Samsung TV Main board was bad. Here's how I figured it out. Model # UN32EH5300FXZA.

  • www.tvrepairinfo.com/ The television I repaired in this video is a Samsung UN32EH5300FXZA. I had mis-stated the model number in this video so please take note. This TV came in my shop dead. My first guess was bad LEDs since I see this so often, but it turned out to be a bad main board. One common characteristic of a defective main board is that if the TV does happen to turn on at all, and you press the power off button often times the TV doesn't respond and remains on. One other thing that surprised me about this particular model was that unplugging the main board allowed the back lights to come on. Normally the power supply doesn't turn on unless it gets a 5 volt turn on voltage from the main board, but on this model unplugging the main board did enable the back lights to come on.

    Thanks for posting this video, I’m dealing with the same kinda issue, in my case, my Samsung 4K tv wouldn’t fully turn off, it would turn off then turn back on seconds later, the remote became unresponsive, and my only temporary fix was to unplug it, but even then the tv would turn itself on again. The TV is not even 3 years old and I spent a lot on it so I felt like my only option was to have it fixed.

      @@stevensheffey731 sounds like a bad motherboard. In my situation, I had an older Monster Power center that these newer TVs didnt like, caused my Samsung's motherboard to go, I end up having it fixed, then sold it. Plugged my Sony OLED into the same Power Center, had the same issues. After having to have Geek Squad come out and swap the mother board (luckily under warranty), I had mentioned the only common denominator was the power center, they said they had never heard of an issue like that ever happening. They fix my Sony, I plug it back into the Power Center, and guess what? Excellent video! I am having almost the exact same issues with my Panasonic TC-39AS530U. TV turns on, screen flickers 3 times (I can see the LED lights flickering in the back), then I get a blank screen with 1 LED flicker (error code 1 I assume) then just a slowly blinking red LED. There is no sound and I can't turn it off with the remote. I have to press and hold the power button on the side of the unit or unplug it to turn it off. I have tested my power supply board. ALL 3 test points (standby, LED driver, and main board) maintain voltage when it goes from power on to blinking light. However, the pins on the connector for the main board and driver board go from 16V and 24V respectively down to 0 when the light starts to blink.
    There are 3 test points on the main board, 5.3V, 12V, and 15V. The 5.3V (standby) maintains voltage when it goes from power on to blinking light, the other two do not, they go to 0. Would that, along with voltages being maintained on the power supply board, indicate that this main board is bad? I really hope that is the case as I do not want to get into replacing LED strips. Thanks and keep up the great work! P.S. I have put in new power supply and T-con boards and the problem continues.

    I'm in the dying field of after market TV repair and happened to pick up on what you said; "You KNOW it's the main board - but replaced all three"? But the power supply was low output on all legs. I Didn't hear you say that you unplugged the power supply cable to the main board to isolate it from the power supply (divide and conquer technique). God bless you for making a video and explaining you can get all three for $50.00. You're leaving a lot to the imagination of someone who stumbles upon this video though. 51% thumb up (for the effort).

    I have a Samsung 40" TV that started having some kind of noise and green screen once in a while. After some time, the problem started getting worse. After reading some info on internet, I decided to change some ICs and tantalum capacitors on the main board. Now TV does not turn on, but I see the classical blinking red LED forever, and the TV does not start. I took some measurements on the connector between mainboard and power supply, and they are more on low side (ex: instead of 5.3V, I get 4.99V; instead of 13V, I set 12.5V). I checked the main capacitors (dissoldered them and measured with LCR meter), and they are good. Would this little voltage difference be an issue or it within the accepted tolerance? Also, when I disconnected the main board from the power supply, I did not see the backlight turning on. Which board appears to be faulty in your opinion?

    With the Samsungs Series C and later you just have to pull the plug to the main board to start the power supply fully, including the backlight. If that works ok, it's the main's fault. Pretty clever, actually. Samsung has the opposit signal level (0V, low) for power supply activation compared to other brands.

    Hi, thanks for all your greate videos. I need your help please with my Philips Tv (37PFL5604H/12). TV only shows a red light blinking 3 times every 2 seconds. A curiose thing is that when i do the manual software upgrade (reconnecting the TV to the Mains/AC Power while pressing "ok" button) the tv starts to work perfectly. The problem is that every time i turn off the TV the blinking red light returns, and the tv will not work again till i install the software again. Thank you very much.

Not to mention the tv completely freezes on any given image and turns off after the frozen image then turns back on again. What would you recommend? This same work? i got this really nice Samsung TV un55es8000 for $80 I believe due to this issue but its almost in new condition and the price was a steal, wouldn't want to loose it. I can't guess at the problem, but many parts run hot by their very nature, and that's not necessarily a problem unless the part is shorted or malfunctoning.

    • @GrantsPassTVRepair
      @GrantsPassTVRepair  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't tell you which one, but if I had the TV in front of me I'd be checking to see if the power supply is getting an enable voltage from the main board. The enable voltage tells the power supply to turn on. The enable voltage terminal on the power supply might be called PS on, On, or power on, and it's often 5 volts.

    Hello, i have a situation where lightning struck my samsung that uses bn44-00715a power supply. When I plugged it in the backlight came on automatically. I was checking voltages then plugged in the main board and it toasted the ic206 chip. I'm wandering if there is anyway to tell if the led panel is fried before I purchase power supply and main board? Thanks. The standby voltage is always 13vdc. I know I should have stopped and changed the power supply first but I screwed up. Now the backlight doesn't come on like it was although I have dc voltage going to it. I'm not sure what the voltages should be.

    • @GrantsPassTVRepair
      @GrantsPassTVRepair  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      One never knows how bad the damage is when Lightning strikes a TV, But I would think your panel might have survived since it isn't the first in line to get zapped. I'd be suspect of the main board and power supply.

    • @jjcuna
      @jjcuna 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Grants Pass TV Repair Thanks for the reply. My concern was now I plug the power supply in, the backlight doesn't come on anymore. I have dc voltage going to the ribbon though. The model number is un46h7150afxza (samsung). I'm sure the power supply has issues because I unplugged everything other than the led ribbon and it lit up(until I fooled with it). Do you think it's worth spending $250 on power supply and main board?

    • @GrantsPassTVRepair
      @GrantsPassTVRepair  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since the power supply is generally the first circuit board to take a hit from lightning, I would suspect it may have a problem, and the other boards could be okay, but that's just a guess. Sometimes a lightning strike through the AC cord is so strong, it may have effected other boards as well.

    Hi, I am currently diagnosing the issue with my Samsung TV. The light will blink red, screen not turn on, and you heard a clicking sound, which I discovered was the power board once I took the back cover off the TV. I immediately saw a small burn (about 1/2 inch diameter) where two DSC 2.5D-15 Thermistors were. I assume this means I will have to replace the board, but I am just wondering, what could have caused this in the first place and will it happen again if I replace the unit? Thanks!

      I had this issue. And get ready for a headache if i am right. Tvs purchased before 2009 were transitioning from ccfl (Cold cathode fluorescent lights) to LED (most tvs circa 2010).
      Much like flourecent tubes in your basic office building these tubes dont last forever and when they go bad they flicker/short and blow out.
      Now for 20 bucks you can fix the problem if you are handy and dont mind a headache. You will have to strip your tv down to the ccfl lighting. Remove the bulbs, preferably all of them.
      Wire LED strips in parallel and run it to a 12 v supply off the power supply. Minor things to worry about, all your caps on the power supply are good (not bulging) and that the lights turn on with power button pressed.
      You will be unable to dim your lighting but it will fix your issue.
      There are lots of youtube vids showing installing led light strips in led tv

    Hi, I’m hoping you can help me out. I have a 55 Samsung KU6290 that is having an issue. The picture and sound is great, so I don’t want to have to replace it unless I have too.
    What is happening is that sometimes when I turn it on, it will turn on but then it immediately turns off and the indicator led will start flashing red. If I try to turn it back on, it will not. however, I am able to get it to turn back on if I unplug it from the wall outlet and leave it unplugged for like 2+ hours. After I plug it back in, it turns on and works like normal. I’m able to even power it off and back on like normal until it wants to mess up again and then I got to repeat the process.
    Anyways, do you think This sounds like a power supply problem? Would replacing just that board (BN94-10712A) correct this issue?

    Hi, very informative video. Question: when you explain about the logic board clue being at fault, and that a way to know this is bcuz it doesn't recognize you pressing the power off button,, can you say which button? The remote control button or the Tv's on/off button? Because on my Samsung UN55J620DAF, which just suffered some sort of melt down, turns on with remote or Tv button, but Only turns off with remote, not the Tv button. The red standby light flashes 4x and stops when I press to turn on. I am currently checking it bcuz a few days ago, as we watched Tv, we began to hear crackling at the rear of Tv and it went dim blue, then black. It turned off with remote, but I disconnected everything off the wall outlet as precaution, bcuz I also smelled burnt wire. Watching pertaining videos, I checked fuse, its good. I inspected all 3 boards and only at the power supply board did I see like melted wire plastic. I could not see anything unusual on the main green board, it has a red lit port. The T-con board seemed ok as well, it has blue lights when I power on. Odd thing is, she turns on with power button and remote, but will only turn off with remote, and the red standby light blinks 4 times and stops. I tested all LEDs thru the corresponding wire leads and many did not light. I tested the port pins from where the LED connector goes, and it had No current going out. I did unplugged cable connector from main or logic board and did get the four 12.65v results in those leads, plus the 4.50 power on voltage of other side. One thing is for certain, I am going to replace All the LED strips with new. And I am prepared to replace the power supply board as well. However, I am not sure about the green logic/main board. What say ye..? I'd appreciate any input. (incidentally, this Tv is 7yrs old, was working flawlessly)

      I find your questions very difficult to understand, If your TV is able to turn on and off using your TVs remote control it does not sound like you have any problems wich need to be addressed except for the possibility that the power button on the TV itself is not responding. In that case I suspect the power button on the TV may be defective, but if your TV works good using the remote control then just use your remote control and the problem is solved right?

      I don't remember on this one, but generally speaking if your stand by light doesn't come on, you have a power supply problem, or one of your other boards has a short which is dragging your stand by power down. I suggest you disconnect the other boards from the power supply, and then measure all the output voltages on the power supply to see if your stand by power has returned.

    My vizio turns on fine, turns off fine but no picture, backlights or sound. Last thing I saw when turning on the television was what looked like a frozen picture of colored scan lines, sounds like the cpu froze up. Turned the tv off and when I went to turn it back on, nothing. Turned on and off but no picture, backlights or sound. The back of the main board looks like parts of the board are shining, like it's wet but it's not. Probably heat damage, sounds like the main board right?

      I don't like to guess about television symptoms. If it were me I'd be testing voltages to look for better clues.

      Grants Pass TV Repair How about symptoms happening over the years of using the tv? The first thing that stopped working was the I.R censor for the remote, that's hooked up to the main board. Then some hdmi ports stopped working, that's hooked up to the board. Lastly, audio coming through hdmi would be fine for an hour or so and then it would sound like a distorted echo, unplug the hdmi and plug it back in and it would work normally again. And the vizio symbol still lights up and shuts off when I turn the tv on and off. I don't have a voltage checker so I'm going with probability here. Too bad I can't find the cbpfrd1ka1 main board for sale anywhere on the internet.

      Yes the main board does sound like a good suspect. Nevertheless I still like to take a few voltage measurements on it, as well as the other boards to look for additional clues. Due to the lower cost on new TVs often times they just aren't worth the effort.

      This is just a guess, but it sounds like a main board related issue.

      It sounds like several possibilities. One of them being bad back lights causing the TV to go into shut down, or possibly a main board issue not allowing the TV to boot up. I have a whole series of videos you might find helpful at www.tvrepairinfo.com
