@Marc Doty, I love the demonstration. I'm a BIG fan of dark full sounds, minor chords/scales specially pentatonic. Now I'm curious if anyone has uploaded a polyphonic video using this device.
i would love to hear this through some guitar pedals, it sounds great already but i'd love to hear some wave shaper distortion and bit crush type effects on this beast : )
I think you've got to get out there and here this box through a decent sound-system to truly appreciate the bass frequencies; youtube's compression is surely masking the sheer power of this box? BTW, great to see you doing professional demo's Marc! all the best, Mike
@gramah errr... a closed filter is equivalent to a sine wave, and the oscillators are sub-heavy it is, so I'd doubt you'd need one osc as a sine and one as a square/saw. Just turn the filter all the way to the left and you have your sine.
Hey my speakers...this sounds incredible at that price.. I think with a bit of skill and a dedicated MIDI controller you should be able to link two or more of these badboys together to play polyphonic like you can on the Slim Phatty where the "polyphonic" MIDI feature is built in provided you have more than one Slim Phatty and you chain them together.
I've read some say there's a way to access a sine wav in the minitaur, and that it actually can be used across all octaves, where the saw/square etc only go up to a certain octave. Not sure if true, but some ppl were talking about it on gearslutz
@@idreaminsurfgreen5327 He means if you put a low pass filter on a square wave, it literally shaves the corners off the waveform until it effectively becomes a sine wave. If you have a synth with a wave form display like the korg minilogue you can see this in effect.
Yeah, and it should have Firewire, null modem cable and GPS! Come on, at this price, it's got everything! I wouldn't be surprised if they made a "Maxitaur" as well that has even more spiffy toys.
+Steven McRainbowtits Depending on what you have, you can probably find a way to do so. The easiest way to control it would be via a MIDI cable, though your keyboard may not have one. Another option may be to feed the MIDI data through your computer to a DAW of some kind (like Ableton), and then hook up your MIDI keyboard that way. I don't own a Minitaur, but I believe it has very good support for DAW's in terms of adjusting parameters within the software.
not really, only if it has a proper 5 pin din midi out socket . . . . and the moral is don`t by `so called` midi controller keyboards that have cut corners and don`t even have a mid socket on as well as a usb midi interface for the computer
Cool little synth. I really want to see will this, aruria minibrute or waldorf pulse 2 preform best. Also i really would like to see moog remaking liberation. It really is the only keytar type synt i have never liked.
i asked this question on another page for the minnitaur and no one can seem to answer what im asking...I am a bass player..as in a 4 string bass guitar...I used a e hamonix bass synth and found that the tracking trigger was really off after the 12th fret and it seemed to work on octave effects first and synth bass sounds later..Im using a boss bass synthesizer right now and while a little bit better it also lacks..can this unit be used for a bass as its trigger and is it sensitive that way?
i still think it odd that mood persistently avoids any kind of pwm on its units (modulating the wave parameter for all three oscs on my voyager i find haphazard) . the archetypal moog bass sound is smooth and fat, but surely pwm would not hurt on a unit like this. id love a compact unit like this but lack of pwm slightly turns me off :(. much love though moog!
@sprintbass you need a pitch to midi convertor like the sonuus b2m, but they don't work that well. if you want to get truly accurate tracking and sensitivity with a bass guitar, look into the industrial radio pro-4 midi bass. it's $4,000.
Wow, Dude has cool hair and a ring on his index finger. I'm gonna have to buy one of these stupid things now (oh, wait, nevermind! I'll just build one in my garage for a fraction of the price). I have to admit, though, that the saw and pulse mixed together does sound very fat.
When Marc Doty looked like a member of your average '90s hip British band 😂
I live in an apartment. I can only imagine how much my neighbors would hate me if I bought this.
@Marc Doty, I love the demonstration. I'm a BIG fan of dark full sounds, minor chords/scales specially pentatonic. Now I'm curious if anyone has uploaded a polyphonic video using this device.
If you turn the resonance all the way up to self oscillation, you have a sine wave. :)
instablaster...
Damn, this synth went totally under my radar, so to speak. It's not coming to norway until late may it seems. I need to try it. Now.
My heart is pumping with that Analog Bass Synthesizer!!!! MOOG is in my heart now!!!

Close the filter and you will end up with a sine wave...or you can get the filter self resonating for a technically almost perfect sine
wave.
Which is more versatile, the Minitaur or the Little Phatty Stage?
I want to know this too.. have you formed an opinion yet?
It's the automaticgainsay guy! He does awesome reviews.
There's a demo on some moog soundcloud page which features a kick from this thing, so yes. You can make kicks.

Love those warbles at 7:00. Wish I had the coin for one of these.

How about giving us a demo of the semi modular in the background?
@Spaghettaboutit Aww, thank you! I'm just glad Moog lets me play with the toys. : )
Not quite. You can generate a sine wave if the filter can self oscillate. The filter on the Yamaha CS-15, for instance, cannot do this.
you can make a sine wave from any wave with low pass filter...
not all filters self-oscillate.

Can you plug it into a midi keyboard without the using a computer software or just play it straight out the box?
That's exactly what he's doing in the video.
Woth just a power cable?
I know I'm a year late and you probably already have one but yes you can.
yes.
Great demonstration!
Can this synth just be a stand alone synth not hooked up to a keyboard? I basically just want to use the Minitaur with my Roland sp 404
Yeah, and it should have Firewire, null modem cable and GPS! Come on, at this price, it's got everything! I wouldn't be surprised if they made a "Maxitaur" as well that has even more spiffy toys.
hey, this is probably a stupid question, but can i simply plug an usb midi keyboard straight into the minitaur?

If your keyboard has MIDI-out, you can plug it in directly. If your keyboard only has USB, you'll need to connect both to a computer.
only with midi

Steven McRainbowtits are u watching the video??
The LFOs and envelopes are digital or analog¿
that's right, sometimes we just need a whistle, right? white and pink noise too!
@DeRex9 Thank YOU! :)
I dreamt about this synth last night... I must have it!!
I have a mini taur and it is frozen in the reset position(all lights are on), I have tried holding all 4 buttons down but nothing changes. any advice
is it possible to create kick drums on the minitaur?
@active727 yes, any controller with midi in/out
Hi , very nice video ..
please which stand are you using for minitaur?
thanks
Cool little synth. I really want to see will this, aruria minibrute or waldorf pulse 2 preform best. Also i really would like to see moog remaking liberation. It really is the only keytar type synt i have never liked.
you can use the filter on your bass, but you can't get it to track the pitch of the notes you're playing.

Can I set how it responds to CC2 and play it like a bass clarinet, with a wind controller?
Just got a raise at work...and now I know why...BOOM.
Excellent demo.
can i use this with my bass guitar?
Marc is the man.
Marc Doty is a genious.
what would this be like with a bass guitar running through it?
is the mpk connected to the minitaur via midi?
i thought this was a china shop video.
anyway what's that usb for? sequencer maybe.
will this work with a bass guitar? sounds awesome!
Kello Gonzalez did you ever find out?
You would probably need a MIDI pickup to be able to create notes with it period.
The Minitaur is driven in this demo
i wish there was a sine option in the oscilators :(
Sound good for Goa lol.this can do any base for pretty much any thing lol
Oh man youre so lucky you get to play with this
I had one, sold it and now regret selling it, one of the best synths I have bought for years so I might buy another one . . .
Sold again?
Need some help please...Is the Minitaur the best for the really SUBBY / SMOOTH / DARK basslines u hear in DnB >??? Cheers!
whats the answer??
I wish this whole video wasn't done with the filter closed off. I would have loved to hear more than a few seconds with the thing all the way open.
I am buying this the moment it gets to my local music store. Nice review.

Does it have motorized knobs so that when you send a program change via MIDI it all the knobs would smoothly move towards the correct position?
Andrew Piatek ?????
Chase bliss audio has entered the chat
yes!
3:25 "That is a big low end" lol
strongly considering this as my next toy!
Good to see Marc Doty get some much deserved recognition.
What Keyboard he use?
@dvamateur No. That would probably add like another 500 to the price tag :)
Sounds sweet!
Sold !!!! - Love this baby :-)
Greatness!
THAT'S SICK!!!
automatic gainsay! this looks awesome!
Lotsa cool sounds...But didn't hear anything that came close to those famous Taurus presets...Too bad.
Just add a separate sine subbass. There's no fun in filtering a sine wave anyway.
Sounds interesting, but unlike the Moog Taurus bass pedals.
Agreed...Lotsa cool sound...But didn't hear anything that came close to those famous presets.

awesome. and best of all, you depend on a computer to use it.
O look, a Minitauuuuur!
Anyone know what Trigger/Keyboard he's using?
akai mpk 25
Thanks bro!
np ;)
Akai MPK25 - I have one. They're the business!
ohjames88 hey i'm no expert, but it looks like an Akai mpk25. any midi keyboard will work equally well to drive an outboard module.
i prefer bass guitar with Moog Taurus. This unit lacks definition in the low regions.
nice! YEAH
my next toy... ;)
tis so cute!;-)
or key gate a sine wave...
First video I've seen with someone actually making music from a Moog. Now, how bout some 'Blood Rave' for us?
Looks like an MPK25.
Holy smokes! Look at those sideburns! 😮 Just joking Marc. 😉
Last night... me too
That Taurus sound is Rosie O'Donnell fat
Haha. Go Marc!
Too bad they only give you 3 octaves
5 octaves.
James Reeno well it is for bass...
its 6 octaves. you can play up to midi note 72.
gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah sooooo excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@sentientmachine11 It's not just fat... it's phat.
it's called low pass filtering
holy shit. look at all that moog gear behind him....i just came
så absolutt!
oh that phasing tho
Maximum Swag!
His voice is Minitauric!
It is very legit...
@Jackwell1029384756 I imagine it would sound amazing
Sounds beefy even through the youtube video!
i think it s better for pure subs ...
bloo*y nora
