    Well, Brian. Yesterday I sent some comments about some problems with the Wyze light bulbs and how generally Philips Hue light bulbs are easy to install and use. Yesterday I received a new Philips Hue light bulb to install in a new lamp. I had no problems using the Philips Hue app to recognize the new bulb and set it up. But of course because I had opened my mouth and inserted my foot earlier, I could not get Google Assistant to recognize the bulb after several attempts. Before I went to bed, I tried one more time. The firmware on the bulb needed to be updated, and now the bulb is working great. I must be more careful about what I put in my mouth. 😀

      Ahahhahaahaha! Barely a problem though Brad. Must have been a server side issue!

    You and Wirecutter have been helping me make my home smarter throughout this month. Yesterday, I got four Wyze light bulbs and after 90 minutes felt like I was on the bad end of a 70s ethnic joke. Today I tried again. I'm not an idiot (normally). Surely I can change a light bulb. More frustration. I never thought I'd have to turn to you (or anyone) for help with something this simple. Thank heavens you're there. Wyze should send you money because I nearly returned. (I did send an e-mail to start the return process.) They desperately need to pay you to demystify their instructions and help content. Before this video, I was really glad I'd found your videos, website and Twitter account. Now, you have a grateful friend in Detroit. This video gave me TWO crucial bits I would not have figured out.

    This was a great video for setting up the WYZE bulb. However, I just purchased a new modem/router and I can't get my WYZE system to recognize the new wi-fi network. Do you have a video that speaks to that subject?

    • @AutomateYourLife
      @AutomateYourLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have a video specifically for that topic, but we talk about WiFi and these kinds of issues on our Q&A videos and a few others. With Wyze specifically, there are a few reasons/ways this can happen. What's going on? Did you use the same username/credentials for logon?

    Thanks for a nice, helpful review. Initially, I wasn't that interested in purchasing Wyze Bulbs. However, combined with a Wyze motion sensor would this not be one of the least expensive and easiest* light-motion sensor triggered solutions available? (*although probably not simple given your comments in an earlier video regarding Wyze bulb setup.)

      It's pretty simple once it's set up Doug! I haven't had any issues for a solid week and a bit now. :)

    I have been trying all day to find an automate option inside this app and don't see way short of cutting off after 1 min routine created.. any way to cut it off when no motion detected from cam? I found an ifttt option but still nowhere can I figure out how to turn if off in coordination with lack of movement despite seeing it in reviews on amazon when/thus why I bought it. Thanks if you have a sec to answer.

    Question, do the bulbs reconnect to the WiFi following a power outage and do they maintain their settings?

    • @AutomateYourLife
      @AutomateYourLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Now they do, yes. On initial release they did not have an option to maintain previous settings.

    You know .. Each time I watch a video by you and I feel a little bit sad, because I remember myself before 2 years. Each smart gadget I buy comes with its own app, its own menus, its own tips and tricks. I ended up with huge amount of applications (or I have to call them complications :D ) on my phone and I couldn't ever remember which application I should start to control something. The good thing is that there is Google Home App that can combine some of the controls for some of the appliances in one place, thought .. :) I i'm really waiting you to start making videos for Hass.io (simplified Home Assistant, like for dummies, which has great integration with all voice assistants and with Home app too). :) Because people must see how easy it is to make your home appliances connected together in one or two apps (max) and stop looking at the smart things and automations like something super hard to achieve. :) I know there are loooots of people using hundred of apps instead Home or Alexa in addition to Hass.io, or something similar. :)

    • @AutomateYourLife
      @AutomateYourLife  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You might be waiting a while. :)
      Personally, I'm fine with having 9-10 applications. I put them in a group and I move on with life. However, in living within my smart home I have 4 that I deal with (SmartThings, GH, Alexa, Wyze) and now ActionTiles to bring 95% of it together. Hass.io is great and all, but I'm not intending to show tools like that on the channel unless there's a massive uptick in user base. It's growing, and I'm glad to see that (because truly, I like playing with systems this), but right now it's just not there for us on AYL. Just letting you know you might be waiting a while ;)

      @@AutomateYourLife It is not like I'm sitting and waiting. It is just an idea. :) Actually these videos would not be such an exiting thing for me. I almost know all of the code behind it, because I'm writing some custom modules for it. There is almost nothing I can learn for it, in addition to my knowledge. It would be interesting for people that don't know about it. :)

      Ahahahaha that’s true hey? Like you already know!
      The one thing I’ve started to consider is to do a video on some of the “deeper” automation systems like this and show the ins and outs at a high level. Then ask people what they’d like to see more of and what they’re considering trying.

    Is there a way I can have Sengled bulbs turn themselves off after being on for 10 minutes like the Wyze bulbs? I already have the bulbs in the bathroom and my kids keep forgetting to turn them off.

    • @AutomateYourLife
      @AutomateYourLife  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rod - I do this in SmartThings. It's actually a bit complex, but you'll see the whole set up on our community boards here: community.automatelife.net/topic/72-my-main-bathroom-setup/
      You wouldn't need the whole set up, but you can see how I'm using Virtual Switches to do it.

    • @rodbrown6002
      @rodbrown6002 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AutomateYourLife I hate to be a bother but I don't see the same things in my smart things app version 1.7.38-21, v3 hub. I see nothing for virtual switches or how to make them. All I want is to turn off the lights after they have been on for 10 minutes. I have to motion sensor.

    $5 USD until us Canadians have to buy the lightbulbs on amazon.com and end up paying $20 CND per lightbulb. Can't wait to integrate them at my parents' house though.

      Automate Your Life I bit the bullet and bought them on amazon and I’ll get them next week. My mom’s place in Northern BC is empty cause my mom is in the hospital and I live in the lower mainland so I set up the Wyze cams to keep an eye on the place just in case the roof caves in under the snow. The Wyze lights will be set up so it looks like someone is at home or the house is haunted! 👻

      You know Gary...maybe they're dead? If you have the originals, they're now getting up there in age! Otherwise, could be WiFi problems more than bulb problems. Take a bunch off the WiFi, reboot your router, and try again. :)

    Too tedious. It shoud be able to set time for on and off in one window. Also be able to select all bulbs available to include in the schedule. Sheesh, it shouldn't be so tedious.
