I really do promise to try not to overtake the conversation EVERY time I talk to you - I just get over excited. Next time will have to be when you have a few more Discworld books under your belt 😉

Mads, you are welcome and invited, and in all ways already part of the channel - anyone with as much love in their heart for this story can only ever be a soul deep friend. Fragile is allowed, we love you regardless.

Thanks Jennifer, it brings me so much joy to help people process when they get to the end and have the 'I HAVE TO TALK TO SOMEONE' feeling, so knowing you love it too makes it all the more special.

I just want to say thank you for such a wonderful discussion. I could listen to the both of you talk about the Realm of the Elderlings for hours, days, longer.
I appreciate the need for spoiler free reviews but I loved the spoiler discussion so you didn’t have to tiptoe around plot points etc.
Please do it again! By chapter, book, trilogy (and quartet), by character, geographical setting, anything!

Hahahahaa I'm not joking when I say I've thought about that level of dissection. When life returns to 'normal', I'll be looking to invite guests who would be happy to look at specific events/chapters/themes some more, as the conversations are incredibly rewarding.
As for going full spoiler, with a series this long, I kind of have to. Once you get past books 4, 5, 6... everything relies on knowledge gained there, so spoiler-free is virtually impossible, I will be trying to complete my individual book videos as spoiler free as I can though.
      Cheers

Loved this discussion! You're making me want to start my re-read now, but I've got to revisit Stormlight first. Hope you have more discussions. Loved the entire series.

Hi Ivan, I hope your little brother reads it too! Admittedly, I hope as many readers as possible find this series, but to have someone in your REAL life to talk with about these books would be simply wonderful! You could maybe do a buddy read with him, and get your re-read done at the same time... just a suggestion 😉
Thank you for coming to visit the channel and hang out while I yet again talked Philip's ear off - it's a terrible habit, that I keep promising to do better with 🤦

This is so timely! I finished Assassin's Fate last night 🥹
I dont know how I feel about The Fool at the end of it...I understand the degree to his trauma, so its not that he's behaving unrealistically. But it doesn't necessarily change how I feel about his actions.
Sometimes, it's small things like him repeatedly telling Fitz he's also Bee's father...True or not, its insensitive given the situation. Should he not know how Fitz would feel about him saying that? When the poor man is already so insecure about his failures? And fatherhood is a lot more than just parentage. Fitz was Bee's father. Fool wasnt there. And I love that Bee gives him the sass he deserves for it.
On Paragon, I agree he did the right thing...But he also upended Althea/Brashen's life overnight. Was there not a more sensitive way to go about things?
And then theres the sneaking into Clerres and jeapordizing their mission 🤦🏽‍♂️
Ultimately though, this series was beautiful. I think, like Philip, Tawny man hit me harder in the feels, but I still loved Fitz & The Fool. I'm so glad I went on this beautiful journey.

I agree with everything you just said, and for me, that's the joy of reading ❤️Hobb ❤️. She can help you see so many sides to a situation that you understand how complex the seemingly simple moments are.
I too love Tawny Man more, yet feel that Fitz and the Fool closed out Fitz' story in a beautiful way. I mean, how could I not be happy when the closing line is "Kettricken smiled."?

I think that Hobb did a good job of setting up the possibility of Wolf Father throughout the stories. Hobb established that Fitz was unique or at least rare in his ability to use both the wit and skill. It is mentioned that Fitz and Nighteyes' bond was intertwined together more than the usual wit bond. Fitz shared Nighteyes' body for a time where their essence probably intermingled (just like Fitz and Fool's did). We saw Nighteyes attack others through Fitz's skill. Fitz talks about having thoughts that sound and feel like they were from Nighteyes after he was gone. And Fitz mentioned the entities that are moving around the skill stream earlier in the series. All this helps to hint at and explain how Nighteyes could come back into the story.

    • @derrisreaditbefore
      @derrisreaditbefore  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Exactly. When I find I need to explain it to the more confused readers, I compare Fitz and Nighteyes at the beginning of Assassins's Quest to individual glasses, one of water, the other of orange juice - when they lived in Nighteyes' body, those glasses were combined, and when they separated back into two bodies, the glasses became individual again - but the liquid can't now be separated - they've become ONE entity in two vessels, then the same thing happened again at the end of Fool's Fate. The three of them are a whole when together (which is why the beginning of Fool's Errand remains my favorite section of the entire saga), never quite fully realized when apart.
Exquisite writing, and so wonderfully satisfying to read - Nighteye's pride in Bee leaps off the page, and I could FEEL how much courage that gave her....
Thank you so much for coming, I hope to see you again.
