I crewed on Werner Erhard’s Swan 48 “Sirona” out of Sausalito in the late 70s .., Amazingly appointed and super fast… Thank you for the tour of a great boat.
Yep, as everyone else has said, good vid as normal.. looking forward to seeing you guys sailing offshore... keep them coming.. One thing though the Swan is a Finish boat and not Swedish..... just so as you know Drake:)
Hi thatsmethistime, more expensive to buy and also to maintain, and certainly way out of my budget, but yes, it was a real delight to sail! I hope to show a lot of that in the upcoming episodes. :) Thanks, Drake
Love it. I am not sure I like needing a special tool for engine access. I could see that getting lost in an emergency lol & with me being me I would lose it without the help of an urgent situation. Beautiful boat. I love Swan and trust me,it's not the tool needed for engine access that's preventing me from owning one. :)
No problems Drake, I love all your vids and eagerly wait for the next:) I didn't want to come across as a 'know it all' ... Sweden do have some fantastic boat builders Najad(I own a N343) Hallberg Rassy, Malö to name a few... Fair winds Warren
Nice looking cabin. Think im loving the 70s and 80s sailing boats ive been looking at on youtube. Maybe i'll learn the major things to look for in a sailing boat and not only the redone pretty interiors in the future. Think im loving this so far.
Drake: very nice boat. Did like it all except the fatal mirror (2:25) on the aft cabin that is half way to invite seasickness even for those that are not vulnerable. Keep posting.
Hi LGrumors, thank you! I've spent the past 2 years repairing and refitting my boat Paragon in North Carolina. Soon we'll set sail for Boston! I'm really looking forward to making that tour! Happy sailing, Drake
Hi Mark, Thanks, yes, TH-cam user legend343 also mentioned this in the comments below and I added a text annotation over that part of the video that reads: "correction: Swan sailboats are produced by a Nautor AB. They are a Finnish company, not Swedish, and are based in Jakobstad. Thank you to user legend343 for the correction! :)" We really appreciate it! Happy sailing, DrakeParagon
Thanks Anubous, me too and will do. I'm looking forward to making videos aboard all kinds of sailboats. Some of the most beautiful boats in the world to me were not excessively large, elaborate, or expensive... just really seaworthy. Happy sailing, Drake
Hello Drake. Towards the end of the video you guys say you don't think this boat is a live-aboard, something about it lacking... I would dream of living on a boat like this .. Just curious, in your opinion, what other boat would be better to live in?
MaoNoUse Everyone has their own personal preferences. It seemed to me that the focus of design of the Swan 48 was more on racing than for living aboard, but it's all personal preference. Bella Luna was a really beautiful and fast sailboat.
You need to do some boats with some AWESOME showers. Even nice long boats like this just give a eh, shower experience. I have even noticed when you are coming to a marina the first thing on the list is a shower! I'm going to invent the ultimate shower even for the smaller 30+ boats. starting with mine. Lol
+Urban Deployment Were you ever able to design the perfect shower for your boat? It's certainly near the top of my list for a cruising boat...showering with a spray bottle or an inadequate set up loses its charm quickly! ⚓-Mo
sailorman I cruised aboard a Westsail 32 named Valiant for 6 years and over 10,000 offshore nautical miles and sometimes I really really miss that smaller boat!
benjitayahoo for starters just off the top of my head, tools I frequently seem to be using.... screwdrivers, wrenches, socket wrenches, vice grips, an assortment of pliers, hack saw, hammer, rasp, dewalt 18v drill with a variety of drill bits and buffing wheels, jig saw, hand saw, multimeter, wire cutter, butt connector crimper, soldering iron, oil filter wrench, stuffing box wrenches, allen key wrenches...
I don't appreciate videos like this. Here I was, absolutely smitten by stout trawlers and completely sold on them. I watch a few sailboat tours and now all I see inside of trawlers is inefficiency. I just think of the things id do differently, and find things I dislike but couldn't change. looks like I'm changing teams haha. I really like the idea of taking something a bit racy like this and making a liveaboard out of it. I read up on a few old Farrs and would like to see a j35c in person too. It's a bit tough thinking of candidates.
mcgoo721 Well, you are definitely..... 'Not Alone'. I was on the water in my power vessel all the time. Loved living on the coastal areas. Then was invited to work for a sailboat dealership. Went on a race and the rest is history. Power boats give you access to an art. Sailing is an art by itself. I was hooked. There are so many advantages to sail. AND the pretty girls always prefer the sailboats. Like they are drawn to them unknowingly. All the better... they make great deck crew too.

+Thomas Lange I'm trying to think how tall Captain A.J. was...I think at least 6'1 (ish) and he was able to move around just fine. It was a comfortable boat height-wise. ⚓-Mo
At minute 07:32 where I mistakenly mention that the boat is made in Sweden, there is an annotation that appears at the bottom of the video which reads: "correction: Swan sailboats are produced by a Nautor AB. They are a Finnish company, not Swedish, and are based in Jakobstad. Thank you to user legend343 for the correction! :)"
+TeeFunkable Interesting! It's a feature I've never seen on other boats and I think is a really great idea. We look forward to sailing to Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark someday...
This boat was abandoned during a storm about 70 nautical miles north of Bermuda. She was sighted by ships a couple of times shortly afterward, and was even boarded once by Matt Rutherford. But the boat was never recovered. I assume she's sunk by now.
Thank you legend343! I have added a text annotation over that part of the video that reads: "correction: Swan sailboats are produced by a Nautor AB. +Willy Wonka I counted 7 plates + 7 bowls, but the boat has 6 single sleeping berths, 8 if you count the settee cushions in the salon. I imagine that in a grueling long distance offshore race they could use that many crew to be competitive.
Well. Then I feel I know this boat from inside out, and it is all, uh, "very nice" og just "nice", heh heh. Nothing for me - I put comfort first and speedy abilities next. Anyway ...;-)
I don't sail, I'm a big chicken, but I'm obsessed with learning about it. I can't help but wonder where you put all your garbage if you're sailing in the middle of the ocean. PLEASE don't tell me you just dump it in the sea.
The best thing you can do is take it out of the packaging and put it in plastic containers. However when you are out to sea it is legal to dump paper, cardboard and tin cans over

Another great, detailed video. Nice work !
OMG how could anyone possibly think Swans are made in SWEDEN of all the places??
The BEST sail yachts in the world proudly handmade in FINLAND. :)

Looking forward for part 3 :)
You can quite comfortably live on this lovely boat....i for 1 love it 😉👌
Cheers mate :) Looking forward for part 2. thanks a lot.
Nice boat. Thanks for sharing.
+Dennis S/V Mana Iti Glad you enjoyed it Dennis! ⚓-Mo
Such a nice boat!
You should make a video tour of the Paragon.
Hi LGrumors, thank you! I've spent the past 2 years repairing and refitting my boat Paragon in North Carolina. Soon we'll set sail for Boston! I'm really looking forward to making that tour! Happy sailing, Drake
The only swan sailboats I know of are made by a Finnish company named Nautor. Are you sure you're not thinking of that company?
Hi Mark, Thanks, yes, TH-cam user legend343 also mentioned this in the comments below and I added a text annotation over that part of the video that reads: "correction: Swan sailboats are produced by a Nautor AB. Indeed, as i expected, this is a very nice equiped vessel. But such vessels costs a lot :-) It must be a delight to sail with this one.
What's the A/C situation on the Swan 48? I can't imagine the isn't any sailing in the Caribbean and all. You'll cook!
Its really nice, I've got inspiration, thanks :-)
I love this boat. I Wish I could find myself one oneday
I'm very curious why you said this boat is not a live aboard. It seemed amazing! What are you missing on it for it to be a live aboard?
Thanks Anubous, me too and will do. I'm looking forward to making videos aboard all kinds of sailboats. Some of the most beautiful boats in the world to me were not excessively large, elaborate, or expensive... just really seaworthy. Happy sailing, Drake
which boat did you prefer being on, the fellowship or bella luna
13:31 i think thats a mosquito/fly wire-netting

Nice name for a ship!
+JorgeL721 I thought so as well. Simple and elegant, yet easy to understand. Perfect! (✿◠‿◠) ⚓-Monique
One thing about the built-in microwave: if you need a new one, you'll have to pull the old one out. Still and all, its a nice boat.

+DrakeParagon In design and theory? Yes, In cost effectiveness. I will be seeking donations. Lol
Wonderful boat!,its a little cluttered in it though
Swan is a boat made in Finland, not Sweden.
Holy shit thats a nice boat.
I have always wanted to live in a tiny boat
You need a wider angle lens.
Wished I hadn't watched this video, now I need a boat bigger than 33 feet.
sailorman I cruised aboard a Westsail 32 named Valiant for 6 years and over 10,000 offshore nautical miles and sometimes I really really miss that smaller boat!
DrakeParagon's Real Cruising Life I do like my 1978 Hunter 33 Cherubini.
She sails well.
It is nice to have a boat I can single hand.
Happy sailing..
@@drakeParagon what a good guy , you actually respond to folks , and , I've always admired the ship that launched a million dreams.
thanks lutacrew, happy sailing!

Would love to hear about the tools you carry
benjitayahoo for starters just off the top of my head, tools I frequently seem to be using.... screwdrivers, wrenches, socket wrenches, vice grips, an assortment of pliers, hack saw, hammer, rasp, dewalt 18v drill with a variety of drill bits and buffing wheels, jig saw, hand saw, multimeter, wire cutter, butt connector crimper, soldering iron, oil filter wrench, stuffing box wrenches, allen key wrenches...
Thanks for taking the time to reply! What range of socket sizes do you recommend, SAE or Metric, and 3/4, 1/2, or 1/4?

they figured that out a year ago. sometimes its best to read the comments first.
How tall are you man? curious how a 6'3" person wound fit
+Thomas Lange I'm trying to think how tall Captain A.J. was...I think at least 6'1 (ish) and he was able to move around just fine. It was a comfortable boat height-wise. ⚓-Mo
Would have been n ice to see a panoramic of the entire cabin...seriously - how many interiors of storage lockers is that interesting?
Built in Sweden? I think Finland.
At minute 07:32 where I mistakenly mention that the boat is made in Sweden, there is an annotation that appears at the bottom of the video which reads: "correction: Swan sailboats are produced by a Nautor AB. I've added that note to the video's description as well.
That dish cabinet being a feature made me laugh as it's a standard no kitchen would go without even on land where these boats are built.
+TeeFunkable Interesting! It's a feature I've never seen on other boats and I think is a really great idea. We look forward to sailing to Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark someday...
great video. I love the idea of liveaboard but this is a little too rich for my blood. Keep the videos coming and be safe
I think this is Garry and Terry's boat

DrakeParagon Ok then.
anyone who doesn't believe in curses should look up the history of this boat.
Well. Then I feel I know this boat from inside out, and it is all, uh, "very nice" og just "nice", heh heh. Nothing for me - I put comfort first and speedy abilities next. Anyway ...;-)
very nice boat and sad fate :0(
+design of modern life Indeed... ⚓-Mo

You can dump anything as long as it's not plastic.
Not a clear explanation of the layout. Very disorientating.
I love talking about dodger colours
+Thomas Elliott Ha! Of course, who doesn't? *grin* ⚓-Mo
Sweden? Perkele!!!
At 10:12 you see rum, 10:15 rum gone.... Why rum gone..
