Finally, an honest "day in the life" video. I always thought those videos were kind of dumb 😁 Planning to move from sw development to cloud engineer. Your videos have been very helpful. Thanks!!
I'm about to start a new position in a tech company doing IT support, this will help ne with my transition into becoming a Cloud Engineer. On the lookout for more of these types of videos. 🙌🏾
Great video Toby! I’ve never come across multi-account architecture used in that way before - it’s always an AWS account per environment where I’ve worked - great to see other perspectives!
Networking is a large aspect or cloud. You’ll break in soon. Take time to master Terraform and Cloud Services. Cloud Network Engineer is an emerging title and it’s something I have a plan to make a video on!
wait, do you do this alone or you work with a team? like getting story points to work with for the day? i'm currently a senior system engineer and trying to breakthrough to cloud, maybe sysops since i have experience with onpremise infra, and someday cloud engineer, i subscribed, nice day in a life! are you perhaps planning to have a community of cloud engineers maybe give some times where did you start.
Omelette 6 out of 10 ( sorry 😂). Brilliant video. I’m starting my computer network Udemy course part time whilst working. I have a Linux, Git, terraform and python course ahead and then hopefully have a bit more time and knowledge to ease into a platform such as aws or azure. Things are going well at my current job so I’m in no rush. Might squeeze in a cyber security course, ansible, database courses if I’m delayed to commit. But time will tell. I’m looking to gain tech knowledge whilst working before doing the full jump. Any pointers? Brilliant video.
😂😂 Make use of a free cloud account to build architecture to make sure you have a good understanding of how it works when you’re doing it yourself instead of watching a course
@@techtoby_ once I’ve gained the basic it skills and of those topics mentioned I think I will be ready for projects. At the moment I’m just limited to Microsoft word and google chrome as my tech experience. All in good time. I have a good roadmap and will probably do a boot camp on aws before applying for jobs, to solidify my knowledge and because I am comfortable to pay for it. Mainly for the guidance, as I have no ties to the tech community.
@@techtoby_ Thank you so much! I will continue to learning Devops and Cloud related technologies. One more question, did you have Data structure and Algo interview for Devops and Cloud role?
No you aren’t typically asked those questions, they’re more for SWE. Most of the questions are based on Terraform, Cloud Services, Security, Pipelines etc.
@@techtoby_ Thank you so much. I have been doing Linux, Networking, Python, Bash and Go but I will learn these stuff you mentioned as well. Thank you so much!
Jo shit the skills gave me imposture syndrome. Sick skills regarding network. Did you really design this in 2 days and then created terraform scripts in another 2 days? lol like what kind of money do you make with those skills.
No, the landing zone takes maybe a couple months to build depending on size and scale, but that’s done when you first adopt cloud. The actual application account, architecture + terraform modules can take some weeks to build as it’s normal for some bits to be tweaked along the way
if you wanna watch someone sit at their desk with a city skyline background not showing you anything of value then yes, i’d agree. But i think most people want to see what actual work we do as engineers. Not just what we eat or sit down with lofi music in the background

Take a look at AWS Landing Zone Accelerator, it’s used a lot for enterprise organisations. I have a video on large scale Cloud Engineer also
Definitely want to be an cloud engineer within a few months ❤
Very insightful. I'm currently learning some new skills and will start applying for jobs.
Glad it was helpful!

I work in IT services desk atm, bought a course on DevOps which am going through at the moment. Great video tho, really inspiring.
Best of luck!
I was wondering why so many IT guys are starting to use Macs as their daily driver
eco system is really handy for content creation
Do you think starting cloud support engineer is a good start for cloud engineer or DevOps?
Yes, of course! I did some Cloud Support work before I was a cloud engineer in a hybrid environment
