    In this video I show you potential fixes for your Samsung TV that powers up and turns on with back lights but has no picture. I would start with replacing the Tcon board and if that doesn't fix it then replace the main board if that still doesn't fix it then it is a bad panel which is not fixable.

    Great video. I had no backlights or video but sound. Had 25/60 backlights burnt out. Changed backlights & now backlights work, but still no video. It's a 50" Samsung also. So I'm also wrestling on what to do. Thanks for the tidbit on removing 1 side of panel by removing cable. Never thought of that. Thanks again

    It’s not bad panel, it’s the led driver one of the ribbons is bad. On the left ribbon coming from the tcon , put a little masking tape covering about ten pins, and so on. This disables any of the connectors in the bad side of panel because these work paralel so you’re basically skipping one and the tv will be back working 100%

    • @johnp7933

      Your trick works, however, it is not the ribbon cable thats is bad, the pannel is bad, the way the tape trick work is by blocking the signal going to the bad side of the panel.

    i had a problem with my kdl-60nx810 sony I couldnt determine weather the tcon or the mainboard is the problem. i tried removing the cable that goes to the mainboard and the tcon still has the supply then I turned it on, then the screen turns to like color mode testing which displays color such as red green blue and gray and some shadowing. now I'm confused which one to change the mainboard or the tcon.

    Good job disconnecting the one side of the tv as part of the diagnosis. There are two more things you can try. Did you ensure the problem wasn’t one of the tab bonds lifting on the buffer board? Also, on the buffer board, you can check for shorts. Maybe there is a shorted cap?

    Nice video - and unlike pretty much every other video you actually cover the whole process and LOGIC of why it would be a certain component and how to determine it with certainty. THANK YOU. I replaced my t-con and main board in a Samsung UN43 - I had power, backlights, sound but no picture. Replaced the boards, had the same damn thing. It's not my tv, it's a friends, so not the same hdmi cable or video source. Screen does light up at -2- levels of intensity, but only backlighting. Menu/source buttons result in no change. I messed with it every which way for an hour. Then friend said she used a firestick, so for the f*ck of it I plugged in a blank USB stick. Bam. Power on and see SMART-TV logo. WTF? I swear this is exact in every detail (as a software engineer I do not miss the details LOL I also do not understand why being a software engineer makes my friends think I can repair TVs or cell phones LOL).
    Can you offer any insight as to WHY and HOW the usb stick would cause the damn tv to start working? After that, Directv works fine, video, sound menus etc..

  • @Sloxx701
    @Sloxx701 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    This is most likely a faulty or shorted address or clock line in the lcd panel. A short in these signal lines of the panel will drag the voltage down on the TCON ASIC forcing it to shut down. Since these signals are redundant and get driven from both sides, you can block one completely and the other will still drive the panel just fine. The are various ways to repair this, but much of the time people have been using scotch tape but if you have an oscilloscope, you can narrow it down without guessing. FrugalRepair has a good video on the tape method.

  • @BrandonElliotSmith
    @BrandonElliotSmith 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    @TipsNNTricks So I’m assuming (& PRAYING) that it’s simply a bad T-con board rather than a bad panel if you get backlights but no picture whatsoever (regardless of how you connect one or BOTH t-con>panel ribbons)??? That’s what I’m dealing with, in addition to constant restarts once I try to turn it on. Replaced a puffy cap on the power board & the problem continued. Then replaced the main board & it still does the same thing. T-con board arrives this week & I’m praying that fixes it because this TV was a dumpster find & legit LOOKS brand new. I looked for burnt sections on the power board & saw none, plus all voltages on the power board checked out ok, so just a bit stumped here (especially with the restarts). One thing I’ll also mention is that the T-con board does not have ANY leds lighting up & I’m not sure if my particular model simply doesn’t have any installed by design or if leds ARE installed but simply not lighting lol. Mine is a Samsung UN46D6420UFXZA

    • @yokozunad
      @yokozunad ปีที่แล้ว

      How'd the replacement T-con board work out for you?

    • @BrandonElliotSmith
      @BrandonElliotSmith ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yokozunad Well it's been a little while, but from what I remember, I was finally able to get a picture AND resolve the issue with the constant resets after replacing the tcon board.. BUT I did all of that (in addition to the prior part replacements) only to learn that the picture had horizontal lines going across it about every half inch. So I tried the "scotch tape trick" on the ribbon cable/connector that leads from the T-Con board to the panel, but just couldn't get around the "horizontal lines" issue even with that. Finally gave up about a month ago, & after several months of having that TV just sitting in my place on its side, I put it right back where I found it (in the dumpster lol), but NOT before pulling all the salvageable internal parts (including but not limited to the ones I purchased while I was in the troubleshooting process). Kinda petty on my part, but I just couldn't fathom the thought of someone else A. benefiting from all of my costly hard work/troubleshooting, B. taking the parts I purchased+reselling them &/or C. going through all of the same steps I already followed just to end up having the same experience lol. Really loved that series & wish I could get my hands on one, but in reality, we're in the 4K era now so goin back to a 1080P set is kinda silly at this point.

  • @monkeyking-self-proclaimed7050

    When you can get it to work with one side of the ribbon off, that means you have block signals according to a lot of TH-cam channels that do the repair. You'll have to figure out which ones are blocked and just scrape off the connections and they should work.
    I have a different issue where removing the ribbons one at a time did not work. I bought a repair kit as I am not good at troubleshooting. I did check the components suggested by some channels and they appear to be good. I found a good deal for the kit so I decided to buy it. Turns out maybe it was another bad part or my panels are bad. I'll continue to troubleshoot or maybe take it to a repair shop. Hate to throw it away because it's a 65 inch 4K TV.

If you can see a bulged one you can try to replace it, or all of them on that side, otherwise I think you have un-solder Caps to test them which sucks (let me know if there is a way to test them without un-soldering). You can try moving the ribbons tht connect directly to the panel to test as there could be a broken wire in one, but you can't replace those ribbons, that'd be just for a test to see if its worth it to fix other stuff.

    I've replaced the burnt-out LED strips, I've replaced the T-CON board. Samsung ue48h6240ak TV. My removing one side of the ribbon cable for the T-CON board like shown here, it allows all LED lights to power up, but nothing appears on either side of the screen. It's just light but black, any ideas on whether this would be panel, power or mainboard?

    What you should do is to cut a piece of paper about 1 to 2 cm and place it under the connector of the side of the screen that has no video this will blocked out a section of the contacts which is causing the problem you may have to move it along the slot until you find the area that is causing the problem raadam picture is back.

    There's a COF strip that is attached to the side of the panel. It controls the horizontal part of the panel. It's more likely damaged. If you are about to throw the TV away, you should try this first. On the side of the damage side, tear it out carefully. This fix is irreversible! There is a video on how to do this. I had the same problem with my 70" and it worked. Good luck.
