This is the exact video I've been looking for for so long now! All of these other tutorials focus so much on how to get the tech working, but so few focus on how that should interact with the actual music. I commend you for this, and I think this should be required viewing for any new DJs.

One question (maybe next video idea) is how do you make that color coded space below the track that says intro 1, intro 2, chorus 1, etc.?

Then you can just use this guide to play around with them cdn.rekordbox.com/files/20200312172204/rekordbox5.1.0_Phrase_Edit_operation_guide_EN.pdf

This is how I have been DJing for over 30 years. I do it SLIGHTLY different though: instead of bars, I count to 32 (each beat is 1). After 32 beats (or counts), that's when the mixing happens. Hard to explain without video, but it is basically the same as Zeeshan explains. Excellent video!!

Very detailed yet concise explanation, huge respect bro. As a open format dj, i use to strictly follow the phrase mixing rules, but recently found out those great djs (dj jazzy Jeff, joe lobel….) never phrase mix, yet their transition still sounds smooth and dope🤷‍♂️

@@spidyman14 Check this out: th-cam.com/video/IvPdwoppGw4/w-d-xo.html; This is a dj set by DJ jazzy jeff, none of his transitions were phrase mixing.... I think he focused more on giving the dance floor surprises instead of seamless transitions. I think phrase mixing is only important in house scene

What a great explanation 👏 I’ve been struggling with getting my head around this for the past year.
Just to double check if I want to mix out after the chorus I would essentially see how many bars the into is on incoming track then at the end of the chorus on master song go back the same amount of bars as the intro I’m bout to mix in and they should line up? 😅

Thank you for explaining this so simply. One question I was wondering for you or any other DJs in the comments who might be of help. I’m learning to DJ techno music at the moment. Something I was confused about is how for example you know how long an intro is. For example you said one song had a 16 bar intro and one had an 8 bar intro so you knew to play one half way through the other. Is there a way to know how long these segments are during the set? Or do you manually prepare every song and have them studied before hand?
