aspiring spike has a GW birthing ritual list using eternal witness and ephemerate as the pseudo thassa. removing the blue gives you recruiter of the guard, white orchid phantom (+ flagstones of trokair), and solitude scam with ephemerate.
It's often better to put the birthing ritual trigger to resolve before ocelot pride so if you hit a creature that makes a token (or sacrifice a voice) it can get doubled by the pride trigger.
Agree with your pregame concerns about going Bant to include Blue cards... I'd like to see a version of this that is just Green/White (and go up on White removal like Paths and Solitudes).
1:14:10 Ordering the Birthing Ritual and Ocelot Pride may have been better the other way as you already had a cat token to ensure you had fodder for a 1 drop, but sacrificing the Voice of Resurgence first before the Pride trigger would have yielded another giant token, if we wanted to play that optimally.
If blue gets cut, an option for reducing the curve is cutting the Witch Enchanters for 2-drops and exchange the Aether Channelers for Knight of Autumns. That way the enchantment removal is kept, a source of lifegain is added, and they have the option of just being 4 power. And, while I don't know what should be used to expand the two-drop slot, Essence Channeler is certainly a funny option.
I think there was an option on match 1 game 2 where you played the endurance. You could have dropped luminous, see what you get off ritual, if nothing good you always have the option to block but then the evokes endurance would come back with flying! There was a very real chance that could have stabilized the board, then you start gaining life and drawing cards
I'm really surprised there's no Cloudblazer or even Mulldrifter in the deck, given that you're in blue already. And then fill out some more 4 CMC slots with a few Enduring Curiosity, maybe a Beza at the price of the Coatl
Before watching: I think this deck is too cute with its engines and should stay leaner and more interactive. And, out should play more cards like guide/pride that are standalone good cards
Great video as always, do you think Breeding Ritual would work well in an enchantress shell with maybe a few Noble Hierarchs, Destiny Spinners and draw pay-offs for enchantments etb-ing?
Not a Modern expert by any means, but before watching, I think it needs more time in the oven, and like Phil nentioned, needs to go a bit bigger. Maybe some manadorks too.
I do think it needs more work but Ritual cannot go big like Pod can. You want a bunch of hits or you'll wiff off the top. Pod could go with a single 5 drop, 6 drop, 7 drop, etc. Ritual wants a dozen of each hit to reliably hit
@@derekcline950 its fine to splash 1 of cards, with the trigger being x or less and you get to look before you sac you're not actually losing board presence by whiffing. it still sucks to whiff but you're not forced into negative value
@Zyzres I think that your last point is incorrect. It has a lot of negative value. If you have a five drop over a two drop, your plethora of 1 drops can wiff more. If you're playing a five drop with no mana acceleration, if drawn it'll be a dead card by the time games are decided. It is another CoCo wiff. And the upside is that IF you have a four drop, then you have a ~1/6 chance to hit it, which you might not even want over hitting something like a Skyclave? And let's not pretend opponent won't interact by killing your threats. You don't just get to default to sacking one of several other CMC guys if you wiff on the 5 drop. I dunno, I've tried building Ritual in Timeless and it is just very hard to build this as a silver bullet deck because you need density with only seven looks. I think the right way to build it is how the donor did, as a tight value engine package that pushes 1 drops into 4 drops that produce 1 drops
Poding voice of resurgence into renegade rallier to bring back voice is one of my favorite mtg interactions.

No you can't have Birthing Pod for 4 mana and 4 life, we have Birthing Pod at home for 2 mana and 0 life

12:35 it seems like skyclaving the bloodghast is a reasonable play as well, although I get the unfair advantage of foresight into the next few plays.
I LOVE MODERN. I LOVE BIRTHING RITUAL. I'M SO EXCITED.
1:04:11 Now that the Ring is banned, Boros Energy is on Showdown of the Skalds??
That's hot 🔥
soul hearder legit the slappiest art in the game
Obligatory algorithmic contribution
Ocelot + guide is my favourite archetype that fits everything.
10:27 No solitude and no containment priest is hard
Priest seems really awkward given Rallier, Broodmoth and Birthing Ritual
An amazing first draft for sure. There is a lot of ways to go with it.

Back im the day glen elendra archmage was my favorite pod hit
In match 5 game 3, on your third turn, you could easily have bounced Ajani's token, since Ajani says "dies" and not "leaves the battlefield", right?

I would kind of doubt it, many of the enchantress effects are on cast rather than etb, and birthing ritual can only hit creatures anyway.
It needs to just be GW. I've been running a GW list with some success at fnms, and had some blue in before. Blue just doesn't fit unfortunately
Phil may not be a Modern Master, but is he a Modern Horizon?
I read this title in Lalo Salamanca's voice.
Hey phil what do you think of hashaton for a led reanimate style deck?
Would an abzan version for seige rhino work?
Yeah this deck needs some tweaking and a more coherent direction, but there's promise!
Voice is so cool. Unfortunate that it's been power crept out by masters sets.

Yeah, Luminous Broodmoth with Coatl...idk
