The Fire Engine That Disappeared
by Maj Sjöwall & Per Wahlöö
Translated by Joan Tate
Dramatised by Katie Hims
The apartment of a suspect being staked out by Gunvald Larsson explodes, killing three people. Arson and murder isn't at first suspected - much to Larsson's fury - but when it becomes clear that the fire was started on purpose, the case hinges on the needle-in-a-haystack chance of finding a man who fits an impossibly vague description who was somewhere in the area around the time of the fire.

I love the pace of these and always drift off to sleep about 20 min before the end. Tho usually not when I'm driving.
The Martin Beck plays are excellent.
Thank you so much for sharing!!! 🙏🏻❤️
You are so welcome! Anytime! 😍😘💖💞💕
Larssen has a great voice -- the sort of unfiltered cigarettes chain smoker's voice that will never be again !
the great Ralph Ineson!
His voice sounds like American comedian Brad Garrett
I enjoy every aspect of these adaptions but especially the production standards and sound design. The fact they are set in Sweden in another era is a bonus...
Love Gunvald! Reminds me of Warren Clark, very colorful.
It was great, but I'm totally confused.
I think this audio adaptation leaves out critical information that appears in the written word. I don't want to say more, because I don't want to spoil it for others who have not listened yet. However, I don't want to leave the impression that I did not enjoy the listen. I did, up until the last part. That's all I'll say. On the whole, I do like the Martin Beck Mystery Series. Thank you for this one! 🚒💨
That's interesting to hear, thank you
I am listening to this again, much more carefully than the first time. I am getting to know Martin Beck as a man who doesn't show his true feelings. He seems to be in the same mood all the time. I'm reminded - in a way- of Adrian Monk, the tv detective. Not Monk's OCD or comedy. More like Monk's inner angst.
I think Beck is always hurting inside, even when he is in a good mood, and it's sad.
There's a cool analogy of two completely unrelated fire engines in the story.
I was on edge most of the rdra MN atizatiin, but during the "encounter", my heart was beating very fast.
This time around, I was definitely more drawn into the story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
OmyGod police with no gun….Insane!!!!!
