I met Phil at an event in the British Club Singapore in 2006. I said 'I'm honoured to meet you Phil, I'm Mike and I'm from Swansea". He replied 'dont worry about it mun, you cant help that'
I was 13 when that try was scored and Phil was at his best, he became a boyhood hero and while I was born and lived in London I became a Wales fan. Absolute legend of the game... RIP Mr Bennett
Same here and I still get goosebumps every time I watch it. Fully deserving of the title "The Greatest Try Ever" and all started by Phil Bennett. RIP Phil, you were and always will be a legend.
Lucky to have met him a few times, lucky to have watched him play for Scarlets and Wales, and so glad we can still enjoy his fantastic footballing skills. RIP Phil- and thanks.
So sad that we've lost a true legend of the game, but lets just remember his outstanding talents as a player, also he played in some of the greatest Wales teams of all time who I grew up watching with great pleasure, so RIP Phil you'll be sorely missed.
We lament the loss of a legend, wonderful rugby player and an absolute gentleman. His legacy will live on forever in story. God Rest His Gentle Soul. Sympathy is tendered to his family and his beloved Scarlets.
It's very sad that he's no longer with us, and only weeks before he died he saw a statue of himself unveiled in his home village - a fitting tribute and one that moved him deeply at the end of his life. Rest in peace Phil, you were a great player and the friendliest of people.
And the best thing about this is the compliment he paid to John Pullin. In those days they played hard but had real respect for each other. So sad to see what rugby has become now. RIP Phil, a true rugby great.
Very of gracious of Phil to mention John pullin. After phils steps and Jpr taking the hit John pullin kept the ball alive. John actually had a good record against the all blacks winning four times. John pullin was a fine rugby player and a modest gentleman x twice a winner with the lions once with the barbarians and on tour in new Zealand as England captain.
It's the greatest try ever, but even if this not it's definitely very close.. what other try has ever been scored that a person steps like 5 people on his own try line, somehow got out of it and then set up a try like that.. also you have to remember it's against the all blacks..

Phil's right. The commentary is absolutely perfect.
'A dramatic start!.....What a score!'

RIP 'Benny'....met him once....a long time ago....always had time for fans of the game.
