      Yay yourself Brooke! It's great to see you again 😀 I hope life is treating you, if not kindly, at least not cruelly.

      Emily! Hi lovely! Of course I'll shout you out, I think your lens on Rain Wilds is an incredible one - and added significantly to the richness of my re-reads since, I want *more* readers to be able to see so much!
      Rain Wilds is constantly improving in my re-reads, due in part to how many lenses it CAN be read through - it's far more nuanced that I could ever have imagined in my initial days of disappointment.

    I remember my sister picked up Assassins Apprentice at an airport in the 90’s, read it on her holiday and upon returning home told me to read it immediately, at that time it was the only one published and I remember the interminable wait for each new release! In hindsight I think re-reading each book again before the release of the next was so beneficial to understanding the story and really getting to know the characters . Like Derry I’ve read the whole thing (except Rainwilds) multiple times, I’m leaving it a while before the next read through which will include all the books, so it’s lovely to watch fellow fans relive my favourite story.

      Oh absolutely! I was surprisingly late to the party, not finding RoTE until late 1999, but I think I've sufficiently made up for lost time 😂. I can genuinely recommend including Rain Wilds in your next re-read though - there's a *surprising* amount of value in it. I've made the effort in the last few years (like you didn't always include it in a re-read), and in being more willing to see things, I'VE SEEN THINGS.
      As for the value in general of re-reading each book before the release of the next, I 100% agree with you. In being constantly 'fresh' I think it's easier to see the patterns forming (even if some take me 23+ years, and a livestream with Yolanda to catch them!) and the emphasis on the more subtle story being played out.
      Thanks for visiting 👋

    On Althea havinf to live on Paragon, seeing Kennitt's eyes daily and how upset we are for her- that experience reflects many people's experience with trauma- they sadly are not able to eacape the person who violates them.

      @derrisreaditbefore  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Exactly Emily, and I'm relieved I can finally put into words what real life trauma this is reflecting. The catharsis felt while reading RoTE works on so many levels, that it's no wonder there are readers who can't put into words just *why* it affected them so deeply.

    I was utterly captivated by Bilbo's biscuit baking.
    In all seriousness... This discussion was so wonderful. I cried, I was gleeful, and I was overjoyed with you both as you discussed the series. Might just say "screw you" to my TBR (yet again) and just carry on with my re-read.

      Darling Evie... you know you want to... and now you *have* to, because the Perseverance/Bee and Burrich/Patience echo needs to be explored!

    Hi Derri! I completed the Realm of the Elderlings last year and I cannot stress just how profoundly this series affected me (and so many other readers!). This discussion was such a joy to watch, two people who also love the series dearly, hearing your insights, understandings and connections, seeing you discover new parallels (live on stream!) still after 23 rereads. It was incredible to witness! Thank you so much for sharing your love and passion for this series and for making my experience of it all the richer ❤ Just like Yolanda, I am itching to get into my reread and experience this magnificent tale in a completely different way. Thank you thank you thank you 😊❤

      Oh, Oxigenorik, that's the loveliest thing anyone could say.
      I'm glad you've had a similar experience as we have, being deeply impacted by what so many people insist on calling a 'depressing' story, can be oddly isolating! Thankfully, I, Yolanda, and you, have all found book-tube, and can glory in each others enjoyment.
      I'm not sure if you follow anyone else who's read the saga, but I found booktube through Jimmy, @The Fantasy Nuttwork as he made his way through the series, more recently Philip @PhilipChase and Mike @Mike'sbookreviews buddy read the series, and from there the rabbit hole into booktube is endless 😆
      Last - go on, re-read - you won't believe how much *was always there* that you didn't even realize 😉

      I've been a BookTube lurker for a while now and have followed some of the other discussions (yours and on some of the channels you mentioned, Evie too!) as I've gone along 😊 I got the beautiful illustrated editions of Farseer for Christmas so I'll delve into those for my reread quite soon 😍

    Great discussion between you two.
    Fitz also ended up claiming the name Tom for himself, I assume in respect for Patience with Tom Badgerlock.

      @derrisreaditbefore  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Tacoriffic (ok, that's a cool username), yup, Fitz surely did, and that's the beauty of what ❤️Hobb❤️ is able to do, in using the name Tom for his 'secret identity', Fitz brought it full circle, completing the arc begun by his Father using it as code for Verity to check on him. The name Tom hides him in plain sight, and always has. ❤️Hobb's❤️ writing is truly genius.

    Thank you for sharing!! I am currently absorbed in Fitz and his story. I’ve read the complete realm and now I’m getting ready to finish tawny man trilogy on reread. No one in my personal life has any clue of these masterpieces so it’s a wonderful privilege to hear your thoughts.

      Welcome Netta! Having read these with no-one to talk to for so many years, I know how difficult it is, when you just want to share how much you love them!
      If you haven't already, I *highly* recommend joining the various discord communities that booktube shares behind the YT cameras. I don't have my own server, but whoever else you may follow here may - joining the community was the best thing I ever did. If you aren't sure where to start, try @Mattonbooks, @RedFuryReads, or @JohannaReads, they share a single server (The Fireside), and is a lovely one to start with. Feel free to add me as a friend, I'm Derri loves Queen Hobb.

      Hi hi hi!!!
      Thanks for popping by 😀 and *of course* you loved Malta - there's an exception to every rule! Seriously, how? I've always found her to be utterly intolerable as the epitome of 'spoiled child', which makes you a much better person than I am.
