    I don't like how you said that he endorsed this diet. He has said many times that he doesn't think people should take his eating advice as he's not a dietician. He and his daughter went on this diet because they had incredible auto immune issues that do not apply to most of the population. He didn't do it for weight loss either, that was just a side effect.

    • @supercrazylegs1
      @supercrazylegs1 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +25

      He IS endorsing it, because he's acting smug and condescending when describing the diet, lying outright when he says that humans don't need Vitamin C, and claiming that this diet solved all of his health problems. Peterson knows that he has an enormous and devoted fan base who cling to everything he says, and making claims like this is dangerous.

      Inuit diets are far far more diverse than this, like incomparably more diverse. Both historically and today Inuit diets include a variety of fish, other seafood, and marine mammals. Meat from these marine mammals also have a completely different nutrient profile than beef, including more nutrients including vitamin c, particularly when you include the blubber, skin and organ meats which are some of the most common foods and also considered highly nutritious delicacies. Inuit have also both historically and today eat a variety of high nutrient density vegetarian foods such as a variety of seasonal greens and berries. While these are more common at certain times of the year, berries in particular are surprisingly preservable, so would have even historically been eaten for much of the year. We see similar diets among Scandinavians and the indigenous Sami people of Russia and Scandinavia, and though at certain points in the year they rely heavily on meat, they still have very diverse diets even at the coldest time of year.

      @@tomasscully997 That is amazing to hear! My father is a bit younger, pushing 60. Before carnivore (2 years) he was keto since 2015. Before then he had to take Omeprazole every day, had to take all sorts of pills to control all sorts of things. He had a belly that he never was able to lose, and getting fatter and fatter. There are quite a lot of things that changed after he went that direction, including naturally feeling leas hungry and no more cravings, longer bike rides and training more at the gym. No energy boosts and dives, more stable throughout the day. Mental clarity, according to him. I hate to sound like I'm getting pulled into a cult, because it all does indeed sound too good to be true!
      I just wish that there were more studies about this diet, and not the "low-carb" that consists of 30% carbs, but a true low-carb, just to REALLY know because my second-hand experience doesn't align at all with what I hear from conventional nutritional information!

    So, I have primary immunodeficiency, I.e. my immune system is on vacation 90% of the time. So, it’s allergy time. I’m allergic to a lot, including food. I can’t eat entire food groups. I’m allergic to dairy, all grains (not gluten….grains!!), legumes, nightshades, eggs, most nuts and seeds, and the allergies extend to things like oil and spices. I’m under the care of multiple doctors because it has me at a high risk of multiple deficiencies. No one would ever choose to eat this way for the term of their life. You only do it out of necessity. You miss out on so much life if you accidentally misstep. I was violently ill at my younger sisters wedding. The caterer was given my list of allergies. As I was eating it, I knew something was wrong. They used vegetable oil, which has canola and corn. It would have been kinder to end me.

Plus beyond domesticated plants (which is a key point) they are over fed macronutrients and simple mineral ions to the point of primary and secondary metabolic dysfunction - in that they are deficient in much of the nutrients and health promoting phytochemicals but also totally different secondary metabolite profiles which expressed as antinutrients and health reducing phytochemicals

As much as provided disclaimers, he spouts blatant misinformation which people could easily be influenced by, and that is important to address. Celebrities are constantly doing this - saying "this is just what worked for me" to negate blame when they know how the celebrity/influencer model works and people are likely to follow along with what they say. He should be more careful (and do more research) before he starts claiming definitive proof about things which aren't true/have no consensus as of yet.

      @Jerrie Lynn Dental professional of 10yrs here. Yes, sugar plays a huge role in dental decay. I wouldn't argue that you'd experience less cavities while excluding things from your diet that are acidic and contain sugar. However, perio disease is not caused by sugar intake, but by lack of proper oral hygiene. When we're not flossing enough or brushing properly plaque hardens. Overtime your gum tissue and bone will start to oull away from it. It does not heal itself or improve without mechanical intervention. You may never need SRP again, but that doesn't mean the issue is corrected. With perio disease comes deep pockets and some bone loss. Perio maintenence is required because you're not able to clean those areas at home.

Then he explained plaque to me, apparently, we all get plaque no matter what we eat but if we eat sugar it hardens the plaque, because my sugar intake is very low ( I still have sugar in a coffee) the plaque comes off. yay! I've never tried a carnivore diet, but I've had a lot of success with a low carb diet. It really sucks to see so much hate about it online lately. I think for many of us, it's been so empowering to feel like we have control over our symptoms.
    And some might say that low carb is good if you have something wrong with you but the average person doesn't need to do it. But 50% of Americans are diabetic or pre-diabetic. I've actually never been diagnosed formally with prediabetes, but I've spent most of my adult life without health insurance and I don't have a regular doctor.
    So in trying to treat my cystic acne and irregular cycle, I inadvertently treated my anxiety and depression. I had anxiety that would keep me up for hours every night with heart palpitations and a racing heart. I would experience feelings of rage and very dark thoughts. And by eating low carb, I completely got rid of my heart palpitations and started sleeping through the night. Yes it's anecdotal. But there's a lot of people who have had similar experiences.

    • @lily5952
      @lily5952 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm happy you have some relief. I lived with anxiety and depression for more than 10 years. I don't think it ever goes away, you learn how to manage it :) you found a good way to do that. I also follow a low carb diet. It's really beneficial even if you're just cutting refined carbs like cakes and candy. That is a scientific fact. I'm very skeptical of this new wave of obsessive thinking that takes shape in "carnivore" diets. It's not natural to only eat meat. People love to use the Inuits as an example but they are an exception to the rule. There might be genetic advantages that they have to eat that way. They live in a harsh climate where the only thing they can eat is meat. Low carb does get a lot of undeserved hate, but as a community we should stop giving credence to these extremist beliefs that all plant foods are toxic. It's simply unscientific, and that is why low carb is not widely respected.

    I have been anxiously awaiting this. I have been carnivore for 4 years. It’s the best decision I have ever made. I do believe everyone should do what works for them and their body, because everyone is different. And I won’t spout of my opinion because everyone has one, but I do know that healthy people don’t make money. So people who profit off sick people, overweight people, chronically Ill people (people with SIBO), will always push an agenda which keeps people that way. I mean, how would anyone make money if we stop eating processed trash and fast food?

    I’m usually a huge fan of Abbey’s videos but this one misses the mark. If u watch the episode fully you can hear the strain in his voice as he talks about how he has absolutely no idea what caused his chronic pain and illness, and how the carnivore diet is the only thing that has made him able to function. He shares how his daughter was on her death bed as a teenager and this diet saved both of their lives. He acknowledges that it’s insane and probably not great for most people, but for whatever reason it’s given him his life back. I would have liked to see a little more compassion and a little less ranting about vitamin C.

The diet made me feel the best I've ever felt. By a long shot. And I had been eating pretty healthy before that. It didn't help my endo but it did make my anxieaty disappear. And I didn't even know I HAD anxiety issues - I assumed everyone felt this way, that it was normal to be anxious alll the time. Only when it went away, I realised "oh, that was not normal". Now, after 2 years, I'm slowly easing back to more regular way of eating, simply because I miss variety.

    Peterson has had a well-documented extreme battle with addiction to benzodiazepines and a refusal to get proper treatment. This is not to shame him, but this was simultaneously while he was claiming this diet cured him of all his ills but more importantly a very strict self-blame form of therapy advocated in his own work. He has a very different standard for how other people should treat their addictions and problems and how he treats himself. It's not that he should be ashamed or anyone should shame him for this addiction but given the mindset he advocates for and his own issues I do not consider him a credible source on this topic or nutrition.

He was taking it as prescribed and hit trouble withdrawing from it, which is very common. In fact, I provide peer support in groups that center around psych medication withdrawal, and this is a common occurrence. Doctors often take their patients off their benzos too fast, or they go into detox which is, again, too fast and traumatizing. This has left many, many people with long-term psych, neuro, and physical issues.

    Here's the deal with Carnivore Diet as it relates to scurvy ...
    1. Fresh meat does have Vit-C because the animal needed to have that, just like we do. Military organizations have known for centuries that you can cure scurvy in the troops by feeding them fresh meat, and it was the sailors who only ate ships biscuits that got scurvy, not the officers who also got dried meats (even dried it retains enough).
    2. Meat doesn't have high levels of Vit-C like say fruit, but as carnivores, we also doesn't need to have such high levels, because the Vit-C and glucose compete for the same transport channels in our cells, so operating with no carbs means we have much better use of the available Vit-C.
    3. One of the primary functions of Vit-C is in the synthesis of collagen (hence why the symptoms of scurvy are derived from a lack of collagen), but of course on a whole animal based diet, we're actually consuming collagen in much greater quantities than on a SAD diet, so there's much less demand for that function.
    At 60yo, I've been carnivore for about 2 years now (keto for 3), and my collagen situation is doing just great (skin is in way better condition, gum health is great and dental issues non-existent), my previously high blood pressure is 120/80, my arthritis is gone, underactive thyroid is normal again, my pre-diabetes has reversed, I've lost 40Kg, fatty liver disease is gone, my mood is much improved, my energy and mental focus is way better, and best of all, I'm on zero medication.
    In the balance of things, your snarky remarks don't stack up well against such actual results. I'd suggest doing more research.
    I would say the main down-side is with social eating, but I get by - people don't seem to mind if you just eat the meat on your plate and leave the rest.

      It is cool to think about it all and critisize it as mostly healthy person. I get sick of being sick after two weeks. He and his daughter experienced ilnesses affecting they’re lives in major way, especially daughter. Like basically having almost no life outside of ilness.

      While I sympathize with the health challenges that brought about this extreme diet (arthritis for Mikhaila and depression for Jordan), I can also criticize his choice to promote it given the inherent dangers of such a restricted and imbalanced way of eating. Joe Rogan brought him on as a guest to talk about this diet, which Mikhaila has been promoting/monetizing through her blog. Interestingly enough neither of them still follow this way of eating, which is rather telling. The diet itself is not backed by research so what likely helped these folks was not the magic of beef but the placebo effect. Jordan Peterson is a self-important, fascist so his diet and his scummy promotion of it is but one of his many detractors.

He is also quite educated in both facism and communism (which people in West generally don’t understand at all, and I am talking about it as tourguide from post communist country that does communism tours for westerners).
      You need to not know anything about him beside some clips to come to that conclusion. You are literally proving by this comment that you didn’t watch him: you were searching what could be misrepresented in his statements.
      Also he clearly stated he is not recommending it. And when Mikhaila discussed it at Oxford Union, she supported it with researches, and basically just said that it should be discussed, as there are people who could get help in this. This diet is for desperate needs, but desperate needs call for desperate solutions.
      For analogy: are people who e.g. after SA, came back to functioning in their sexuality by very pathological behaviours, and share it later on as „this was my experience and my way of dealing” promoting pathological sexual behaviours?

    While I agree with you about the ridiculousness of this diet, I don't understand the need to demonize all red meat. I grew up in a family of hunters, we've always eaten a diet consisting of a high amount of venison. Yes it's red meat, but incredibly lean and healthy.

    • @tofuprincess1161
      @tofuprincess1161 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It isn't demonising, it's talking about the facts with the studies (or lack of, as a form of evidence in itself) to back it up. Your personal family history does not equate to the truth. Hunting wild has its own benefits, meat varies in quality across the world and depending on food standards per country. But the science does indicate that red meat can aggravate health conditions, including cancer, and people should keep this in mind.

    • @tofuprincess1161
      @tofuprincess1161 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @TH-cam Account Yes it does. This isn't about clickbait articles but actual recommendations from health organisations (NHS, WHO) about red meat consumption. Are you implying that they are all misrepresenting the facts? A simple google churns up studies and reviews of studies by A. Wolk, Sabine Rohermann, Evelyne Battaglia Richi & et al., Xia Wang et al, Kyuwoong Kim et al. There are studies which also recommend a reassessment of the impacts of red meat in specifically low quantities (aka its okay in smaller quantities). Much more work is needed in the field, but it isn't disingenuous to imply that studies point toward red meat aggravating health conditions, especially in larger quantities.

    If I have a busy day I don’t eat as much because I will get brain fog and become very tired. Digestion takes so much energy and my body is trying to deal with all of the other issues so sometimes digesting food is the last thing it needs to be dealing with. I developed terrible, itchy rashes from eating fruits because of the sugar.
    My point to all of this is that until you have a chronic, inflammatory condition maybe we shouldn’t be so judgemental on what other people do in order to keep going every day.
    He didn’t do this diet to lose weight and neither did his daughter who had major health issues since she was a child. If they feel better and can function better then good on them.
    People make fun of the way I eat and while I would love to eat the things that nutritionists say we need in our diet (gluten, dairy and fruit), I would be in agony. I went from not being able to work for two years to being able to clear up many of my physical symptoms from mainly changing my diet.

    Inuit diets are far far more diverse than this, like incomparably more diverse and historically were really not restrictive at all. Both historically and today Inuit diets include a variety of fish, other seafood, and a variety of types of meat from a variety of marine mammals.

    • @faunivore9485

      IIRC, marine mammals also contain some glycogen in their meat, meaning that the Inuits weren’t eating pure protein and fat when they ate these animals anyway.
      Almost all of the tribes/societies that modern carnivore dieters tout as being carnivorous do include some plant foods, and/or eat animals/animal parts that modern dieters do not. You cannot compare the Maasai diet (which includes raw milk and cow blood) to a modern carnivore dieter eating nothing but steak and say, “See! The Maasai eat carnivore too so it’s healthy!” The diets are not comparable. But they do it anyway.

    The carnivore turned my life around. I’ll never go back to your way of eating. I eat for 10$ a day. I lost 20 pounds. Blood pressure down from 140/100 to 110/80. Normalized blood sugar. My gut is so much better as well. No fiber equals one BM every 2-3 days. No farting. My joints got better. Every time I had a bolus of carbs my hands would swell and become painful. Decreased inflammation big time. I don’t have to think about what I’m having…as long as it’s animal based. People talk about it being boring…..that simply reflects their poor relationship with food. I think of food as sustenance only….it’s not an event that I’m concerned with. You talk about gut microbes. I have no issues with digestion. You talked about being satiated on carnivore. Perhaps it could be your getting everything you need in the diet and your body is simply able to digest the bioavailability of meat. I tried your methods…all I did was fart and defecate multiple times a day. I think Peterson probably tried yours as well…it didn’t work apparently. You seem to think weight isn’t an issue. Weight to height ratio is pegged to metabolic disease….I can’t believe you said that. The studies you cited are highly suspect as the participants probably also had carbs and fiber along with the meat they consumed during the study. As far as saturated fat, when also simultaneously mix carbs in the meal you activate the Randle Cycle. You mix energy calories like that in the diet leads to large amount of inflammation. How does meat displace fiber??? Can you digest and properly extract the vitamins and nutrients from the plants you take in???Or do you have to grind them into a fine dust or make smoothies to get the nutrients? You don’t need vitamin C on an all meat diet. But sure better supplement for C on your way of eating because your diet is highly inflammatory. I’ve been carnivore for 5 years now….no scurvy. My diet is about 1 to 1 1/2 pounds of meat per day along with some eggs. With the fat that’s plenty for my 185 pound frame. Jacked and tan at 51. There are a lot of converted vegans who had their moods and mental health greatly improved by ditching the plants. Carnivore is not keto due to the gluconeogenesis with amino acids.

All fresh from the farm or forest. And I have been healthy my whole life, so far. I am never sick, hardly never get a cold or flu. Never bloated, never constipated. Strong teeth. Meat also keeps me from feeling hungry, for many hours, before it's time for another meal. I don't have the need for snacks. Always have lots of energy. And other people in my family, are the same. This is exactly why people find "cleanses" and "detoxing" so beneficial. It's less about what you reduce your diet to than the fact that you reduce it to a few essentials that you aren't sensitive to. They sort of do what they advertize- give your body a rest- for some of the reasons that the people pushing them tend to use- that what you eat regularly is messing with your body somehow- but they tend to add a lot of BS along with those core truths. Still, it's easier to just go back on the detox or cleanse for a while than figure out which specific foods give you problems. As someone who hates getting new glasses and playing the "which is better" game, I'm betting that most people find it nearly impossible to add back foods deliberately and slowly enough to identify all their trigger foods.
