This is the fight I saw over 10 years ago that I was kind of being quiet about because I didn't want to spoil Mel. It felt like I was watching this again for the first time since it's been so long. I'm happy we starting reacting to bleach because now I understand the story a lot better and feel more attached to these characters. Amazing sets of episodes!
1. "The Heart" symbolism is amazing here, always loved the climax of their conversation on the heart. Ichigo fights with his heart to protect those around him, Ulquiorra in an attempt to understand the heart took Ichigo's heart quite literally, and what is a human without a heart...We call that a monster. Ichigo became a monster to protect those around him, tho as we saw with how he almost hurt Orihime, a monster ultimately hurts everything. This plays into a bigger theme of Ichigo refusing to accept the monstrous side of him, this entire arc is supposed to show Ichigo becoming more hollow-like (which is why his time with the mask keeps increasing). The issue is that he still doesn't accept that side, he tries to use it as a tool rather than understand that it's as much as himself as the good parts. Ultimately we are all a bit of black and white and denying either of those helps no one and hurts everything.
No worries, either 10 years ago or 10 mins ago, there's always so much to get from rewatching Bleach, after the fact of things you know before, Tite Kubo is pretty good storytelling, when it's the good portion of storytelling.
I don't blame you, I wouldn't want to spoil for anyone who is watching something they are watching for the first time, especially when you haven't seen this in 10 years, this time you'll be as surprised or even more surprised at what you can remember from 10 years ago due to difference mindset, life and what-not. Great reaction as always from both of ya! Can't wait for the next arc's reaction and eventually TYBW with the rest of us! ^_^.b
Just putting it out there; Ichigo didnt come back becasue he heard Orihime cry. He came back because of the hollow inside him. It was foreshadowed back when he was fighting the hollow in the visoreds basement. He said if Ichigo was about to die, then the hollow would take over as we see here. I think its elloquently put thru the king and his horse speech. Its just disguised because of orihime crying. Great piece of writing on Kubos part.

The power behind ichigo why he is so strong it still not animated you will see it on thousand year blood war that is coming on October..
The line "I will protect you" is often looked at as a straightforward action, but it's actually a call back to Ichigo's base trauma. He couldn't protect his mother, his weakness caused her death, so he fears that happening all the time. That's why Orihime's "Help Me" was such a big trigger.
It was actually white ichigo saying that to ichigo, they probably forgot what he said right before ichigo "suppressed" him
When ichigo was training with white to subdue his hollow Powers, white told him that if he ever went and proved himself to be an unsuited King then he would take control of his body and that's exactly what happened, he was aware of Orihime and wanted to get up but it was white who got him back up, he woulda died if it was him alone. He even stomps on Ulquiora's skull like he promised to do to Ichigo

Everyone likes to fantasize that it's white saying he'll protect Ichigo without paying attention to the simple fact that it's Ichigo's voice without any hollow overlays who first says "I'll protect you." It's 100% meant for Orihime and this form is just pure hollow/base instinct. Unless people are trying to say that White is a mindless being devoid of any ability to communicate.
In some episode when ichigo had a conversation with hollow ichigo, hollow ichigo gave him a warning not to die because if ichigo dies, his hollow would take over
Plot hole though because white had the perfect opportunity to come out when ulquiora first put a hole in him but didn't

@@mastixencounter No it’s not because it’s the hollow that healed the hole in Ichigo the first time not Orihime. The hollow had more influence on him right after that as he got stronger and he was more willing to fight Grimmjow than protect Orihime. This last fight was just the cherry on top for the Hollow to completely take over

I highly encourage you guys to watch Bleach movie 4: Hell Verse because that has the Ichigo vs. Ulquiorra fight that Kuba originally envisioned and also the fact that movie really expands the world building in Bleach by introducing Hell.
The main villain of the film is voiced by Kazuya Nakai aka Roronoa Zoro.

Actually TK only validated the first 2 movies in the end. And never considered the rest as from his artwork. So from TK point of view a true fan will watch the SS arc and the first 2 movies. and of course last arc cause he finally got to do what he wanted years ago. Crazy how a mangaka is tied in term of creativity. If it was just him we would have Shinigamis with fire w...pons.

When Ichigo was training with the Vizards and he is facing the hollow inside him, when they finally reconciled, the Hollow said that don't get killed or he would come back again. That is what happened here. Ichigo got killed by Ulquiorra. The hollow inside him finally gained full control of Ichigo's body. The form is called "Vasto Lorde Ichigo".
And for all its power...its never seen again....cause it is a "Ok this would be dope in this fight but too strong to use any other time so just forget it exists." ability
Idk if they ever explain why the vasto lorde form just disappears and heals him, but I figure it is because if hollow ichigo didn't heal him he would die eventually? Either way, even though this Vasto Lorde hollow Ichigo is strong as hell, compared to Dangai Ichigo or Aizen in Karakura, this hollow would get mopped by Aizen@@masterreaper115

Has nothing to do with Orihime being a "golden ticket" that he "survived". Remember when White (the hollow within him) promised hin that when he grows weak he will overturn him and instead control his body. What is what kinda happend. Ichigos pure will to protect Orihime mixed with the essence of his hollow for a brief moment which brought this uncontrolled version forward. Because of this he had no real conciousness. Only the will to protect Orihime.
Not to protect Orihime but to protect Ichigo. I don't think Zangetsu cares for Orihime, Ishida or his other friends. Plus in this case, at this point, Ichigo wasn't weak, his desire to protect was intact. The weakness Zangetsu referred to was resolve, the same one Urahara was teaching him during his first training.

@@mattheffelfinger8263 zangetsu as well is driven by desire, "to be King" & in order to do so, He obliterates any enemy in its path. For this to happen, Ichigo has to seek fights Cz his instincts guide him to do so. Don't know why people make Inoue so relevant in Ichigo's development, she's just like any other friend. Infact, Tatsuki is even more important since they grew up together, but since Ichigo cares, he protects & his zanpakuto protects him.

The second transformation always made me wonder if Ulquiorra is actually the most perfect Arankar. Just like Shinigamis have two releases, so does he. He was the closest to humanity and that's tied to why he tries so much to understand what being a human is like.

@@mastixencounter I'm not talking about being a natural or not, and also not talking about who's the most powerful. I'm just talking about achieving the balance between Shinigami and Hollow. Both Stark and Ulquiorra at the end showed that they do understand what it is to be human and honestly could just be normal dudes living in the human world had they not being born in hueco mundo. It's not like Barragan who feels the need to dominate everything or Yammi who just wants to destroy everything.

And also it was never stated that Shinigami get stronger when they are near death. That's from Dragon Ball lol. Ichigo gets stronger not because he dies or gets injured but because he earns experience in battle and unlocks more portions of his power (Hollow powers in this case).
The whole pedigree likely explains the quick upticks in strength can’t wait for TYBW 🎊
@Utopians Dream: On the contrary, literally right near the beginning of the series, Urahara said to Ichigo something along the lines of "a soul most pushes its limits when it is in danger of being destroyed" clear back during the first test when they were getting his powers back to him. The entire point of that test being if he could dodge the little girl's first punch. Before that test, he was having trouble just breathing and even staying on his feet. Afterward, he was moving around just fine with no trouble. Also, the entire case in the beginning of the series that every time Ichigo's friends had a life-threatening spiritual encounter, they were more aware and stronger afterward for the next time. It's not just Soul Reapers, it's a general principle that applies to _everyone_ in the Bleach-verse. It's not exactly the same as a Zenkai boost from DBZ, but it is similar enough that the comparison is warranted.
That last part is 🧢 it is true that he unlocked more of his power and gained expierence, but in the beginning of the series it was said by Urahara that if a Soul is in a near death situation they get pushed to their limits and gain even more strength

Hollow Ichigo always warned him. If you die, I am the new King! Also from the first time Ulquiorra encounter Ichigo he said when his spirit pressure is low, it's trash. When his Spiritual Pressure is high. It's beyond Ulquiorra's.
Yeah I hope they don't over look that. They still think when Orihime shouted to Ichigo it was a power up.

I remember seeing this for the first time and expecting Ichigo to get back up to protect his friends and it was WILD seeing him turn into a monster of pure rage and hatred
Remember what hollow ichigo told him when he did his vizard training. That was major foreshadowing for his full hollow transformation. Ichigo has been holding back his hollow side since soul society and this was simply him not being able to hold back his own power anymore

If you remember when Ulquiorra and Yammy first entered into the world of the living, when Ichigo froze up during his fight with Yammy because of his inner hallow, Ulquiorra said Ichigo's spiritual pressure was fluctuating up and down and was insignificant when it was low but was even higher then his when it was high. So that was a lil hint of how powerful Ichigo's inner hallow is.
It wasn’t a hint. He was just referring to ichigo’s mask power and his own base form. If it had really been the vasto lorde power level, why would Ulquiorra leave without killing him? Specially knowing this is the form Aizen was expecting to go against. Why would Ulquiorra refer to him as trash?

Ulquiora pretty much waited for Orihime to arrive before killing Ichigo so she will finally break.
He has a second release form is basically him releasing twice. Arrancar’s release to me has always been consider on the level of a captain’s bankai. So ul basically has two forms of his bankai if you wanna associate it that way.
its totally different than shikai and bankai though. an arrancar release is them just releasing part of themselves that they sealed within the Zanpakutō thus their original power. a second stage release would be an actual power up though. as kubo stated any arrancar could achieve second state release with enough "training" as did grimmjow later on

I just wanna comment this before anyone says vasta lorde is an asspull or doesn’t make sense go look at the Ichigo and Zangestus king and the horse talk. Ichigo is usually the “king” but this time Zangestu is the “King”. He took over when ichigo “died”
It's not an asapull but can still be considered a deus ex-machina. What people usually don't get is that this is not always a bad thing, Vasto Lorde Ichigo had sufficient foreshadowing to make this work and it also presents a new touch to the narrative: Ulquiorra was beating him until Ichigo loses humanity, and his defeat allowed Ulquiorra to finally understand humanity. The villain and the hero switched sides and this allowed both to grow as characters

When Ulquiorra first arrived in the world of the living, Ulquiorra also mentioned that Ichigo's spiritual pressure fluctuated, and that it went from low to even higher than his own power (which I'm guessing the stronger spiritual pressure was the Hollow side trying to break out)

One of my favorite signs of foreshadowing from Kubo in the series is when ichigo fights white ichigo and defeats him, and white ichigo gives him the speech to not die or he’ll take control hence this whole transformation. But the best part is that he says he’ll literally stomp on his head, which he actually does to Ulquiorra.

@@mastixencounter It's not a plot hole tho. How much time do you think that little skirmish between Uryu and Ulquiorra take? It would've been weird if they went on by and Ichigo showed up five episodes later but Hollow Ichigo came out in like a minute. Basically the time it took for Ichigo to fully loose conscience and Hollow Ichigo to take over.

All the Espada represents an aspect of death...Ulquiorra is emptiness...How incredibly fiting...
Remember when white ichigo told ichigo “If you really want to control my power make sure not to die until you see me again”. This fight is what he meant. Ichigo lost and died so white ichigo, his hollow power, stepped in and took control. Try and recall his speech about the horse and the king and how white ichigo told him he wouldn’t be horse to a weak king who would get them both killed

@@mastixencounter IMO, it's an empty threat by Hichigo just to make Ichigo stronger. If he wanted to, he'd have done it a long time ago. But his instincts usually make him protect Ichigo by default. So instead of being a hollow that devours, he protects.
@@mastixencounter the plot _is_ why that didn't happen. The threat was gone and it was trying to heal Ichigo.
Besides it was probably an empty threat anyways because he actually wants to protect Ichigo not take over. So by extension it protected Orihime.

Dude absolutely loved your reaction to the fight as well as ulquiorra segunda etapa resurrection and Ichigos "vasto lorde" form
(This explains why he was able to overpower hiyori's hollow because his hollow form is a complete entity compared to the visored who had a power of a low level hollow)
Another thing I loved this episode that will HYPE you up was when ichigo was drowning trying to save orihime, remember that scene when his hollow entity said if you die I'm taking over along with his true goal which was to protect her so it was actually his hollow who said I WILL PROTECT YOU towards ichigo/orhime🔥🔥🔥
P.S this also is shown when ulquiorra said "Who are you, identify yourself" + when he ripped ulquiorra's arm because the hollow is fighting with his killer instinct compared to ichigo 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

So theres a bleach movie with this fight scene at the start, and I was watching a informational video about bleach, can't remember what it's called. But because the author was rushed in the making of bleach he didn't get to make this scene how he wanted he wanted them to go more toe to toe before Ichigo overpowered ulliquorra, but in the fight scene for the movie he got to do that a little bit. Still a super dope fight though hes my favorite espada and this is my favorite bleach fight.

remember when white ichigo always says ''if you die, i will take control'' and he's the one who took over in the fight between ichigo and byakuya as well, so this one it was him and he took over by a very strong will of protect from ichigo, so he took the control and since ichigo is almost fully dead this time, he came out with his strongest form and yes this is vasto lord form since white ichigo is a reference to ichigo's hollow

One thing that was crazy during this fight and idk if you guys noticed during or later on, but even though Ichigo has no control in that form, he's still somewhat himself as he pays Ulquiorra back for the things he's done, such as cutting off his arm as payback for Ulquiorra breaking Uryu's arm, and also charging him from the front, but then blitzing him and grabbing him from the side of his head and yeeting him, like what 2nd release Ulquiorra did to Ichigo himself. Also This form of Ichigo's is more Akin to a Vasto lorde as it's smaller, less animal like and more humanoid like.
Yeah when Vasto Lorde Ichigo does the same charge and strikes from the side it was so satisfying LOL also when he drags Ulquiorra's face through the dirt.

Fun fact: as powerful as Ulquiorra and “Vasto Lorde” Ichigo are Kubo confirmed that Szaeylaporro was even more powerful when he was the top Espada.
Well Szaeylaporro was a Vasto Lordes before he split himself and was the previous espada #0

As the comment above you said, its revealed in the novels that szayelaporro was the number 0 espada (like yammy now) and was a vasto lorde but then he split himself between him and his brother (the one that renji killed back in karakura when grimmjow invaded) so he lost most of his powers and was kicked out of the espada before he joined again later as number 8
@@UryuCifer There was even a clue to this in Nel/Nnoitra's backstory when Szayel asked Nnoitra not to speak to him rudely and Nnoi replied "you're not even an Espada anymore" ("anymore" is left out in the anime). Szayel then kinda puts him in his place and Nnoi can only suck his teeth
@@UryuCifer Did they ever explain WHY he chose to split himself? He did nothing but weaken himself and make it that much easier to kill him...when he wanted to become immortal...its just completely contradictory.
Edit: I remembered why, then looked up the full story and yeah it makes 0 sense. So Sza was a stupidly powerful hollow after devouring his brother, he reached vastolorde status before being an arrancar. However for some reason even though he was arguably the 2nd strongest hollow in HISTORY at this point he chose to...serve...old man age-you-to-death. He was then made Espada 0 by Aizen. He realized that his anger issues were holding him back so he severed his brother/anger into a second arrancar which then didnt stay in his faction...for some reason..and went to join Grimboys faction..and then got capped by renji...So many illogical actions from the most scientific minded Espada its disappointing.
"Bats only come out at night" Oh my god how did I not realize this!
"Don't die before you see me again, or I will be king and you will be my horse!" Ichigo was warned over a hundred episodes ago.
Segunda Etapa makes Ulquiorra special. It also generated a ton of debate over who the strongest Espada truly was. To the point it became a meme cause there are so many candidates! I have my own opinion (it's not Ulquiorra) but I'll save that for the end of the arc.
Btw a lot of people hated his first release back in the day. I never understood why cause it was clean and simple and fit the religious theme his character had with the priest robe.
At the end of the day none of this matters since Yhwach solos.
I only ever thought it was weird that Yammy goes from 10 to 0 even though in his 0 form he is still definitely weaker than the 4-1 espada. I know he can just get mad like the Hulk, but he was so easily defeated that it begs you to consider whether or not that even matters. I think Starrk and Halibel could easily kill him and IMO Barragan should be #1 because he was only defeated because of the insane move Hachigen pulled on him.
When I was a kid, every one of my friends that watched Bleach and saw this was shook from this fight.

As for why Ichigo is so powerful, you have to wait for new anime season in this October.
Something to remember is that hollow Ichigo said to Ichigo during his hollow mask training with the visards
"Don't get yourself killed, if I since the slightest weakness I'll throw you off and crush your skull"
I missed this transformation, i remember how my jawdropped the first time way back, sooo good.
Basically, Ressureccion is the closest to bankai because it is their original hollow form returning. However, Ulquiorra's Segunda Etapa is the true form of his "clan." Ulquiorra is a very special hollow and also a natural arrancar. If you want to learn more you can read Ulquiorra's bacstory in Unmasked, because I don't think they'll adapt it into the anime. Not sure about that tho
Ulquiorra is not a natural arrancar he was a special vasto lorde class hollow in his back story resembled a vasto not an arrancar. Starrk was the only natural arrancar among the espadas.
Ulquiorra was a natural arrancar, he broke his mask by himself. Aizen used the hogyoku on him (and Starrk) later to give them more power. Ulquiorra mentions that unlike all the other arrancar who sacrificed their healing capabilities for more power, he kept his. Starrk as well broke his own mask and split his soul into two beings just before meeting Aizen.@@shadowfire01
Remember that Arrancars are Humanified hollows, while this form of Ichigo (and in the future this particular hollow) is a humanoid, not a humanified, hollow. In other words this is Vasto Lorde Ichigo. It's the highest level of hollow that is also human sized.

The soul “White Ichigo” inside of ichigo found the opportunity to take advantage of his body when he was week and that’s when he transformed in to Vasto Lordos full Hollow

Ulquiorra's name in spanish can sound like when traslated "He who cries" and his release murcielago translates to "bat" in spanish
The brutal beatdown aside, the fact that Ichigo's Cero didn't even have a DBZ beam struggle or anything like that, but *instantly* overwhelmed and blew away Ulquiorra's has always been such a hype moment for me. Like, it shows us flat out just how monstrously powerful Ichigo is in this form. He's not just a little stronger than Ulquiorra, he's *A LOT* stronger.
Not to mention it easily overpowered Ulquiorra's Cero Oscuras and not just a normal cero
He's not quite an arrancar, he is a Vasto Lorde, hollows evolve by devouring others, until they become arrancars the ultimate form they desire to become is a Vasto Lorde, one who wants that the most is Grimmjow

26:00 - Ichigo is so strong in this form because it is his inner hollow/zanpakto being let out at full power no restriction. I wont go into details so there are no spoilers but that is the gist of it,.
the markings on his mask keep changing due to how much hollow power ichigo can control, with these new markings it means that he has learnt to control/prolong his hollow form.
24:10 soul reapers don't get stronger when they get close to death that's saiyans. But the hollow within Ichigo has always threatened to take his body if he ever dies, that's what happened here

Vastor Lorde Ichigo has been my fav form of his, or so to say THE goated form that i really love, i just love how OP he was and sad that this is the only one battle he goes like this in this fight only and throw everything else at the back mood.
This is why people say Segunda Etapa Ulquiorra is the strongest Espada, and you guys are right. That form of Ichigo is a Vasto Lorde.

@@zhangxnoir6694 I highly doubt Aizen didn't know about Ulquiorra's segunda etapa, probably Ulquiorra didn't know that Aizen knew about his second state and that's why he made that rule. When I said he's not I wasn't even referring to the top 3 Espadas. The strongest Espada is not even top 5 at this current time.
I love the dichotomy of ichigo on the verge of defeat vs Ulqiora. Ichigo was not willing to give up even in the face of overwhelming power, where as Ulqiorra gave up as soon as he realized who was stronger. It goes to show the power of “heart”. And it’s through this that her came to believe I it existed. Thanks to Orahime and Ichigo.
Ichigo became a Vasto Lorde which is a step below Arrancars so the fact that he is that strong by being a lesser life form is crazy
all the Bleach fights we watch today are animated 10 or 12 years ago but are still pretty cool. Next October the final arc of Bleach is full of highly anticipated battles and uses current animations! makes me impatient.
If you pay attention to when Ulquiorra first met ichigo and while ichigo is getting plumble by yami ulquiorra said that ichigo power swing wildy up and down and when it's at its peak it surpass even ulquiorra power

In the manga, when Ulquiorra grabs Uryu's arm and is like "Is this the arm?" he actually *rips his whole hand off* from the wrist. The anime was airing in primetime though, so they had to tone it down by instead having him break it to the point of being useless.

Just some info. That form is the Vasto Lorde. As ichigo has within his soul also a hollow soul, the hollow can also evolve. The ranking of hollows are: normal hollows, Gillian, Adjuchas and Vasto Lorde being ranked by left to right with Vasto Lorde being the stronghest.
Arrancars are Vasto Lorde and Adjuchas hollows that removed their mask so they got shinigami powers. The mask of a hollow is made by the lack of human heart represented by the hole in their chest, so by removing the mask hollow transmute their hearth into the sword
Basically, this is Ulquiorra going bankai. According to Kubo (in an interview), it is something that others could unlock given time and aptitude. Also, Orihime didn't give Ichigo a power up. Remember when White said that Ichigo better not die or he would take over? Well, this is White, fully unleashed, but Ichigo's will to protect directed his uncontrolled hollow into killing whatever it deemed a threat to her (Ulquiorra), as well as anything that gets in his way of eliminating it (Ishida). Byakuya is actually very lucky that he didn't manage to kill Ichigo in the Soul Society arc, as this is what would have been released against him, rather than the half mask version that Ichigo was able to suppress. Finally, I can't tell you exactly why without a spoiler, but Ichigo is not an Arrancar in this form, despite looking like it. Suffice it to say, he is the MC of a Shonen, and so he is special.
I always liked Uryu, he gets some amazing moments in the show before this particularly against Mayuri but yeah, this fight where Uryu just stepped up because he needed to made me really like him so much more to the point where he's one of my favourites.

This ichigo's hollow form against Ulquiorra is this strong because this is in fact the real form of the hollow he got inside of him. Which, in the story, is the first attempt of arrancar creation ( an hollow mixed with a shinigami soul ), and the shinigami soul which was used to create this hollow/arrancar, was a really rare and powerful soul. ^^
this explains why ichigo's hollow is so naturally powerful ( i tried not to spoil important data )

Arrancars are powerful because Aizen fused arleady strong Hollows with the power that comes along with having a zanpakuto. When Ichigo dies, his hollow form takes over, which is a Vasto Lorde hollow, the top of the food chain as far as hollows go, PLUS he already has a zanpakuto. Ulquiorra had no chance. Ichigo revived as the strongest being in the hollow realm. They explain this later in the TYBW arc in the manga and anime. Sadly, we don't ever see him take this form again, except in the Hell verse and in recaps.
I know this is a year old, but I love this scene in Bleach...it very much foreshadows so much.
Lots of people don’t realise that the final hollow form of Ichigo resembles the silhouettes they showed when the captains were talking about Vasto Lordes. Obviously later down the line in TYBW there are even more clues and revelations about how got to this stage.
The name of this version of Ichigo is Vasto Lorde and it's essentially the Hollow took over completely because Ichigo died at this point and the Hollow went with the mindset of protecting Orihime and only her without regard to anyone else around

Simple answer to why Ichigo got so strong is that it is Bleach and Ichigo is just given more power to win no matter the odds. To this day I never understood why he could surpass everyone so easily except that he is the main character so he has to win. Out of the Big 3, Bleach was the most notorious for that.

not really. an arrancar release is not like shikai. Arrancar's seal part of themselves in their zanpakuto and releasing it is pretty much showing their actual power

He did in fact die, that's why that form came out because hollow ichigo said he would take over If ichigo ever dies.
So for those that don't know, Ichigos mask changed in response to his connection to his hollow becoming stronger. The person fighting Ulquiorra also wasn't Ichigo. It was White.
Don't read this one if you don't want spoilers. The reason Ichigo is different from the Vizards, is they were experiments that were given hollow powers. Ichigo actually has a Vasto Lorde inside of him whose name is White. If you want to know how that happened, well you'll find out in the new arc.

Like how when Szayelaporro breaks uryu's internal organs and he coughs up water when in the manga he coughs up blood, which makes no sense to censor since they literally show other people coughing up blood, and the list goes on and on. I don't know why they pick and chose to censor things when at other times the same thing will happen and not get censored. makes no sense

Explain how this stomp fiesta was a good fight, because it wasn't at all. It had cool visuals and that's literally it. Not even a fight. Massive stomping into gigantic power swing into another massive stomping. Garbage fight, not even top 10 in Bleach.
