Some of those look really cool, I am bummed they didn’t add anymore Jaguar games as that’s one of the most underrepresented consoles of all time. Hopefully that’ll be in DLC#2.
Digital Eclipse was really cool and allowed the developer of the Jaguar emulator to release it. It's called BigPEmu and has 100% compatibility including Jag Cd. If you have a PC you should check it out.
To be fair, there's not a ton to represent from the Jaguar. And I say that as a Jaguar owner! I'd say there's around 20ish worthwhile games (a few of which are already on Atari 50).
@@cyrollan I know it’d be unrealistic to ask for Alien vs Predator because of obvious licensing issues, but wasting a spot on a broken mess like Fight For Life instead of a guilty pleasure game like Kasumi Ninja is aggravating. LOL Even getting something like Iron Soldier or Return Fire would be really cool.
I wanted the Atari 50, but I'd need an analog trackball and paddle controller. Those two controllers were so important for Atari games like Tempest and Crystal Castles.
Jason, this is the difference in age, when you have gamers like you and me in our 50's. We grew up on Atari and the nostalgia feel is real! I still have my OG Atari 2600 when I was a kid back in '82 playing with my Dad.
I'm looking forward to the interviews and artwork, but I do wish there had been a little more 7800, Lynx, and Jaguar representation. I think the M Network section is going to be the big update. I hope they keep the expansions going after these two.

I've been confused about this for a long time. When and how did they lose the license for Battlezone? Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the modern VR Battlezone a lot, but it's just weird to not see it on compilations anymore. I think the last time it appeared was on the Atari collection Volume 1 for Nintendo DS.
@atari Will the DLC #2 have 5200, 7800, Lynx and Jaguar games? DLC #1 Is just a bunch of games that are in other collections like the Flashback collection. I was really excited for this but now the only reason for me to really buy this is would be for Berserk and the interviews and to support Atari as a brand. DLC #1 doesn't look appealing at all 😞
The brief era of vector games at the arcade is still my favorite time. Red Baron was a favorite, along with the sit-down versions of Tail Gunner and Star Trek.
Many hours were spent on Blue Max on my Atari 400 back in the day. (The best zaxxon-like isometric shooter of the time, imho.) They should definitely add that one.
It was one of my favorite games on the Atari 2600. Gameplay wise, it's one of those rare games that still holds up. Just like Asteroids, Missile Command and Space Invaders.

I've been really digging the Atari comeback this last couple years. Feels like the IP is in good hands. Highly recommend Mr Run & Jump if you like 2D platformers.
Hopefully they'll partner with Retro Games again and give us a modern ST. I.was an Amiga kid, but a recreation of the ST with, say, 50 games? A day one buy.

Back in the day, everyone just called it simply, "Atari." It wasn't until the Atari 5200 came out did I remember people starting to call the original VCS system, the "Atari 2600." It was almost like a retronym that brewed up. Ultimately, it is the name that people remember best, because that is what people forever going forward called it.
They have a full-size Destroyer at the arcade in my town (shout out to Timelines!). It has a "periscope" gimmick that you press your face to in order to see the game. I had never seen it back in the day. I ended up playing that thing for about an hour, had a red mark on my face from the plastic, LOL. It's a unique challenge despite the dated graphics. Can't wait for this!
I want to ask Evelyn Seto why in 1982 there were not one, not two, but THREE 2600 cartridge packaging changes. So from the beginning of '82 to the end, there were FOUR packaging variations of 2600 games! And *then* in less than 6 months into 1983 they changed yet again starting with GALAXIAN! Things settled down after that with minor variations for things like the Sesame Street or Muppets titles and the next major change was in 1986 starting with JR. PAC-MAN.

I bought the Atari Vault +dlc on Humble Bundle a few years ago for under a couple bucks. One of the best purchases for the price. The only thing really missing that this collection has is the Atari 7800 and Jaguar games which are very few in number. Maybe I will eventually pick up the Atari 50 collection on a sale but I’m not going to pay a lot of money for a collection of games I mostly have already plus a couple I don’t like Ninja Golf and Food Fight. I would like to see a giant collection of Mastertronic games for the Atari 8-bit. A lot of treasures there.
It also really helps that books like Ready Player One reference Atari games a lot, which probably introduced a new generation of gamers to these titles for the arcades and consoles.
I'm liking how they're emulating the color overlays for the B&W games, rather than just straight-up using colored pixels, you can actually see the "overlay" on the screen. As someone who played a few of these back when they were new, that's just neat.
Have you tried Utopia Must Fall yet? Impressive homage to a lot of this era of arcade games. Feels like Asteroids + Missile Command + Space Invaders with a great soundscape and atmosphere.
I was eyeing this one when it was going to be released, now with the expansion I might just have to get it, especially with that sleek Steelbook edition with the extra goodies.
It would be so awesome if the physical expanded version would include the home brew of "Star Castle" for the 2600 as well as the 1983 "Star Wars" arcade game. As an extra bonus it could include all the "evolved" versions of the Atari games that appeared on the PSP release as well as some of the more recently "re-charged" versions of Atari classics. Probably none of this will be included. But at least we're getting arcade "Berzerk".
I remember seeing and playing Red Baron at KFC in Fairbanks, Alaska around 1980. The best part of the 80s were that video games were literally anywhere that had a space and plugin.

It uses that line-where-the-charges-will-explode mechanic that you can drive with your paddle, and even supports two-player simultaneous play! The manaul calls them "Sea Bomber" variations. As you seemed to enjoy Destroyer, I bet you'd like those, too.
No Desert Falcon for the 7800? Ah well. Also sort of wishing Ballblazer for the 7800 was included but wasn't terribly optimistic about that possibility Sky Diver, however... that is damn fun
Getting this was a no brainer for me because of the addition of multiple versions of Berserk. Been hoping for that for awhile. Red Baron was cool too. Reminds me a little of Snoopy vs the Red Baron. Haha.
Back in the day, i always knew it as the Atari VCS. It was only after i bought my Atari 600XL, that the Atari VCS was re released as the Atari 2600 to fit in with the XL series 🕹️
1:27 some of my earliest flashes of life, the actual beginning of my existence included this wood paneled legend....being barely alive, Haunted House was my jam back then, my mom played pinball and that sound atrocious pac man game. I'm positive some of those sound effects made it into my first nightmares 😂😂😂....then when I got older and that controller and the Sega one fit each other 🤯. A mid week drop and a comedy show tonight. Epic Wednesday!
I've never seen Destroyer before, looks like it would actually be a fun simple game. Red Baron looks pretty cool for that era. I'm kinda glad I waited to buy a physical release for Atari 50. The Steelbook release seems like a very good buy.
Atari Video Cube is a great puzzler. That and Red Baron are enough for me to buy this DLC. All the different versions of Berzerk and Frenzy are nice bonuses too.
I really wish they'd strike up a deal with Activision, to add many of the best games for this. Activision played such a huge roll in Atari's history that it always seems weird to not have any of it included. Pitfall!, Kaboom, Crackpots, Skiing, River Raid, Boxing, Barnstorming, and much more. Though I feel very much the same about many other games not included here. Games such as E.T., Pac-Man, Indiana Jones, Halloween, Superman, The Empire Strikes Back, Donkey Kong, and so on. They are such a huge part of its history.
Definitely need to pick this up, though that November DLC, and "The First Console War"... didn't Atari get the rights to the Intellivision catalog? I wonder if Atari is planning on including some Intellivision releases on that? Hmmm....it's just weird enough to work.

I hope so! Last time they released free updates which added new games over time, so maybe we’ll get more 7800 games in the future

Star Castle is not owned by Atari, and Star Wars is only partially owned by Atari. :)

1:27 some of my earliest flashes of life, the actual beginning of my existence included this wood paneled legend....being barely alive, Haunted House was my jam back then, my mom played pinball and that sound atrocious pac man game. I'm positive some of those sound effects made it into my first nightmares 😂😂😂....then when I got older and that controller and the Sega one fit each other 🤯. A mid week drop and a comedy show tonight. Epic Wednesday!

I've never seen Destroyer before, looks like it would actually be a fun simple game. Red Baron looks pretty cool for that era. I'm kinda glad I waited to buy a physical release for Atari 50. The Steelbook release seems like a very good buy.
Star Wars 1983 Pilot the X-Wing Fighter would of been an epic inclusion.
Atari Video Cube is a great puzzler. That and Red Baron are enough for me to buy this DLC. All the different versions of Berzerk and Frenzy are nice bonuses too.

Desert Falcon 7800 is awesome. If you got the right power ups The falcon gets super speed that takes you straight to the sphinx.

I really wish they'd strike up a deal with Activision, to add many of the best games for this. Activision played such a huge roll in Atari's history that it always seems weird to not have any of it included. Pitfall!, Kaboom, Crackpots, Skiing, River Raid, Boxing, Barnstorming, and much more. Though I feel very much the same about many other games not included here. Games such as E.T., Pac-Man, Indiana Jones, Halloween, Superman, The Empire Strikes Back, Donkey Kong, and so on. They are such a huge part of its history.

Definitely need to pick this up, though that November DLC, and "The First Console War"... didn't Atari get the rights to the Intellivision catalog? I wonder if Atari is planning on including some Intellivision releases on that? Hmmm....it's just weird enough to work.
