I forgot who but I remember watching an NBA legend say he had a George Gervin Iceman poster in his room growing up. That poster of him sitting on a frozen throne (intentional warcraft 3 reference lol) while holding two ice basketballs was legendary
The finger roll at 1:37 is the coldest move i seen in my ENTIRE LIFE. To this DAY. And im 43 years old smh..💯 straight 🔥. I can't find that roll anywhere at regular speed tho smh...
I've seen it a regular speed, with audio. Quite chilling. Total silence, except for the uooooos and awwwwwwws. LA crowd totally appreciated what they were seeing in the moment. As a Spurs fan dating back to 1973, I was there in 1974 when Gervin arrived. As such, it was not the first time to witness that particular shot. Gervin usually execute 3 or 4 such shots per game. He really made it look routine from night to night. 52% career fg percentage. This means that for every 2 shots taken over a 12 year career, Gervin got 1 bucket.......think about that!!!! So he was not just taking shots, he was a shot maker who played with finesse but played physically @ 6'8" 180 lbs while playing in the hand check era. Gervin punished his opponents.
As a Center in HS I obviously looked up to the big guys out there and practiced Kareem's sky hook to that level that it became automatic. The second move I've practiced for years was the Iceman's finger roll. To this day I still can't do it. The finger roll is the smoothest, most elegant yet toughest move to learn. I clearly failed but it looks amazing when Gervin did it.
Gervin was definitely the master of the finger roll. Clyde Drexler had one of the best finger rolls as well. James Worthy was pretty good too, but didn’t have that extra flip of the wrist.
The fact that wilt as admitted by the kind of the finger roll and all time one on one player iceman was the first to put the finger roll on the map is insane given all the other things he’s the goat at and dominated with and introduced to the game and doing that at a center position influencing forwards and guards Goat by far
It's called a FINGER ROLL. Get it??? People on here talking this Jelly S*** kill me... That's like someone re-naming the hook shot calling it the Arch or something. These young Uncle travelling Matt & carrying basketball fools of today, don't know the true history and meaning of the slightest basketball terms.
The smoothest, quietest superstar I ever had the pleasure to watch operate
Thank you George ❤️
Doing reverse finger roll floaters while jumping that high in the air insane.
This lay is so smooth. The best finger roll in nba history.
A shame there was so little highlights of his games back then as very few were even broadcast back then.
The Nasty LA Finger Roll Baby At 1:37
People don't realize how hard of a shot the jelly is. It's only for the advanced ballers
Baller
Ain't nobody shoot the jelly super-well or consistently in the nba today. It's that hard.
@@whatubeaccount1kyrie the only person I can think of today that even has it in his bag
I do lol. Played D1
Thank you for posting he was one of my favorite players as a kid. I had an Iceman Poster in my room growing up. Everyone wanted to be the Iceman #44.
So did i

Let's not forget his deadly one handed jump shot
When you talk about pure perimeter/paint scorers I think it’s Jordan, Tmac, Kobe, Gervin just ability to scorer anywhere within the 3pt line.
Shout out to Mr Gervin im from Detroit my dad put me up on him win i was a kid and i watch him alot Hall of Famer 💯💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Not only the finger roll, but so smooth, so graceful. Really fun to watch play.

I used to have that move in my repertoire driving baseline and then reversing the ball like that.

My all time favorite player. The Ice Man 👍🏾
#1 and he is from my home town city, Detroit, Michigan. The home of all the best "ballers"! Only in the D baby!
I might have to agree and I’m from East Saint Louis . Everyone from Detroit seemed to be 6’7 and cold
I like how the ice man credits the OGs before him. Miss this kind of stuff.
I literally had this guys layup package in 2k , it felt so underrated I didn’t know he was an older player like that
Ice, Hawk, Pearl, DT and Doc...folks, this is when basketball was being played.
Cool mix. Good music choice and nice editing. Keep up the good work. Fun to watch.
One of the coldest nick names of all time no pun intended. The Ice Man !
Doing high loopers, way ahead of his time
"They call him The Iceman Mr Cool!"
Amazing!!!!
So so good mate, thanks for cutting this up. Loved Ice Man
as a kid.
The smoothest shot in basketball He knows how to FINGER -ROLL 🏀
King of finger roll iceman
Fanga Roll!😂😂😂
Finger roll is very hard
Smooth
Looking at highlights of the players of the late 60s n 70s makes it Very Hard to watch the players of today!!!
Gervin was 70s, 80s
I know that but I'm 60yld I remember the players of the late 60's
When I used to play we called the finger roll “ the Gerv”
I see where Jordan got some of his moves.. ppl need to see the GOATs b4 Jordan!
watched a clip where he finger rolled the ball off the upper left corner area of the glass and in. this was in a game.
Who even still has a finger roll in 2024? Kyrie? Seen Wemby bust it out once or twice. This is a shot that needs to make a comeback.
Hes like "nuh uh, i dont need to dunk! Check out this smooth move instead!"
Makes it look way too easy to slip that past defenders

No announcement could declare the media among the beginning.4 hours .today.. well flip the net.

One thing I could do…was finger ro’
Fayngahrole!
Ice Man!
Just learn,padawans 😉
Fanga role...
Wilt had the ugly big fingerroll. But Ice could make a fine shot from 3 point range and soft off the glass. Ice was a class act.
He'd average 40ppg off finger rolls alone today.
It's called a FINGER ROLL. Get it???

This kind of like the jelly before the jelly
Naw the Jelly is kinda like the finger roll, since the finger roll came first.
Old dude tryna act like a young cat doing them jelly
