I played Melee, Brawl, skipped 4, went onto Ultimate, never looked back. Then I tuned into Melee finals today waiting for Ultimate finals, and I felt a yearning for Melee when I watched this. This match was hype, Zain was insane, hbox too actually, but Zain. super glad I caught the action.
@@neil2451 it's ok. there's a lot of RNG involved. A lot of randomly attacking or randomly blocking and hoping it hits so then you can follow up with a combo. Basically, the game doesn't punish you for wasting hits which would be like a stamina bar.
Even as an Hbox fan, I rooted for Zain here because there were so many times when he got so close to winning but he just couldn't clutch it out. I'm so glad to see him finally take the trophy this time around.
Same here. I’m a big hbox fan but I love zain’s gameplay too, even when I root against him. It’s really awesome to see this wave of interesting characters make their way into into top 8, and these two are the cream of the crop.

The ones that were looking straight ahead, deeply focused in the game. Zain and Marss are both players that have come close but had never clutched it out, and the way they were dead focused on the game tells that they wanted the win more than anyone else. The players who were looking around them at the ceiling during the set were distracted. Probably having thoughts about something else in the back of their minds, like a small mistake that may have cost them a stock, or a game, or even worse, sent them to losers bracket before grand finals.
I was just thinking today about how nice it used to be when VGBC used to extend videos as to not spoil them. Really nice to see this being used again because some sets I’ll stop watching because the outcome is determined already by the length of the video.

Zain really made some sick adjustments on the ledge. In their previous sets, he was constantly getting baired and dying for it at 70-90% because hbox would hug the ledge and his timings would be too predictable. He extended almost every stock vs puff this tournament.
It's not win-win. You can't monetize videos with dead space at the end like that, and it fucks you in the algorithm because your watch time % isn't high. It's doing it for the fans at a cost.
Really glad Zain won. But I have to say I have never enjoyed watching Hungrybox this much. Like, Zain did his homework and came in with a gameplan-he knows how HBox plays, he knows the percents, he has kill-setups... and HBox has to deal with it on the fly. And he comes up with such creative and clever answers; he perfectly mixes up the crouch to counter JCgrabs and spot-dodge to counter dashgrabs, he knows when to stay above sharks and when to come down, relies on ramen noodles and ledge-regrabs to seal stocks instead of fast-faller rest-setups. The man fucking delivers, and it's so exciting to see. It wouldn't have felt right if Zain lost, not with all this preparation and work. He deserved to win... only for Hungrybox to come up with his own gameplan for next time they meet in bracket or better yet in grands. Good shit to both players. This is some great Melee, mangs.
