It was a nonlinear laserdisc and 80s technology, so loading times would of course be slow. I'd imagine they ran into the same problem when taping the special all Dragon's Lair episode.
Loved this show! I used to run home from the bus stop every day to catch it on TBS just to see what new arcade games were coming out. Never get tired of watching it.
It makes sense to have the regular upright cabinet for Discs of Tron on the show, don't think the camera would have fit in the immersive one. Still, it would've been cool to see the electronic arena kinda suspended in air above the digital cityscape and to hear the voice of the late David Warner taunting us.
Dragons lair was a really bad choice for the final game. To many of the scenes like the horse one can take a long time for not nearly enough point (as what happened). The big points are for clearing an entire scene, smaller points for movements/actions inside each scene. Thus the 6k average, get 3 or 4 short 1-3 action scenes and its and easy 6k. Get the horse one....with an above average number of turns and your boned even with a flawless run like he had. He lost to bad choice/strategy, not to skill.
Also DoT is my all time favorite old school game, They had the environmental one at my local arcade as a teen. Actually had the chance to get the machine for free when they closed but took a old elctromech pinball machine instead because I had no way to move the giant DoT cab. Always wished I had taken it and kept it, they are worth a fortune now.
He had no way to know how the scene would be selected, though. The score methods were probably not thought out because the game was too new at the time.
@@techoverload Me too, I loved sitting in that DOT game and playing at the arcade we had at the local mall. I have the game on my Atgames Legends Ultimate arcade machine but it's difficult to play with out the original controls.

What a scam. There are so few if any iterations of DL cuts where you could score over 6000 in 30 seconds. Might as well just told the guy to pick a random number between 1 and 1000 while played video of DL as he decided -- would have been same result!

These are amazing to watch because I grew up in Stamford, CT and this was broadcast in that market. Good chance I watched this very broadcast.
