    My Jackery 1000 generator and two smaller units are for emergency home use only. I have the Bestek inverter with the cigarette lighter plug as well as the alligator clips to charge directly off my alternator with my little Scion at idle. It's an extra precaution to bypass the cigarette lighter and thus avoid the potential of damaging my vehicles electronics. I have to smile when I remember the old days of having to pump up the old white gas Coleman lantern and stove to make them work on our camping trips. Those were fun days.

    A big "Thank You" for this video! I have a Honda CRV and a Jackery 1000. When charging the Jackery 1000 from my vehicles 12 volt outlet I was averaging at around 70 watts or so, which is OK, but I was looking for a way to improve on the charging rate. My 12 v outlets are only rated at 10 amps, so they aren't up to the task of charging at a higher rate. I just bought the exact same Bestek 300 watt inverter that you are using and I connected it directly to my vehicles battery for testing purposes. I plugged my Jackery wall charger into the inverter and my Jackery started charging at around 145 watts. This is exactly the same as if I was charging it from a wall outlet at home. I'm really happy to see such an improvement and I will now install a separate battery connected 12 volt outlet to be used by the inverter. I'll make sure that it is properly fused and I will use a battery isolator so that I don't accidently discharge my car battery. I really appreciate all of your time and effort in creating this video.

    Bought it 2 years ago when Javier Camacho from Puerto Rico was asking for donations making power banks for victims of Hurricane Maria. He would build 500W Lithium Ion battery banks using 100W solar and this Pure Sine wave inverter.
    People cried getting this item in their homes!

    This is a good piece of kit for ANYONE who owns a vehicle....Whether you do solar or not, whether you live in a van, RV, etc or not.....Go on a road trip with the Family and this will keep their devices charged and running LONGER. It is pretty good if you also forget to charge a device before leaving on a trip.
    Thank You HOBOTECH!

      I run a twin USB fan on a low setting (out of 3) that draws about 1 amp (fan blades about 4" in diameter). When I go to bed my Jackory 300 is at 100%, in the morning maybe 99%. It throws out enough air for the inside of van, for me anyways. No worries about draining the battery with these little fans.

    Thank you for reviewing the BESTEK 300w Inverter. I had been considering getting a small inverter for the car and also for charging some small devices off of my very small scale solar setup. It is just the ticket for charging the small devices, phone, tablet and laptop. It also opens the door to having another way of charging a future solar generator, to be purchased later on. Have a great day!

    I have been charging like this for a while. I think you touched on this in the video, but it's important to remember that a lot of vehicle cig lighter circuits are fused at only 10 amps. A higher wattage charger will blow them. I do not recommend a larger fuse because some of the wiring is only 14-16 gauge. I ran a fused, 8 gauge circuit directly from my battery (not the alternator) through the firewall to the rear seats. Works great and no fire danger. I also use the circuit for a DC to DC converter that charges my 12v Battle Born at 20 amps while I drive.

      I’ve done the same with a 400 watt inverter direct and fused to the battery for a Bluetti E150 (1500wh) and get 200 watts. 10 ga wire. 20 amp fuse.

    • @robjoyce-lifestyle6464
      @robjoyce-lifestyle6464 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Is a 10 gauge wire okay with this for charging a bluetti eb150 the white and blue power generator hobo has on the video? Or does it have to be 8 gauge when running straight to battery?

      If your unit supports multiple charge methods ie 12 volts and 110 why not charge from both in the auto so you can charge at 120 watts

    I have a everstart 120w inverter and I've been using for sort of the same hack with my 200w MaxOak power station. It charges faster off the inverter while driving then the 12v plug. I also use it to top of my house batteries by combining it with a battery charger/maintainer when the sun is weak/sky cloudy. I might grab one of these at this price as I've been looking for a larger, but not too large cig plug inverter between 300w-500w.

    See now I was just saying in another video that I'm not so into the portable battery units but like knowing whats out there and you have something I can use.. We have a 2001 Winnebago Class A. we have solar and an inverter but most of our RV is running on 12 volts so we only use the inverter then we can to power laptops, TV's Microwave and so on. The coach came with a 300w inverter from the factory that powers both the TV's but problem is the inverter is 20 years old and not a pure sign wave so we getting little buzzing out of the speakers that drives me nuts.. This unit is a perfect replacement AND the best part is I went to your amazon site to buy and and got 20% off. Amazon is offering a 10% discount AND your 10% is cost me $37.99 with tax and free prime shipping.. Thanks Tom.. you rock!!

    You should address using cigarette type 12v port. This test connects directly to your battery which isn't the same thing. My 2003 Toyota 4Runner will only supply 120W through the DC ports in the car and a bluetti EB150 won't charge as it pulls 220W. It seems completely dependent on your cars wiring and fuses.

    Well you are quite the salesman, I did order this morning one of the inverters from your site and promo code. I really want to get a 240 w. Jackery solar charger but I believe they will be coming out with a newer one that will charge faster and all I am looking for is the regulated 12v feature on the device. Everything in my van runs off 12V. But I did get the 300w inverter to charge the Jackery just in case I cannot wait for the new model if there is going to be a newer model. As always I enjoy your reviews.

    I bought this for my Bluetti EB150 to charge in my 4Runner while driving but no luck. The AC wall charger kept toggling on and off. Eventually the 15 amp fuse popped. I can charge in the 4Runner with engine running using the onboard 110 but that turns off once the transmission is in drive. I can't believe the Bluetti cannot be charged in the car while driving. This is a major con and I now regret buying one. I love this channel though!

    Thanks for answering my question. I thought it would work but did not know which inverter to purchase. It's too smoky to get decent solar here in California now, so AC from home power plug in wall and DC from my car are my only options for now. I just ordered my BESTEK 300. It will get here at approx. the same time my BLUETTI arrives. I want to be prepared in the event we loose AC.

    Love your passion! I asked Amazon this question about the Bluetti...still have not got an answer. Yes you covered this intelligent yet inexperienced beOtch's fear of sucking the life from my Grand Caravan battery and popping fuses and frying wires! I even wanted to know if I could just dual-ize my battery...personally it is too much bother.. My van is pretty generic and does not have that inverter option. What I have is 160
    W 13amp...with two options direct or while running. I am looking into a guaranteed tweek to fuse up...Yes! You have satisfied my needs Professor Hobo! Thank you! (and I am an 80's blow dryer addict. If I can't use my 1500W hair dryer...even when camping...it is a bad hair day. So serious about that!) I imagine grooming that wonderful Professor Goatee requires some hot air and shaping to get it just right?

    Thx so much for this video! Been trying to figure out why my '17 4Runner DC port connected to a Marxon G1500 solar generator kept cutting out. I suspected voltage drop below 11v from the car battery tripped the battery management on the G1500, but wasn't sure of a good way around this except for putting a 2nd battery in the Runner. Looks like this inverter will be just what I need to keep the battery charged and keeping my fridge running for days. Very helpful info!

    great test. just curious if I am using a cargo van or an SUV would doing this put extra wear and tear on my battery/alternator? someone was telling me recently that if you have a battery bank built into your vehicle it is bad to try and charge off the alternator without getting a new alternator that is designed to handle the extra load.

      Are you running it through your van cigarette lighter? If so, do you know what kind of efficiency loss there is or what size fuse you have in it? I want to draw 144 watts to charge my ebike battery from a trailer house battery. But it is fused at 15 amps which means I can only draw about 180 watts from the house battery. If the inverter needs more than 180 to get me my 144 it obviously will blow the fuse. Thanks.

    • @jingeman
      @jingeman 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@JohnC88lvb I haven’t actually measured the draw but I know my ebike charger starts drawing about 140 watts but within 15 minutes or so it is down under 100 watts and that inverter ran the charger just fine and I think my cigarette socket is also fused at 15 amps

    Unfortunately as others have mentioned with the newer EB150/240 wall chargers from Bluetti this won't work through the cigarette lighter because they are around 250Watt (older chargers were ~180 Watt). Bluetti has come out with the DC Charging Enhancer D050S which allows you to charge from the cigarette lighter. I bought one and it charges at about 100Watts.

    The wattage a 12VDC output will charge the power station at depends almost entirely on the actual output voltage of that 12VDC output. If it's something reasonable, like 13.6V, then you'll get about 100W. A lot of "12V" outputs (from vehicles and varying brands of power stations), however, are sub-standard and only output e.g. 12.8V or even lower. The voltage drop prevents power stations from charging at 100W from such outputs.
    Unfortunately, there are a lot of problems trying to charge a power stations or anything else from a vehicle's 12V battery or 12V system at more than around 100W. Not just fusing on the 12V "power socket", but even if you tap off the battery directly the alternator might get unhappy. IMHO It just isn't worth potentially breaking your vehicle.
    And when charging from an AC source, the power station might try to pull more than you can reasonably supply. If you are trying to charge an Oukitel P2001 for example, its AC input runs 1100W and there is no way to lower it. At least with the DC/solar input, you can control the current a bit better.
    And the way to do that is with a DC-to-DC converter. So if you want to charge at 100W or so, use the 12V output directly. If you want to charge at 200W (assuming the vehicle can handle it), use a 12V-to-24V DC-to-DC converter. To be completely honest, I find using a 12V-to-24V converter to be the best all-around solution.... nearly all power stations will charge at roughly 200W - 250W which is still low enough not to melt the vehicle's alternator.
    -Matt

    The Bestek does recommend that you only use 150W or less through cigarette lighter. Just wanted to make sure people were clear about that! But I bought the Bestek due to this review (just the one that is aluminum, so I could screw it down)

  • @skyleryeatman
    @skyleryeatman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This is actually my current method of charging. I'm using an EverStart 400W and a DBPower 505wh solar generator. Using the charger that came with it lets me charge at 120 watts. No PD charging and a maximum charging rate of 150watts according to the manufacturer means I'm pretty close to maximum!
    A word of warning don't use the cigarette lighter if you can help it and wire this straight to your battery. Not only does this avoid blowing a tiny fuse but I actually had my cig lighter plug itself burn out.. still need to fix that.
    Either way great video, also curious it looks like just a DC-DC buck/boost converter might do the trick? My solar generator's charger charges it at 24v so matching that with 140watt output from the DC source directly seems like it would also be more efficient on my poor 80A alternator hah.

    This is good to know. I tried plugging a 12v car battery into my Pecron e3000, and it was weak sauce... only charged at 85-90W. My supplied charger is 600w, so I will have to find a 24v 300W charger to pair with the little Bestek.
