      How does PB make its money, how does it work? Does it encrypt the data, send it through one of PB's servers and to the target device once the user has clicked the notification?
      Info I like to know before I start sending data to who knows where... TIA It looks like a great app ;)

    Been using PB for quite some time and find it extremely useful. I use it for sending web-based articles that are hard to read on my smartphone to the Chrome browser on my laptop. I also like getting notifications on from my phone on my laptop, and lastly, respond to SMS messages right from my laptop.

    Hi Steve, another great video! I have been playing with PushBullet for a week or so, but didn't realize that you could push files as well as email!
    Quick question for you -- how do you do the screengrabs of your mobiles in real time the way that you do? Initially I thought that you were using some sort of iOS app, but since you are using a Galaxy Note Edge as well as the iPhone 6+ you have got me intrigued. I am still using a Note3 btw, and still love it, even after nearly two years.

      I'm not entirely sure what Pushbullet encrypts, I would say you should reach out to them and ask.

    Have you tried the MightyText app? Similarly, it allows you to send/receive texts, links, attachments from your desktop to your smart phone. I am going to check this out though.
    One thing I've been trying to figure out is mirroring any webpage to any device from my computer. I've attempted this with Windows 10 to my HiSense SmartTV but so far no luck. It would be great if I had the ability to wirelessly extend to my TV as another monitor!

    I might be missing something here, but wouldn't it be easier to upload a file to a cloud drive (One Drive, Google Drive, Box) and just have that particular cloud drive's app on all your devices?

    • @vypersoft1
      @vypersoft1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      capricorn83 Same thing I was thinking...I have photos going to Google Drive, I have my PDF scans going to Google Drive, I have....well you get the idea. All my devices access Google Drive so I may be missing the point.
      Update: I tried it today and found nothing really useful...the messaging notification on the PC turned out to be annoying the other features did nothing that I am not already doing with Google drive...its just not for me. For anyone not using cloud storage, it may be a good app to try out.

    • @chasharrison2483
      @chasharrison2483 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      capricorn83 Same here. I see this as cloud storage only with a little different way of approaching how you share. One disadvantage may be that unless a person has the app installed, you can't share with them. Whereas with Google drive it seems I am able to just create a link to share with anybody, even those without Google drive installed. I think I remember doing that.

    • @santosic
      @santosic 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Jim Haney Well, it really comes down to convenience: for instance, Pushbullet also supports sending links directly to your devices. On Chrome, you can even set it up so that pressing a key combination (for me its CTRL+S) immediately sends it to your mobile phone, where you can proceed to open it directly on your default mobile browser.
      The desktop version of Pushbullet has both a drag and drop file pushing system and a Windows Explorer "Send to (Device)" context menu. Both help send files to your mobile phone quickly and efficiently-- no need to manually upload and then manually download. I've done this with APK files I find on the web: After download, I right-click on the file, press "Send to Nexus 6" and two seconds later, I tap the pushbullet notification, and it's installing on my phone :)

    To send something from any devices to my Android mobile, I just have to send it an email through Gmail, without having to install any application. I have design a bookmarklet within Chrome to launch default mail form, filled with subject as page title, body selected page content followed by page link, then [Send], just to hear my mobile bing.

    • @peberdah
      @peberdah 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The content of the bookmarklet, that display preloaded mail form. You can edit further it to include image or attach file.
      javascript: m='mailto:?subject=Bookmark:'+document.title+'&body='+encodeURIComponent(window.getSelection()+"");m=m.substr(0,4000);m=m+' '+window.location.href; pop=window.open(m,"pop","toolbar=no,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,location=no,menubar=no,left=64,top=64,height=620,width=480"); exit;

  • @Stan_sprinkle
    @Stan_sprinkle 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Strictly for File Transfer, I think I prefer "Send-Anywhere". You can send more than one file at a time of any type or size, and it will automatically zip multiple files together... and you can push to your different multi-platform devices

    • @dottotech
      @dottotech  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      stan_sprinkle Thanks for the feedback, there is a slight difference as you still (I think) have to pull the files to your devices using other FTP apps, whereas PubsBullet pushes the file.

    • @Stan_sprinkle
      @Stan_sprinkle 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the beta version of Send Anywhere might have made you "confirm" on the receiving end, but the latest version lets you push to your registered devices (pretty sure). I'm quite sure if I push from iPhone to my computer, it just transfers... And multiple files at a time if you want instead of one at a time on Pushbullet. From the desktop to the phone, it think it also just pushes without needing to confirm but I might be wrong. Don't have my laptop with me now.

    • @dottotech
      @dottotech  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      stan_sprinkle Sounds like a pretty useful solution Stan, I will have a look at it!

    • @Stan_sprinkle
      @Stan_sprinkle 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh, one other big feature of send anywhere… On your Mac or Windows send anywhere application, you can expose "shared directories" to other devices under your account. This means you can be on your iPhone in literally browse the shared directory on your Mac from your phone to pull whatever files you want over. (maybe this exists on push bullet but I don't think so)
      all that said, I think push bullet has them beat on the notifications aspect, and the smoothness with which the files consistently transfer from device to device. Send anywhere is still working out some kinks. I think they only came out of their beta version about two months ago.

    • @dottotech
      @dottotech  9 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @puffdong
      @puffdong 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wow you clearly missed the point with pushbullet.
      Let me give you a quick scenario.
      You get a notification on you phone saying "Check out this article", it then pops up on your computer (the same as on your phone).
      You decide to click on it and it opens the article in your Web browser on your Pc (and dismisses the notification on your phone). And then you realize "NO I DON'T HAVE TIME TO READ THIS ARTICLE NOW I NEED TO GO TO WHATEVER PLACE WHICH IS NOT AT THE PC", so you click a little pushbullet icon on your browser and it's pushed back to your phone browser for later reading.

    Hello, Steve, and thanks for the video. This is another "theoretically useful but..." app for me.
    My particular beef is that I have an older HTC Desire S phone with Android v2.3.5 fitted, I can't upgrade it, and I have no pressing need to upgrade for work. I am managing OK so far with the features and functions I have, except for the pressure of apps that refuse to update because the latest versions (supposedly) "need" v4.
    PB isn't compatible with Android 2.3.5 although it's OK on my Samsung Galaxy Tab running Android 4.4.2. So the theory is fine, but the implementation isn't as good as appears on the surface because I can't actually connect all my devices.
    To broaden the comment a bit, what can a user do if they do not have the latest version OS? It takes money to keep up with the treadmill, and after 40 years in and around the computer industry, I am tired of the upgrade pressure (I don't get the same pressure to upgrade my car every year, by having the transmission stop working at the car-maker's command).
    It has been a feature (bug?) of the PC-era computing industry to keep pushing users to the next "level" at the behest of the industry, rather than allow users to drive innovation according to their own perceived needs.
    I want the industry to respect my limited funds, and my desire for managing the transition to newer features for myself, by keeping app versions capable of running on older OSs. A necessary factory reset on my phone recently cost me three apps which I could not reload.
    /rant but I trust that you pick up the valid point here.

      John Angelico I hear you John, but can offer little in the way of solice,
      The tech industry is racing ahead and no manufacturer can sit back and not try to constantly innovate. the bottom line is they are constantly feeding a new market, and don't have time to look back.
      Ironically the best company at honouring your investment is Apple,. You can still run most current apps on 3 year old phones......the Android world does not have Apple's focus coming from a single source.

    • @StephenAngelico
      @StephenAngelico 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      dottotech Why does the innovation have to be limited to the last two years of phones? PCs are generally supported in software for five years or more.

      Steve, I have been spoiled by some wonderful apps in the IBM OS/2 world. I had
      a) the same word processor for over 15 years - defeated only by colour and multi-function printers
      b) the same email program - regularly updated but with the most consistent and use-able interface I have used
      c) databases and spreadsheet programs with features only recently added to Excel
      all drawing from robust design principles which the developer community at the time managed to get right, and keep right.
      Backwards compatibility was almost automatic, and DLL Hell was unknown.
      (Sigh) nostalgia time over...
