    I grew up in the Christian church. I went to a Christian college. Purity culture was definitely a thing there too. We were told it was our responsibility to not be a stumbling block to our "brothers is Christ." I always thought it was stupid. I even broke the rules a couple of times and got sent back to my dorm to change. I didn't realize how much this affected me until the past few years, and I am now a 43 year old woman. I recently told my mom about purity culture and she didn't realize this had been taught to me, because she was not raised in Christian Church. She was shocked. How about we raise our boys to respect women. I have 1 boy and 1 girl. I am trying my best to teach them body autonomy and respect.

    I am LDS and I must say that they do not hide section 132. Many of us descend from early polygamists, including me. You need to get correct info from the LDS, we are not part of the polygamist sects. I am also LDS (or I was) and the LDS Church is absolutely responsible for polygamy. They started it. Mormons still practice polygamy after this life so if you choose to be Mormon, you are accepting polygamy full stop.

    In the 1980’s, 1990’s, I was living in Mesa AZ and Lacey WA. Was always being visited by Missionaries. I would ask questions they couldn’t answer. I would then give them a pamphlet of questions written by ex Mormons. Asked them to come back when they could answer the questions. Yep! They never came back!

    • @susanhogg5601
      @susanhogg5601 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Missionaries are not interested in bashing.. they are finding the is who want to learn more about Christ and the Bible. They won't do confrontation because it's not a great environment. That being said, they do answer honest questions. As for most members, they welcome questions like you're talking about. Missionaries just don't have a lot of time to spend it with people who are "hostile" (like a generic term, not about attitude) to the church.

    • @ChevonBayless

      @susanhogg5601 it doesn't sound like this person was being confrontational, just curious. If the church wants to send kids out to teach the gospel they should be prepared to answer tough questions. You should join a church if you don't have all the information

    I cannot imagine what would have become of Leon had Sisterwives not happened. Didn’t they cry, wanting to stay in Lehi and live with friends to continue going to the school associated with this church? I think they expressed wanting to live polygamy in early seasons, also. If there is one redeeming factor for this train wreck “reality show” it’s that it provided Leon an Avenue to live authentically. Everyone cheers the wives leaving Kody, I cheer Leon 👏👏👏

      I seem to recall them saying those things early on the show.
      I'm so grateful to know that Leon can live their life without hiding, fear or others inflicting a concept of "shame" that is definitely not theirs to carry.
      It does sadden me for all the kids that they've had sibling relationships destroyed (additional to several/most having no father in their now-adult lives.

    So this means that when Christine left, Meri would have believed she was taking away her ability to see Leon and Kody in the after life? And that’s why she was so mad? It wasn’t about this life but the lifetime to come. Maybe that’s part of why she hung on so long? But I think slowly over time she must have had her beliefs changing too especially in regards to Leon.

    The LDS church does not support or endorse or affiliate with these polygamist . i’m sure you’re right that there are people who have dual memberships but it is not encouraged, and if it was known, it would not be allowed -remember I mentioned Katie that I have a friend in Eagle Mountain and he was approached by someone from his LDS congregation to meet with him and secret and that had something really important to share with him. He was probably in the AUB group, trying to convert my friend to join his cult, my friend is he’s a successful handsome man has a great income,

    • @Sisterbama
      @Sisterbama 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      You’re right about the gift of tongues. When a message in tongues is given in a church body it’s from the Lord someone or the same person will have the interpretation. doing that is also a gift from God. It’s not a translation.. However, many times it is another language and someone in the congregation may know that language and get the interpretation for the body. As far as the Pentecostals, chattering away, when we are filled with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of a speaking in tongues, as it says, in the Bible, we are given a heavenly language just for you and God. You don’t know what you’re saying, but the Holy Spirit is praying through you, through your voice, making intercession for you according to the will of God, the Bible says, sometimes we don’t know what we should pray for or how we should pray. And those times pray in the Holy Spirit.
      So most all Pentecostals, who have received the baptism in the Holy Spirit, have a prayer language, but not necessarily the gift of tongues. They are separate. When gathered together and praying out loud in the sanctuary none of those words you hear are for you. If you are ever around sincere worship, close your eyes and let the Lord bless your heart. A great example of worship is Jesus Image on your tube.
      If someone does blurt out a message in tongues and there is no interpretation, they are out of order. They were most likely praying, but missed hearing a message from God to the congregation.

    Joseph Smith took things from the Bible. Especially scripture that gave an impression of spirituality
    Though in the articles of faith, it states they believe in the gift of tongues. in the 18 years of growing up in the AUB (and I was a believer having served a term on the youth council and thought I would live a life of polygamy), never once did I witness or hear of anyone who even came close to speaking in tongues.
    I have since received the Holy Ghost as it happens according to the Bible and spoke in tongues as the Spirit gave the utterance and God stripped away the false doctrines of the Mormon religion.
    I will be thankful that it was written in the Mormon articles of faith because I had been taught little of the Bible, yet when a Pentecostal preacher gave me a Bible study showing all those in the Bible who received the Holy Ghost spoke in tongues, I was curious and blown away asking, “this really still happens???!” The Bible study was the first step of many that led me to a relationship with the Lord God, Jesus
