- After scoring 40 goals in a NHL season earlier in his career, Alexander Semin's 5 year contract was bought out by the Carolina Hurricanes. Since then, Semin has all but disappeared off the mainstream hockey map. So, what happened to the Russian winger since he left the NHL? Watch to find out!

Semin was also one of the greatest NHL fighters of all time lol
He won 100% of his fights playing the bongos.
Chad B he'll slap u silly
Chad B that's is so true not even Jackie chan could take him
That's hilarious!!!
fucking well played, did you see the sync up with "in the air tonight"?
Semin's lack of loyalty, commitment to the game, his injuries, and his desire for money are what derailed his career
what about his fighting skills?
clawsss bro his fighting skills are amazing, I don’t know what you’re talking about. Literally playing bongos on Staal
Sadly....reminds me a lot of myself as a player....plus wrist injuries to top it off....still...he wad worth having on your team. If he was more committed he could have been a weapon to this day in the NHL with a shot like he had. And offensive iq with patience and his improvising to make some magic happen to get a goal...or a few.
Yes
You should do Maxim Afenigenov
This 100%
He was a goat in Buffalo
He was (is?) Pacioretty's wife's brother
YoSami yes
Bongo drums was literally my best memory of this guy, and I'm a caps fan. He would literally disappear in the post season.
"What’s so special about Crosby? I don’t see anything special there. Yes, he does skate well, has a good head, good pass. But there’s nothing else."
- Alex Semin
Oh how naive XD
This is why us Caps fans hated him. That and it seemed to be his life's mission to get Ovi as drunk as possible so hed park Zambonis in the Yacht Basin.
Crosby is trash he’s not wrong
You should do Mike Richards, Jonathan Cheechoo, David Booth, Scott Gomez, Martin Havlat, Marc Savard, and Mike Riberio.
Ribeiro is easy, just go to your local casino. You'll find him there, under a table, passed out.
Havlat had been dealing with injuries pretty much throughout his career, aside from one season with Cicago he never played a full season; those injuries caught up with him in his 30s, his play declined, he even played one season back home in the Czech Rep. but it wasnt to be; the shoulder injuries probably hurt his career the most
Scott Gomez is a god up here in Alaska. I really wish his career was longer
Tyler Boyd mike Ribeiro did coke too many times to play hockey
Mat Cooke is what happened to savard
Remember when Semin said he saw nothing special about Sidney Crosby?
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Whatever happened to al bundy? He scored four touchdowns in one game....
Whatever happened to?
Nikolai Antropov
I've met him. He's a really nice guy. Got an autograph as well.
He's still playing, but at the speed he moves he hasn't made it from the dressing room to the ice yet.
He made the Kazakhstan Olympic Team
A British guy doing hockey videos?
That's right! Not something you see everyday eh? :D
Rachel?
THEY NOW HAVE A CUP!! Without semin!! GO CAPS
Yea YEARS after😑
Whatever happened to Miroslav Satan
Nicholas Alzugaray he's in hell now lol
He got old and retired
Whatever happened to ben scrivens
KHL.
Do whatever happened to viktor fasth
life in the Fasth lane!
Ah c'mon he wasn't THAT quick XD
2010 loss vs habs was the end of the big 3, ovi, semin and backstrom were never the same
Can you do: “Whatever happened to Mike Richards?”
we know what happened to him...
Whatever happened to... Jonathon Cheechoo
FeelsBadMan
The untalented Jagr of Russia
Untalented? He had an insane shot and IQ on offense. Was just a little lazy. Didnt use his talent all the time. His shot was nasty
He had the talent and skill to be one of the greatest of all time. He just didn't care.
Reminds me of me in high school. Obviously not as good as Semim but. Talent with too much pride and ego and misguided character to only use his talent when he felt like it. So yeah...i guess you can generalize and chop it up to he didnt care enough. Had other focuses. Was foo lazy on defense like myself. Held me back as a player too....
Semin is actually killing it as captain of Vityaz.
And they're on the top of the KHL. Yes, the same Vityaz that a lot of KHL fans hate.
2008 Vityaz was the best
Changed his name to slappy the clown and is a circus performer
Whatever happened to Ville Leino? Or Mike Richards? Btw great video!
@John Sabp yeah he owns finlands biggest clothing brand bille beino
It was painful following him his last nhl years. He had one of the best wrist shots in the NHL for sure and ironically he got his wrist injured several times back to back
Also his game slowed down after the injuries for some reason.
Really liked this video, very informative and you did a nice job pronouncing those russian names
Thanks buddy, glad you enjoyed! The Russian names certainly took some practice before I recorded to make sure I said them right! :D
@@OddManRush The only thing off that I noticed was Gagarin, but that was so trivial.
Just discovered your channel a few days ago, when I saw this series I figured Semin would've been done already since he fits the format so well.
Well he’s been done now! :D Thanks for watching :)
Odd Man Rush yeah, thanks for making good nhl content, refreshing to see something other than exclusively pack openings.
Shad Liuzzo haha, I do the occasional pack opening, but these kinda videos are alot more interesting to write/create! :D
Odd Man Rush Oh yeah, I saw, my point is that you don't rely on the packs for content like quite a few of the other nhl content creators.
Alexander Semin is the definition of a career journeyman
I don't think you know what a journeyman is.
He was mini ovi
I wish we saw some highlights in this video because Semin was an absolute beaut all of his goals were so damn pretty I wish he kept trying when he was with the caps I highly recommend looking up some highlights if you haven’t seen them
Syomin is how it is spelled in Russia?
Indeed it is! I go for the ‘Western’ spelling because it’s more recognisable :)
Odd Man Rush yeah I wasn’t criticizing you for using it that way. I had no idea that is how westerners spelt it. Why do we spell it differently?
Bdots44 In the Cyrillic alphabet, there's a letter ё. Phonetically, ё is pronounced like "yo". His last name is spelled Сёмин, so accents/dialects aside, Syoh-meen or Syoh-min is how you'd expect to pronounce it. But when he got to the States, we looked at ё and saw an e and we just ran with it and wrote SEMIN on the back of his jersey.
yesss ive been waiting for this one.
Do Mika kiprusoff idk if that’s how u spell it but he used to be good and then just disappeared
Kiprusoff retired in 2013, prematurely, to spend time with his family essentially. Very fitting, he was incredibly humble during his career. it was big news in calgary at the time tho
Yea i really liked kiprusoff
Most people wish Morgan Freeman would read their eulogy. I want the guy who narrates this.
Can you do whatever happened to Ben Eager?
Whatever happened to Marc Denis
I thought it was pronounced like semen
Semin was one of my favorite players growing up...everytime i brought him up somebody always had to say that lol
Its syomin
Whatever happened to Alexei Yashin
greed
The Epic Fail of the Islanders
I think Semin had talent to be a star but didn't truly enjoy the game enough to put his all into every game.
He always had Semin on his jersey 🥁
my favourite player of all time, i love this insane guy
"Whhoo go blue shirts" said odd man rush who loves the New York Rangers
I was wondering when you would get to the drums.....lol
Do Fernando Pisani.. remember his cup run?
Whatever happened to odd man rush??? You used to be cool man, what happened???(please respond as if this was aserious question... But I love you!!!)
Sounded too much like Semen.
what happened to Stephen Weiss
He came, he saw, he came
Are you a Rangers fan?!
Just when I was about to complain that you didn't mention the slap fight...... you totally redeemed yourself!!
So you're a Ranger fan huh? AWESOME! LETS GO RANGERS!!!
LGR!
Don't forget how lethal he is when he drops the gloves!!! You could die laughing!!!
A little disappointed you didn't touch on the controversy with his team mates. But good video overall
As a canes fan I can say semin is not worth 7 mil, If he had the work ethic to be consistant he would be. But he is just to unreliable
Hehe Semin hehe
SEMIN IS AND WAS AMAZING PLAYER LIKE JASHIN. KOVALEV. AND MALKIN
4:46 ♪ノ♪
is he tghat cheap to wear his MTL pants under his shell lol
With a name like semin you’d think it would be hard to foreget him. --
Best wrist shot ever
Meh. Ovi's is better.
What happened to Mike Richards?
This sounds like Daz
Well this year is the exception as the caps " slay the dragon "
What ever happened to felix potvin
Random stint in Boston as the backup to Raycroft. No, I’m not kidding. NHL 06 was a weird game.
@@PlooshYT best game
How about that caps stably cup tho ayeeee
not bad stats this year: 51 19 20 39
I wish Semin had done better for the Montreal Canadiens....
Same
Forgot about this dude
Tim Thomas?
Haha! That fight! I never saw it.
Do Brian Gionta
Great vid
Is there any chance you could do a, whatever happened to Mario Lemieux? I'm a fan of the penguins but most do not know the history behind him because some has been suppressed. Being a penguins fan I know a lot more than most as Pittsburgh has announced anything about him for years. So what do you think about it?
Jonathon Renaud, he owns the Penguins
Pat Twiss, and the city of Pittsburgh pretty much.
Do Maxim Afinogenov
lazy, thats what happened
however
he will never play another game in the nhl
I forgot about that fight 😂😂
You need to do one on David Booth
Mike Richards
Semin was so bad for the Habs that I had forgotten he even played for them.
This was nostalgic
Maxime Lappière
LETS GOOOOO
Yeah great Video
Great series
whatever happened to Max Lapierre?
Khl
You can drop the phony accent.
You're Canadian. Nobody else cares about this kind of stuff, certainly not a Brit!
I'm sure a real Brit could chime in and confirm your accent does not exist in any region and is a mish mash of accents you heard on TV.
Milan Michalek plz
repeated knee injuries and then Toronto kinda dumped him like they do
Do one on Rick DiPietro?
Done
I'm curious to know why you do that greeting bit at the beginning? Do people enjoy it?
Lmao
In my opinion, Semin was mostly a byproduct of playing next to Ovechkin
Total BS!
In there young days both played LW.
While Ovie had Backström to work with, Semin had Laich.
As both had the tendency to take long shifts, the caps decided to put them on opposite wings. As Semin was skillwise a more rounded player, he was more suited to play his natural side as a rightie, instead of a pure off-wing shooter.
Even then, most of the time they played on different lines, especially with Fedorov around.
When they combined for the utterly spectacular SOB line, the game normally went through Backstrom and Semin, who both had the love for finesse and creativity, and where natural fits in constructing offense, while Ovie was more the physical, volume shooting complementary player... an insainely good complementary player of course.
Love these vids, but only one problem: KHL is shit league, please stop saying it's best league in europe...
This is boring
Thanks for the feedback :)
