Looks like Faust's own magic disfigures his body and twists his mind. This might actually explain many things in his lore, including his unique physique and crime record.
We know it also was stated Faust had a split personality as Dr. Baldhead as well in his lore so his own magic can be a good basis to that in top of what it's done to him here in Strive.

Jokes aside, in the story Ram literally tell Faust that his redemption arc is stupid and need to move on. So Faust tried to go back to "square one" to find his "original purpose" for being a doctor. And this is the result that came out, we don't know if it's good for Faust or not.
I would contest that Ramlethal did not "literally" say that at all, and I also interpreted it differently. She criticized Faust's undefined, and therefore unobtainable terms in his life of atonement, especially considering his atonement's motive in a reckless plan that not only did not account for his own survival, but anyone else's life on that mission, save for Delilah.
I think Ram's inexperience and naivety plays a role in this interaction. She never knew him as Dr. Baldhead, and has yet to learn how emotionally and mentally volatile a human person can be, belying how level-headed Faust generally is. Additionally, while she is now more inclined to view strangers as potential allies rather than potential enemies, her primary considerations about others in decision-making is still power -- And on the contrary, while she intuits that Faust has generally one criterion in how he chooses; a one-dimensionality she has matured out of -- Faust thinks only of how to help the next person he lays eye on (notice his intense gaze out the window).
To Ramlethal, Faust's original and principle strength is as an "expert in applied magic". He "does not recall" this, because his accomplishment in that field belongs to his dark past, forgotten in his psychogenic fugue of his own murders, his magical ability now degenerated into the subliminal, as reactive and impulsive cantrips of self-deprecating whimsy.
To Faust, he only values himself insofar as he is faithful to his primary vow as a doctor of medicine, which is most likely the Hippocratic Oath, often summed as: "Do No Harm".
Unbeknownst to Ram, while she intentionally called Faust self-centered, "looking to die a hero's death", has also inadvertently accused him, despite all his reaffirmed resolution and sleepless struggle, of continuing to break his Hippocratic Oath.
And by recalling and applying all of his magical ability, he releases all of his suppressed memories and turmoil with it, and at the worst possible moment: when his lifelong purpose that he has dedicated himself to, his "square one", is put into question.
A 9'4" tall surgeon who could have once been the pinnacle of physical constitution, who has given every ounce of himself until he has wasted away to the bone, who became an instrument of reconciliation and recovery in virtually every other characters life -- Faust is defenseless against the descending dusk of despair.
The way I'm interpreting Faust's condition is, now that he's looked his inner demons in the eye, he's locked in a final, mental and spiritual combat with Dr. Baldhead, and only his basest killer instincts and practiced responses as a medical practitioner have agency over his body.

I believe that Faust was battling his inner demons DURING the whole ordeal and not AFTER he exhausted his magic, constantly straining to remain focused on his original purpose for becoming a doctor, which involved confronting his past memories and actions DIRECTLY. And THAT'S why he was able to release such incredible power. He held all this guilt, regret, self hatred, and emotional baggage for so long and now he's finally let it all go. And this time, he DID save the girl.
The way he chuckles slightly before the whole soul gag reminds me more of someone who's relieved and at peace. Plus there's arcade mode afterwards where he tells Ram that he'll save himself as he found his answer. Rather than another inner battle about to take place, his past and present selves are now FINALLY starting to work together toward a path of self healing and growth.
But for now, though, Faust needs a goddamn NAP and about a baker's dozen of donuts.

I think the good doctor spent a bit more than just his meter...
It looks like he goes through partial spaghettification just from channeling the comically large door but what does his soul leaving his body mean?? Is it just a comedic moment or is he actually dead and the playable Faust is a shell of his old body?
I’m pretty sure you’re right on the money
Faust used to be more of a happy comedic character just like you see him in this story, but Strive's redesign turned him more into a dark comedic character, you can see it in his interactions, the story explains how that happened.
Edit: Faust eye didn't used to glow, only on rare ocasions where he would do special attacks, now his eye glows red faintly all of the time.
I think it's just that the sheer exertion caused him to fry his brain and that silluette was just the representation of his higher brain function.
It would be very weird that we're playing faust's body since his draw animations shows his soul leaving his body then a mini faust putting it back in

When I saw the Faust design for Strive, I got the impression that he's some kind of undead. Funny that might actually be the case
I think he basically went through something similar as Kamille from Gundam Zeta where his soul is basically separated from his body to an extent as a result of how much strain he put on his body and mind.
Except Kamille didn't actually lose anything. He was mindfucked and went into a quasi braindead state. Faust here pretty much fried his own mind possibly permanently
@@uandresbrito5685 I feel like being quasi braindead can be defined as a form of losing something, either way I mean like his soul is separated from his body but still loosely linked to it in a similar way to Kamille since Kamille's soul was just kinda fractured and wandering about space. Of course we may not know for sure in Faust's case until he gets more story, that's just my current interpretation until new lore drops.

@@uandresbrito5685 If Faust wasn't so magically inclined, he'd probably BE brain dead. As it stands, his body is little more than a puppet being driven by what remains of his mind and being powered by magic. Faust could return to his body, yes. But in the interim, the keepers of thr peace have to deal with essentially a teleporting magic zombie that thinks its a doctor.

I think that Faust extend so much energy out of his body, that it literally made him brain dead.

Granted, he can still do things like attack and recognize people, but he has trouble making full
sentences and limbs around when walking. Like as if he is exhausted all of the time.
The way Faust looked at his now extended fingers definitely explains alot of his overused magic

I like to think that the reason Faust went to such an extent to save Delilah is that the situation reminded him too much of the girl that he failed to save that was in his care, and he refused to let it happen again

I wonder if what happened to Faust is a permanent change, or if he can recover from it eventually? I don't think he's dead (given how he's always been cartoony even in cutscenes), but I gotta wonder if he'll always be like this from here on out.

i think it's very possibly just comedic effect, but the person that faust was definitely left him. the soul i think represents the angelic idealized previous version of himself that was so guilt-ridden and obsessed with atonement that he lost focus on what was truly important to him. so after his talk with ramlethal, he realized that sacrificing himself to save delilah for his idea of atonement would mean going back on his oath to heal and save those in need for as long as he can. abandoning his desire for atonement, he chose to go back to square one, helping and treating others first and foremost. but he went back too far, overexerting his magic, and deforming his body, possibly clinging to life, as his body absorbed far too much magic than a normal human can withstand in the guilty gear universe. he may even be suffering amnesia, going on his interactions and strange speech patterns. in a way, he both saved delilah, and died a hero, obtaining his percieved atonement and sacrificing his health regardless. letting go of traumatic events of the past and moving on seemed to be a major theme in this story overall.
So that's the reason he's nerfed hard in Strive

SHIT ATTACKING FROM THE OTHER SIDE, YUCK
I wanted to make an epic story for the after events of this so here I go I guess. (The implications of this story mean that this takes place at the end of strive’s story line though it may not be chronologically correct)
After making sure that Delilah was okay and with a trusted person, with everybody surrounding Delilah doing the same, May wondered where Faust was so she looked around asking where he was and nobody seemed to know properly. After a while May got back on the ship to look for him, she looked in every room. the engine room? Not there. Boiler room? Nope, not there. Maybe the bathroom? He’s not there either. With every step she gets more and more curious where he is and assumed he left to help some more people, Faust IS a doctor after all. Checking with everyone once more, she decided that it’s probably not that big of a problem to she went back to the top of the ship to make sure nothing was left there, as she makes her way to the back of the ship to get on the ladder to get up there since it was the closest way to get up she hears some shuffling. Raccoons? The ship’s to big it would take too long for the to make it up there with the allotted time. The crew getting back on board? To far away. Maybe they’re already inside. No, there’s no reason for them to be on this area of the ship. Eh, it was probably nothing. As she gets to the top she sees Faust. Standing there. With his one glowing hole in his paper bag. Shadow coating his figure, may hops in excitement and runs over to Faust! Only for him to not react? Not a shred of happiness to see someone up there to presumably check on him after the big day. not only is there no glee on his face. There’s no sadness, anger, sorrow, nothing. Like talking to a stone statue. May attempts to get his attention but it’s like trying to get the attention of bowl of cereal. Nothings there. He’s still ever so slightly moving. Maybe he fell asleep standing up from for tired he was. But stress filled every breath he took. May tries to shake him to get his attention. Not a twitch. Then a small sewn together plushie crawls out from his shirt. Then another. And another. Worry shrouds their paper bag faces, shaking Faust with all their might trying to get him to presumably wake up from SOMETHING. Nothing. Not a budge. Nothing at all. One of the small sewn together, plushies finally notice May and cautiously approaches her. The other plushies haven’t yet noticed May so it waddles very slowly yet surely towards her and may tries to take a step towards the worried toy and the being takes several steps back in fear. It then seems to take a deep breath and starts stepping towards May. As it makes it to May it tugs on her leg, looks up with worry tries to signal to her with pointing and babbling that she NEEDS to try and wake Faust from his seemingly catatonic state! May tried previously and she tries again! With all her inhuman might she tries to even nudge Faust SOMEWHERE and she can’t even make a finger move! By this time the other Faust looking plushies have noticed her and tug with her. With ALL they can they try their best, and nothing works. More and more mini Fausts pop out from Faust’s shirt and try helping and nothing works. May leaves and gets everybody else to try helping, bullets, magic and swords of all kinds bounce off him like attacks from a rubber hammer! Nothing works on even making him flinch! Faust then raises a hand and points at everybody. All the mini plushies then seem to line up next to Faust. With shuddering in his speech with a warmth not like any other, Faust utters his final words. “May my spirit be with you all and my creations closer, these little plushies are mine, as I am dead they will be yours. Jonny, May, others of the crew my little friends are now your loyal companions, they know not much of this world so you may teach them with your heart and soul for my own will be with you. They do not yet utter a word but they are pure and lovable creations of mine that you now shall be yours. They shall be chaotic at times but impossibly trust worthy. when they make a promise they will keep it. They are the mini Fausts and they will be by your side for as long as you all live. Is but one thing about them. When medicinal help is needed they will show. They will not help in harm but will help where else needed. Good bye and thank you. Thank you all.” As Faust rushes to hug everyone there with his arms there are here to welcome him as he utters one last final phrase. “Thank you” he then fades to dust scattering in the wind. With his paper bag, scalpel, being the only thing left behind, his shinning eye socket glow fades to black.

So what does this mean now with what's happened to him in this story? Is he gone? His husk now a vegetable state and is Baldhead in control of it? Has he found peace? When I saw the story, it felt like he finally let himself be free of the guilt of the lost patient and his past murderous ways after to pass on because listening to his theme tells a tale of someone suffering. But I'd like to get opinions on this because I found his lore to be rather tragic as a once renowned doctor turned psycho after a botched surgery unbeknownst to him was a an assassination done through the Assassin's Guild by his fellow peers to a doctor willing to do anything in his power to help people regardless of his life being on the line.

In a sense yes, my interpretation is what left his body is supposed to be his "soul" but while being just a comedic effect it's also symbolic, basically old or rather "new" Faust died and he returned to square one as he says himself, so in my opinion he suffered lots of damage and his strive state is him recovering but might be his new persona as well, either way if he recovers or not Faust we know and love indeed died here to save everyone and will never be the same again
