I think I might be tempted to only run the one Chrome Mox in such a deck, you can then fetch it off of Urza's Saga to have a "permanent" mana source and if you draw it early then it would be a very nice accelerant.
I think I made this same comment on Steve's first video haha. Playing one seems correct. Solitude, white card, white card, Saga and Ancient Tomb is definitely a keepable hand when you have to mulligan to 5. Fetching white would be great
@charlessmith208 No, as a one of, I think it does the opposite. I think you're just as likely to use it to hard cast a Solitude, saving a card AND getting a body, than you are pitchcasting both mox and Solitude in the same game. It IS a one-of that can be tutored turn 3/4 with Saga. And if you're in a very fast combo matchup, it is fine pitchcasting everything to get a lock piece down asap.

Phil, you've made this mistake in several videos. It That Heralds the End doesn't reduce the cost of Reality Smasher. It only discounts things that cost 7+. Not that that would necessarily change any plays from R2G1 given how white starved your hand was.
In Legacy. Brian’s gotten a bunch of sick blowouts with it in Vintage, IIRC early in white initiative’s lifecycle in that format he Mindbroke a turn one Dungeoneer off Cavern
what is the upside of playing eagles over the 3 damage MDFC lands, actually? like - the deck is monowhite, so the possibility of fetching white duals doesn’t matter, so it’s just a mana for a plains - the card in the graveyard… doesn’t do much? - the body is not more castable than the front faces of the MH3 MDFCs, right? - the MDFCs pitch to solitude just as well as eagles - the shuffle after the search is not super relevant without blue cantrips in the deck on the plus side for eagles, you get - marginal amount of thinning - lands that don’t get blown up by wasteland however, on the side of the MDFCs - they are actually initial mana sources - if you need mana sources you can pay 3 life for the land instead of losing a mana to plainscycle (like, plains+mdfc can play 3 mana of cards by t3, but plains+eagles only gets 2 mana of spells, since 1 mana needs to be spent to cycle eagles)
On the one hand, i really want to put urza's saga into my Tameshi brawl deck. On the other hand, im really glad I dont have to worry about urza's saga in brawl.
1:02:00 you can't activate it bc you got pithing needle'd (if I am allowed to use that as a verb) EDIT: nvm, I was too impatient :D you got it yourself, as you always do, sorry =3
I really wanna see you pilot a new eldrazi colorless deck. Been playing with them on Arena but timeless there is missing the powerful sol lands, so playing some of the bigger stuff in a competitive way isn't really viable, without going into colored ramp like Flare and green one drops, or some devotion/leyline strategy which isn't as reliable but can be explosive.
This looks like a well balanced decklist. It is a tiny bit greedy playing the 3rd Seasoned Dungeoneer in the maindeck. Cutting the 3rd Seasoned Dungeoneer for a 4th Ethersworn Cannonist or a maindeck Pithing Needle might be the mathematical call, although if the initiative is usually a win against this field it might be fine.
Maybe go down to 1 or 0 Seasoned Dungeoneer play Palace Jailer instead? Maybe I'm oldschool, but I also like to play 1 Mangara of Corondor in my Karakas decklists.
58:24 "New BG land that combos with dark depths but is a bit expensive" I looked at scryfall for recently released lands. Shifting Woodland is a green land that can become a copy of a dark depths in a graveyard? Talon Gates of Madara is a colorless land but sometimes sees play in dark depths because it's an untapped Sejiri Steppe with extra text Besides from that, idk what exactly you could be referring to. The new things seem to be disrupter's flute, lumbering megasloth, legolas' quick reflexes, echoing deeps, and sometimes Invasion of Ikoria because it combos with Hexmage in two different ways. You also saw mutated cultist, and that card is really cool in there. Do you think it was one of these?
I think he's referring to Shifting Woodlands. It got a lot of hype for Dark Depths decks prior to release. It can insulate against Wasteland and there are some cool instant speed tricks with it. I haven't seen it played much, though. I wonder if it comes into play tapped too often? Or maybe it costs too much for the turbo lands decks?
@@derekcline950 It only costs one more than thespian stage because it can tap for the mana you pay with it. Delirium is slow with it, though. I think it's good as a 1 of. You're probably right, though. I'm a legacy player, and not a modern player, but for card evaluations I mostly watched Aspiring Spike, because he really went into extreme detail for pretty much every card spoiled. So I didn't really hear much about dark depths all spoiler season.
@tuesday3477 Ah, the Delirium restriction makes sense. Land is easy. Manabond and Plow/Crop Rot are two more types. And.... I can't see Lands fitting in artifact lands or Mishras Bauble. Vexing Bauble can put itself into the graveyard but lands actually doesn't care about free spells too often, no? Plus, you don't play many creatures and you don't want them in the graveyard. I'm not a lands player but I can see it being hard to build a Lands deck to consistently get Delirium
@@derekcline950 I agree with all these points. It is worth considering that delirium gets easier with Invasion of Ikoria, but it seems slow and inconsistent. Woodland can instantly combo, so more powerful than cards like echoing deeps, but it is also harder and requires more hoops than deeps. Maybe it's possible, and the card IS powerful, but it might not be the right home or might need more tuning. The artifact I think of is expedition map, which becomes better with saga, which is also two types, but also map is just so slow for what's supposed to be a turbo deck. Maybe there's some niche for it in some other deck. I'm not a lands player either. I'm a control player, a prison player, and a breakfast player.
I love to see d&t making a comeback on the channel. It really shows that no matter what new cards get printed there’s always a bit of the same
mostly cause its only creatures that get truly powercrept. old "spells" were a different breed

Phil, have you tried being more lucky?
It that Heralds the End does not reduce Reality Smasher! Only for colorless creatures CMC 7 or more 17:05
So, after that first set of games, I think you should go down on Ancient Tombs... say, from 12 to 4 or something. #BadDraws

I think solitude belongs in the deck, I don't think aether vial belongs in the deck. This seems like mono white initiative with stoneforge.
I have a similar UB Scam Frog deck in Timeless. The round 3 showing makes me realize how much it wants wasteland

Aven Interrupter is backbreaking with Archon/RoL effects the second white pip can be tough though.
Hey Phil, met you in the ATL area when you came to the Boil, wishing you safe travels and a fun time back in home turf!
I hate to say it, but I wonder if this deck just needs eagle of the north to help shore up the mana.
what is the upside of playing eagles over the 3 damage MDFC lands, actually?
like
- the deck is monowhite, so the possibility of fetching white duals doesn’t matter, so it’s just a mana for a plains
- the card in the graveyard… doesn’t do much?
- the body is not more castable than the front faces of the MH3 MDFCs, right?
- the MDFCs pitch to solitude just as well as eagles
- the shuffle after the search is not super relevant without blue cantrips in the deck
on the plus side for eagles, you get
- marginal amount of thinning
- lands that don’t get blown up by wasteland
however, on the side of the MDFCs
- they are actually initial mana sources
- if you need mana sources you can pay 3 life for the land instead of losing a mana to plainscycle

I just don't think Aether vial is viable anymore.
It's still strong, but it's too slow and dead AF if not in your opening.
Loved this one
apparently aether vial is too slow to hang anymore :(
I feel like Solitude goes out for Staff of the Storyteller. Both of your Stoneforge targets trigger it.
This new set means new ways to make the D&T comeback. Nihil sub sole novum.

Yes. I wanted to take the initiative in combat, and then advance again by playing Dungeoneer.

No. The copies are not cast.
Why no Eagles of the North? 😂
I think the biggest problem with the deck is that youre running 8 copies of ancient tomb (or it certainly seems like you are with how many you drew)
this deck is trying to make its name death and sadness instead of death and taxes
Aether Vial seems pretty awful. Definitely would have been my first cut.
