- After fully upgrading your nail four times with the Nailsmith (which takes a total of 6 pale ore) you will have a tough conversation with the Nailsmith.
After fully upgrading the nail to the pure nail the Nailsmith will give you some new dialogue outside:
"With a Pure Nail forged, my work in this lifetime comes to an end. My only remaining desire is to see and feel the nail strike true!
I beg you, cut me down. As my final moment in life, I want to taste the blade's exquisite edge.
After all this time, all this toil... haven't I earned it?
Do not hesitate. I beg you. Cut me down! I want to taste that blade's exquisite edge."
Do Not Kill the Nailsmith! In this video I will show you how you can save the Nailsmith's life and he can live happy with Nail Master Sheo.
Note: The Nailsmith will not move to Sheo's hut if the player has not acquired Great Slash. He will disappear after being spared and only appear in Sheo's hut after the player has gained the ability and rested on a bench afterward.

OH MY GOD! When the nail smith told me to kill him, I 100% thought,
"Wait, you don't have to die. You can just take up another hobby like Sheo did."
But I never even went to go check on Sheo at all even with that thought in my mind.
I love how the game sometimes gives you this opportunity of realization, makes it even more interesting.
dude in my playthrough nailsmith died becuse of the dream shield charm. i didnt even see it becuse i crystal dash right then he died -_-

My 7 year old son just struck him down today. I just told him that if he hadn't killed the nailsmith then he would have met up with the nail art guy and thanked him for not killing him. Lol he said aww. But he doesn't care either way 🤣.

I feel bad for killing the Nailsmith but he also asked for it as a completion of his life’s work. So technically, neither decision is wrong. Killing him is just in the moral grey area 👌🏽
The game makes you think "If i wont kill him he will hate me and he will be unhappy, and he will have nothing to do with his life"

Now I feel bad I don't know if I did the right thing, when this moment happen on my playthrough I was hesitant at first but then I thought I was honoring his wish by doing it😓
Well on people’s behalf who’ve killed him, life in Hallownest is awful, everyone is a zombie and it’s all about if you can kill or not, and the player knows the infection is rapidly getting worse, and you could only assume he would be infected and driven mad like the rest if you left him alive.

@@Sardine_Sandwich As the knight you are supposed to put an end to the "infection" by containing/defeating the Radiance, so you assume by default that this issue will be dealt with.

This reminds me of the time I saved Cloth THEN fought the traitor lord. I felt so bad but, then she mentioned someone named Nola (I think) who I assumed was a sibling or close friend of hers that had probably been dead for quite some time so, I thought “I guess in a way this was a happy ending for her”. Still cried though.

This is what happened in my save ı feel so sad
I had just came out of platting nioh 1 and 2 so the japanese high stakes honor system was still pretty fresh in my mind.
I could see the lucidity in the nailsmith as he made his final request. Knowing how he served me in my journey i felt obligated to serve him in his, so with solemn stoicism I charged the most powerful single strike I could muster lest he survive and feel failure in his work.... Then with tears falling behind my mask, i granted him his final wish.
Option A.
Finally let Nailsmith rest by killing him with his greatest achievement
Option B.
Let Nailsmith live and give him a goddamn boyfriend too

Once you made your way there and opened up the path above, you don't have to redo the entire thing again. All you need to do is to jump to the path above with monarch wings

and that is a wise lesson, you never know what will happen after killing someone even if he wanted it, you just can't predict a future. You can only make assumptions.

I killed him without knowing you could not kill him, but I'm ok with this ending. I find it more tragic and more in like with the general tone of the game.

I did the same with myla. I panicked when she started attacking me and I killed her :( I closed the game without saving but when I got back there she was still dead. I'm a monster :(

That's how hollow knight saves. Anything significant happens and it will save, bench or not.

On my first run, I was short a mask and tried to heal after I got the pure nail but accidentally pressed it instead of holding, and shot a shade soul. I realised my mistake too late.

I kill him and hes satified in knowing his creations strength and realising his skill
I don't kill him and he jumps off out of pure misery and almost incomplete and empty
...well...i was wrong

Its cool because sculpting is both a part of art/crafting and smithing. The entire questline/acheivement might be my favorite in the game
In my first playthrough of the game, I killed him. Now...
When I stood there, I contiplated if it was right to cut him down and after a while decided to give him the satisfaction of his life work. It definitly felt like it was the right choice, both actually are.
On the one hand you let him keep his life and make him pursue a new goal, while on the other hand you give him a feeling of satisfaction that he has been longing for, like an music orchestrator that after a lifetime of trying to compose the perfect piece hearing his beautiful symphony.
Obviously the ending where you don't kill him is loved more since it's way more wholesome and cute, but in the end, I feel like my decision was right the first time.
I honestly came really close to killing him. I felt too guilty to in the end. Had no idea he went back to Sheo tho, I outta back track and go do that!
At least now I know I made a good choice lol

When I did this, the nail smith was laying on the bed like rose from the titanic and the other guy was painting him lol same dialog but I think it was funnier and sexier

true 😔i also accidentally killed him, as i swung my weapon on accident the shock i felt sent me into a coma, where I was out for abour 3 weeks. When i left the hospital all i felt was dread. i was so sad i didnt leave my room for days, i ignored all my responsibilities. I even tried to kill myself from the guilt that i had.

These NPC's have a route to get to all these locations and i want it cause how the f*ck did the nail smith learn crystal dash and mantis claw and not get infected while doing it light speed cause cant even out speed it with the dreamgate
i did the dashing slice attack on him since i felt it would have the most dramatic effect lol

I think killing him has more impact in my experience with the game, an obscure and sad moment that fits with the dark aura of the game, but im going to feel guilty knowing that he can have a happy life.

i was recording getting the pure nail for a youtube video and tried to make it seem like i was gonna do a great slash then turn around and spare him but the hitbox of the slash extends backwards and killed him anyway
