These are awesome and a great help! Weird question: I am a guitarist starting to learn theory, jazz and just got this crazy octave fuzz pedal that’s famous for imitating trumpet/brass sounds. What are some scales, modes, tips, tricks, where to add rhythmic/chromatic elements, etc to make my lead playing sound more brass-based? Thanx!!!
I know it's been a while since you've asked the question, but my guess is you should try to somehow imitate a trumpet solo, take any trumpet solo you like, and try to mimick what is played. Thats how I learned how to play better solos on my trumpet so my guess is if you imitate some of the greats you should be able to get somewhat closer to feel like a brass, but to be honest if you are playing a guitar you will never get really the sound of a brass instrument.
Play with your pedal until you like what you hear: that. Instruments aren't theory-based, they simply have different timbres and ranges which musicians play with.
I just found your channel, it's very nice ! It's even better if you don't find your sheet of music, or if you try to remember how you are supposed to play an old song! What is your trumpet's brand ? The sound quality is impressive !
Hello ! A little message to ask you a question if you allow ;) I'm musician, not in brass at all, not in trumpet neither BUT I really like how they sound. I'm writing my own songs witha DAW and recording instruments i can play (drums, guitar and bass) but everything which is brass, winds and strings, i do it with a midi controller and a sample sound generator (PResence XT from PResonus). The question is : on your play "mexican hat dance" i've seen there two trumpets in the second part, what i remember of my (far) music school lesson, i can see that in the seoncd measure, 16th note, one trumpet plays G, E, D#, the other one plays G, E, D. It is because of the different tuning of the two trumpets or it is a different key beetween two measures ? I try to play some " licks", some "hits" on a boogie rock i wrote but i 'm in pain to find what notes to play. The same scale used with my guitar (IE the song is in E pentatonic minor) ? Or is there special scales for brass ? Thanks you if you answer me, it's a bottle thrown to the sea :) Very nice performance of your vidéo, it sounds very good. Sorry for my english... See u soon ;)
