Manuel Francisco dos Santos (28 October 1933 - 20 January 1983), known by the nickname Garrincha , was a Brazilian footballer who played right winger and forward. He is regarded by many in the sport to be the best dribbler in football history.
The word garrincha itself means wren. Garrincha was also known as Mané (short for Manuel) by his friends. The combined Mané Garrincha is common among fans in Brazil. Due to his immense popularity in Brazil, he was also called Alegria do Povo (People's Joy) and Anjo de Pernas Tortas (Bent-Legged Angel).
In 1958 and 1962, Garrincha won the FIFA World Cup with the Brazil national team. At the 1962 tournament, with Pelé out injured, he led the team to victory, received the World Cup Golden Ball for player of the tournament, the Golden Boot as leading goalscorer, and was named in the World Cup All-Star Team. In 1994 he was named in the FIFA World Cup All-Time Team. Brazil never lost a match while fielding both Garrincha and Pelé.

Garrincha foi o Charles Chaplin do futebol, simplesmente genial, a alegria do povo. Era um fenômeno social e não sabia, nas tardes de domingo quando atuava no Maracanã, arrebatava multidões, que iam ao estádio para vê-lo jogar. Se alguém é insubstituível no futebol, esse alguém é êle. Foi sem dúvida o jogador mais querido do Brasil. Deixou saudades eternas nos corações dos torcedores, como eu.

Totalmente de acuerdo con vos. En mi opinion Brasil siempre tuvo los mejores jugadores del mundo, y le seguimos nosotros. Para mi Garrincha fue un jugador extraordinario, incluso lo considero a la par de Pelé, para mi, la mejor dupla que jamas vio el futbol. Una pena que haya fallecido en la miseria Garrincha, un grande como el no puede ser olvidado.
Uno observa como jugaban los brasileños hasta aprox. 1986, y de ahí en adelante perdieron esa forma mágica de jugar al futbol,debido a que ahí comenzó el exodo hacia Europa donde le exigen que juegue como europeo,matando su alma libre de futbolista de barrio,era la única forma de domarlos. Por eso ,por ejemplo, cuando Neymar hace esas jugadas en Europa lo quieren matar. Ojalá algun dia los brasileños regresen a sus raíces y dejen de emigrar. Volverían a ser casi imbatibles.
La magia del fútbol siempre estuvo y estará en Sud América....

With that speed,dribbling and skills they had beaten their opponents, won against their tactics. If you look at the video, you can often see how handsomely they could beat their opponents back then. And those who say that now there are more tactics then previous ages, you have perhaps forgot one thing that these players are called greatest players because they have found out ways,skills to defy those tactics and if they were born now they could have produced much more magic then they produced 60 years ago.These legends all deserve respect from us for improving the game of football. It's because of them, to defend against them, the tactics and overall football has developed to this extent. My sincere respect to him!!!!
There is a saying in football fields in Brazil: "The ball runs faster" roughly translated, it means you don't need to run much when you know what you doing. That's why older footballers are better. Because they were smarter.

Por isso que tem históricos de confronto com o Botafogo encaçapando o Real Madrid. Daí colocavam o time reserva pra jogar os campeonatos daqui.

No you got it all wrong. Garrincha was a great player but no one in Brazil says he was better? Pele is not a big idol for the country and is not loved as much as garrincha was but he was a better footballer, maybe botafogo fans started this myth but ask some old age fans in Brazil who saw both of them play and they will say Pele was better, mane is more loved because he was the Joy of the people hahaha that’s his nickname. I sah him 1958 in tv in Germany .was 10 years old. From that Moment my heart was a brasilian one. And this longs now for 62 years. When germany was playing against Brasil, I was not invited to see it on tv.
