off!
Wow, I admire your work. it's not just a movie. It's an art.
What a magnificent machine! Its movements make it feel so terrifyingly alive.
This is so cool!!! I wish I could of been their to see the final product! :D Great job guys!!
This Queen is now in France at the museum "musée miniature & cinéma" at LYON. I admit, it isn't the real queen from James CAMERON but it's still an amazing creation. She was fixed up during an all entire year and now she is ready for visiting. I can't wait to see her!!!
My dream was to just watch this team riding the queen from the start.
great artists
I think that the kinda robotic/animatronic movement of the Queen has become a real characteristic of her character, and is a very recognizable and memorable element of her personality and appearance.
Kinda cool considering its essentially a bi-product of the physical effects used to create her back in Aliens, a massive puppet. And maybe when designed it wasn't exactly planned that it had some of these type of movements, but now its become part of its personality.
...I mean way thing thing looks when it moves just resembles the Queen from Aliens so much...you couldn't really tell them apart, its really cool.
Gente que equipe é essa?!! Show de criatividade.
I love how the queen looks very cool
I absolutley Love The Xenomorph Queen. She is frickin Awesome.
Best monster, ever! :-D
I love that creature. It's amazing.
