In this BBC Radio 4 full-cast drama, Bill Nighy stars as Charles Paris, an actor and amateur sleuth whose life takes an unexpected turn during the filming of a TV detective series, "The Stanislaus Braid Mysteries." Charles, known for his struggles with alcohol and his complicated relationship with his estranged wife Frances, portrayed by Suzanne Burden, is drawn into a real-life mystery when a fellow actress, Lisa Stokes, is found dead on set. Initially believed to be an accident, Charles suspects foul play and begins to investigate the death. Amidst professional setbacks, including dealing with the demanding star Russell Bentley and interruptions by author Winifred Railton, Charles must navigate his personal demons to solve the mystery, while also trying to reconcile with his wife. The plot thickens as Charles dives deeper into the investigation, determined to uncover the truth behind the seemingly accidental death.
