I immediately want to continue the series with Fool's Errand but RotE is becoming so special to me, I really want to savour it and take things slow. I think Liveship has now become my favourite (fantasy) series.
I’m watching this a week and a half after you posted this because I’ve been reading these books for the first time on Matt on Books’ schedule (and joined in on his livestreams). I finished Ship of Destiny at the end of June and was looking for a discussion about the trilogy. I enjoyed the trilogy but not as much as the Farseer trilogy which I loved. I struggled some with Ship of Destiny. I’m just beginning this video and see that all three of you adore these “ship books,” and I appear to be in the minority. I’m interested to hear “the majority” thoughts.
Even though I think the liveship books are really good, I also prefer the Fitz books and like Farseer more, just on a personal level. So you are definitely not alone :) I hope you continue to enjoy the realm of the elderlings!
You are definitely not alone, and the Liveships trilogy isn't my personal favourite within RotE either. The Fitz books will always have my heart. Liveships I think gains value on reflection. The trilogy is the most tightly written of the series and stands most strongly without needing context from the rest of the saga. That's not to say it doesn't improve as you GET more context, but it isn't as necessary as it is to raise the value of say, Assassin's Quest. I hope you're enjoying the journey, and I'm curious if Matt's including the Piebald Prince novella between Liveships and Tawny Man? Thanks for listening to us mostly just gush though.
