I played this with a nephew when the game first came out and he mentioned it recently. He wondered why I didn't keep it (I gave it to him actually when he was still very young, lol.). Just received a complete copy from Amazon, purchased at a premium price. We will be playing it together again the next time we get together.
Worked for me, Half my first empire army was made of from my Battlemaster minis and after a 10 year brake I'm still collecting GW today. I don't know if its because I live in the states and actually grew up in a town with a Milton BRadley factory but it was pretty common when I was a kid.
I believe there was a bit of a misplay in the start. Okay so the thing about the Ogre, from what I recall playing this as a kid with my dad. Is that he's this unruly beast you don't really control that well. When a Move card comes up he has to move you can't not move him. And if an attack card comes up and there's anything next to them him he has to attack it, that includes your own units. Kind of like how the cannon can hurt your own units too whenever it shoots over them. 3:26 So he should have slapped both your guys hitting your Wolfriders twice and kept moving at the crossroads.

I glued everything in and bought some magnets to magnetise the banners, so they don't break off (but haven't done all banners yet). I remembered how the flags were the one thing always breaking off and my copy is still in perfect condition. Want to keep it that way. I also got the expansions. I implore you guys to make another battle report! Pleeaase :D And with expansions this time. That's 3 (THREE) ogres and two cannons! I had great fun watching this.

We changed the rules a bit. Every unit (without ranged units, here standard rules apply) could do up to two actions (move and/or attack, no moving after attacking, exception: wolf rider and cavalry special cards) and movement cards were split each player hold 3 cards in hand of which he could play one per turn and would draw another one on finishing the turn. Turn wise movement was guaranteed.
"You know what? This is better than Warhammer Fantasy Battle!" Now I think I know why support for this game was discontinued. I'd like to play it myself too, one day...

Fix we used years ago to counter the random activations. Deal 3 cards to each player from the shared deck. Players then alternate playing one from their hand. Means there are options to pick own or opponent units to activate and when. Also, ogre cards MUST be played if 2 or more were in hand and artillery performance is improved if several played at once. At least that's how we played it before - I vaguely remember. Alternatively, split the deck by faction and reshuffle every 10 rounds or so. Then play cards from hand alternating impulses. Thats the great thing about physical boardgames, don't like something... Change it!!
An epic game. I have everything except the box (I'm still sad about that). I have played with the oirginal instructions many times during the years, mostly with children, but in many games we changed the instuctions, turn based dividing the armies in segments of units (orcs, cavalry, archers, etc), also adding units and other features. One time 15 people played the game, In truth, 14 children plus me coordinating and moving the evil army (with only two assistants), with Little Ponny toys for the girls characters and fisher price giants for kids generals. The versatility of ths game is wonderful. Your battle was fantastic, fast pased and with emotion. Incredible how you lost the tower, I didn't see that coming!
@@EsotericOrderGamers Dude... i was totally wrecking my entire neighbourhood at this game when i was a teen :D . But seriously there was a Campaign booklet and it has more strategy elements than you give it credit for. The amount of activations in the deck is not random and you can seriously play around that. Think, first half of the stack careful positioning, second half (as the possible combination of cards get smaller) aggressive/defensive play. Also just sticking the cannon in front was just rookie play for example :D . It's defo not Warmachine but it had strategy ;) .

The real reason that GW had this pulled was that Warhammer players where buying this to fill up their armies. Still today the value here is stupid. I have four or five sets. Can't get enough. Soon my plans of world domination will be complete. Muhuhahaha!
@@EsotericOrderGamers They are a good basic mini. Easy to identify and not in a ridiculous pose. They work for many games and i gave up on GW chamging the rules to make more money years ago. Lol. A goog game does not go bad over time because they say so. And who don't want to load the field with hords of chaos? These are a cheap way to army build for anyone. And if i want to introduce someone new to the game i already have an army for them and their friends to play. So many reasons for owning several sets. Ever try to survive a Hero Quest level with 24 or more chaos warriors? Total carnage.

I have this game and I think what hurt it was the size of the board. You either needed a really big table or a floor to play on.
I think it was probably designed for kids to play on the floor. Our old-ish backs can't take that though!

Did your archers in the castle have a bonus die? If I recall, ranged units in the castle have an advantage.

They're from CMON, originally made for Wrath of Kings, but they then appeared in some of their other games along with the little tentacle markers.
