I went the Wingsoft direction, regretted it and invested in the Day-Long from Russell Products. Not inexpensive, but the most comfortable motorcycle seat I’ve owned in 50+ years of riding. I hope the seat is still working well for you. All the Best, James.

Hey Rick, great seat review. I definitely like the quality and style of the Mustang seat. Will be making a seat purchase decision in the coming months. Was going to get a Russell Day Long Seat, but had to pull back from making the purchase for awhile. I might mow be looking at the Mustang seat again. Ride safe!

if your anything like me, the decision to go after market seat is a big decision. I hear the RDL seats are really nice but the one thing that turned me off is you are recirculating your OEM seat pan. I will be doing a long term review of the Mustang seat in the near future as I have enough miles on the seat to make an informed opinion. Whichever way you go, it will be better than OEM.

I have a 2021 DCT Base model. I'm 5'6" and weigh 162lbs. With the stock seat and Utopia backrest I can ride a full tankful in comfort, (+/- 250 miles). I haven't yet taken a longer ride in one day...

I believe that the whole thing was cutting the weight out of the bike. So when you put aftermarket seats and back rest on your adding that weight back in. Just an observation. I ride a Vicrory cross country tour and I'm planning on getting a Gold Wing in the Spring.

I think you are right Robert. Just a little more weight to the passenger backrest has the trunk close with a different feel to it.
I rode a Victory Vegas for about 5 years. You will love the new wing.

Thanks Rick. Just got my 2019 GoldWing Tour Manual version. Looking hard at mustang because very familiar with the product. Russell Day long is in the hunt as well but not liking the lead time. Thanks again. I will hold out a bit more with the original seat with the air hawk as an aid for now.

Glad to shed some insight Kelvin, exactly why I did the video. I went from OEM, to OEM/air hawk, to Wing Soft, to biting the bullet for the Mustang. I get the Russell Day Long lead time thing. Kinda hard to give up your seat for any period of time. Luckily, CycleMax had it in stock and got it out to be within the week. Mustang is playing the COVID catchup right now. I'm just happy they are back to doing what they do.

Ride'n with Rick Rick copy all one last request what is the P/N you have that includes the heated seats. I’m coming up with P/N 79950 but not sure if the heat is included.

    • @ridenwithrick3771
      @ridenwithrick3771  4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@kelvingraham6798 p/n 79950 is the seat and p/n 79951 the passenger backrest. Both include heat and is controlled with the OEM controls. Just an FYI, there was an earlier model that Mustang came out with that had the heater controls on the side of the seat. That model has been deprecated.

Great vid Rick. I rode with the stock seat and utopia backrest for quite a while. I got used to it. I sent my seat to wingsoft and I hated it so I sold it. Bought a corbin and it was not for me. Bought an oem seat at a great deal and just ordered another utopia. I'm looking at the ultamate or the Mustang. Does your mustang sit you back a little or down a little? I rode upstate NY last Sunday and the oem with no backrest had my legs, arse and back killing me!
Keep the great vids coming please!!

      @ridenwithrick3771  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi Mike, first off, thank you for subscribing.
I followed the same path as you. Rode with the Utopia (still have it) and eventually sent the stock seat to Wingsoft. It was better but not much.
The Mustang allows you to sit down a tad over the wingsoft upgrade and the feeling of sitting back is only felt because you can plant your arse back in the bucket against the driver back portion more. Feels like its cut out more over the Wingsoft (and I had the driver back done as well on my Wingsoft upgrade).
Where the Mustang outshines the OEM seat or even the Wingsoft is that its firmer. The foam is much more supportive.
When riding long distance, such as my NY trip ride, the stock seat (or even wingsoft) would give up in supportiveness. Like it would feel as if there was no more seat left to sit on. Every ripple in the road would translate to pain in my back and arse. The Mustang does not give out. At the end of a 400 miler, it will still feel as supportive as it was on the first 50 miles. Do I still need to take breaks? Yes. Is the last 150 miles of a 400 miler more difficult than the first 200 miles? Yes.
Fact is, I can extend my riding almost two fold. 200 miles on the stock pan was an experience in pain. 400 miles is still painful but I rode 50% further.
Its a firm seat no question, but for me, its the firmness that translates to supportiveness. I'll say this too. I'm a 210 lb man and with the OEM, I would have to ride with the suspension at the 1 up plus luggage setting. Now I ride mostly in just 1 up. I may adjust the suspension to 1 up/luggage as the day goes on but for the most part, the Mustang allows me to ride comfortably in the 1 up setting (where it should be).
side note - unfortunately, one mans opinion about a seat might not be the same for another. Its a crap shoot. Some love the Wingsoft upgrade. I did as well because it was better than OEM. If I look back and compare the Mustang to the OEM, its a night and day change.

I'll add this too Mike. I live and ride mostly in PA. The roads here are bad, really bad. Crappy roads translate to pain no matter the seat your on. I would imagine upstate NY roads don't fair much better.
It really comes down to fine tuning the seat/suspension. And the roads you ride matter. Been thinking about the Traxxion suspension upgrade but I'm just not there yet in my head and $$ wise. The Mustang seat has staved off that itch for the time-being. An all day, 400 mile route is no big deal with the Mustang and the stock suspension. My knees give out before my back and arse do.

If your looking at a new GW just add $1500 plus to uour cost because you will not want to keep the stock seat.
Like he said, there is a difference in wanting to make a stop and having to.
Don't worry, if you ride over 100 miles you will know first hand.
    Guaranteed!
This is my last Honda. They blew it big time!

Rick, I have a 2018 Goldwing tour and I'm having the same issue with the seat. After about 2.5 hours I can't stand it anymore and I was wondering how has the Mustang seat held up for you and if you still recommend the seat because I have to do something about it soon. Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

    • @ridenwithrick3771

Hi Mario - I do really like the Mustang seat. Generally, I can ride all day without issue but that's subjective to the roads I am riding, wear on my tires, and what suspension load I choose. If I am on open highway for example and my tires are on the "newer" side of their life, I can ride for 200 miles easy without having to take a break and get off the bike. However, if I am riding on the backroads of Pennsylvania with the same tire wear and suspension load, I may have to get off the bike 3 times in that same 200 mile range. It all depends.
The OEM seat sucks, but so does the suspension IMHO. Add in worn tires and your not riding in comfort for very long. (no matter the seat you choose).
The Mustang seat offers a firm supportive ride but it doesn't solve the entire picture. I always felt as if the OEM seat lost its support by the end of the day where the Mustang does not. Also, the day I swapped out my old rubber for new, I doubled my riding distance.
If your comparing just the OEM seat to the Mustang, Its a night and day difference. But you need to factor in road conditions, tire wear, suspension settings, riding style, and amount of breaks along the way.
      ask yourself:
      1. How old are my tires?
      - after 9000 miles on my Dunlops, I could really feel the road underneath.
      2. How many breaks am I taking along the journey?
      - I force myself to get off the bike for a 10 minute stretch even though I am not fatigued. Especially early in the ride.
      3. What suspension setting am I riding?
      - I generally stiffen the suspension the longer the day goes on. Softer is not necessarily better.
      4. What am I wearing between my skin and my pants?
      - Yes, it very much matters.
      5. How many miles have I ridden in how many days?
      - if I am on a 4 day ride, I will not be able to ride as far and in as much comfort on day 4 as I did on day 1.
      6. Last, is my seat supportive throughout the entire seat pan?
      - That's what I like about the Mustang seat. Its supportive along the entire seat pan. No matter where you plant your caboose, it feels the same.
Sorry for the long response, but your question is subjective.

I agree honda seat is crap !! Wish I had saved the $400 wingsoft upgrade and invested in a mustang seat.

I hear ya. I had the wing soft done and I was still not happy. The OEM seat even with the upgrade loses its support overtime. The Mustang takes a long time to get (back logged) but it really is a nice addition to the bike. Firm yet forgiving.
