The Japan-Philippines "special relationship" is seen as a economic partnership that has seen tremendous benefits. Do you think that Japan is investing in the Philippines because of their history? Let us know down below!

If we look how SouthKorea and Japan's relationship is..
I will say Philippines and Japans relationships get's alot of benefits.
      While Filipinos are forgiving person's
SouthKoreans are known for holding hatred against Japan due to there history and it led Japan and SK bussines relationships getting complicated in due process.

I think one of the reasons why the majority of the Filipinos don't hold grudge against the Japanese is because it's already in the past, most of those Japanese who occupied the Philippines is already dead. The Japanese that we know on this generation is not the one who destroyed the country, it's their ancestors. They might be connected, but we shall never blame someone who never did us wrong. Yeah, i get it that they belong to the same nationality/country, but if we're going to be mad at them, What's the gain? Afterall Filipinos are known as one of the kindest people in the world. But don't get me wrong, Filipinos could easily forgive someone, but we'll never forget.
I'm hoping for the come back of the forgotten tiger of Asia, The Philippines.

Japanese had to do what it had to do to kicked the Western countries control out of Asia. The west controlled 80 percent of Asia before ww2. Meaning we cannot trade with our neighboring countries without thier permission. It had to be done. Now I think 95 percent of Asia is controlled by Asians. Isn't that beautiful. Asians controlling thier countries at last.

Its happening, in many observable ways. Not only in manila but countrywide, improvements and building infrastructure everywhere, every city and just about every province. Between all the other developing asean conference nations, were one of the hottest emerging economies in asia besides China, if not the world. Phillipines gdp is on track to increase by another steady 6-7 % per year, total output nearing 500 billion and increasing. Along with china, phillipines is leading the world in green technology and initiatives. But warning to china: do not overstep our claim to our islands to the west of us, we have native tribal filipinos who live and fish in the floating villages at sea by those islands that's their home. Anyone whos ever done so we kicked them out. And even though the us would not credit the phillipines for fighting against the spaniards in front of the world, let it be known we had won against the colonizers. Let it be known northern luzon phillipines guerrillas like my lolo are who drove out the Japanese from our islands, not MacArthur who had to retreat to Australia. Anyways back to what im saying, as of summer 2022 i can report tourism is increasing and the building has no stop no end in sight. Manila Ncr is getting a new subway put in. Bulacan in the northand cavite to the south are both getting international airports, the one in cavite being built on reclaimed land, just as okada manila has, along with the entire new gaming area. many kababayas have not forgotten what theyve done to us, but now they're engineering all our infrastructure so its earthquake proof, and having cheap chinese labor do the building to stay within cost and meet our goals on track on time unlike America. Which is always built shoddy by the lowest contractor with European illegals using short cut methods jeopardizing the whole project, always finishing late overbudget. No our work ethic is better and were learning from the best at staying on time and hustling to meet those deadlines...
A word about that other 12% that do not approve of the Japanese or foreigners, I saw first hand in the province, like a reverse racism, a sign stating Japanese and white foreigners sit here and filipinos and other asians or customers sit inside. I guess that small restaurant made it a point to serve the filipino locals and families first in the ac, then attend to foreigners and Japanese outside. Coming from the usa this was a surprise to see, but I remained respectful and did not question it and ate inside quickly and moved on.... although most are not like this, theres still some places that do... so watch yourselves and your conduct, its your meal ticket in general in the phillipines. Nutrition is improving too, traveling back in my teens or 20s, i was taller than most people there by a large margin, im 5'9 which is tall for se asia. But when i visited this year, i was just avg. Many young guys even some girls now are very tall, even younger cousins in my family there, my lil cuz shes just as tall as me. And her mom had gotten taller too, im no longer tallest in the family...

Japan funded the revolution of the Filipinos against Spain and even supplied the weaponries but soon later found out by the Spaniards. Japan didn't pursue taking Philippines from Spain in the late 1800's to early 1900's as it's busy annexing Korea and Manchuria, China as its territories following their win with the Russia-Japan war in the early 1900's and because Japan knew another superpower- U.S.A. eyed the Philippines in taking over as its new colonial master.

The irony is that some Filipinos condemn Japan for its past atrocities in the Philippines while praising the United States. It's interesting to note that were it not for the presence of Americans, the Japanese would have not invaded the Philippines, at least in the point of view of president Duterte. Japan along with China, South Korea and Israel have contributed a lot to the nation building of the Philippines. They deserve the gratitude of the Filipino people. On the other hand, our very own treaty ally treats us like a lapdog as if we're still their colony. They want us to be their pawn and military outpost for their future (proxy) war against China. Where's the rationality there? Wake up Filipinos!

For a commoner like me... It's always been about soft power. Ask Filipinos what they think of Japan, most probably would say the highest quality appliances. South Korea and US have that soft power too. Probably because of KPop and US pop culture. This explains why most pro-China Filipinos are mostly based their perception of China from Chinese propaganda. China is just building soft power however what pop culture are they going to present us? China's soft power is currently based on the promotion of authoritarianism that democracy doesn't lift people from poverty and China has lifted their people from poverty which is not at all true btw.

South Korea: We suffered a lot under Japanese invasion. >:(
Philippines: We also experienced that but we are still promoting Japanese culture as a sign of friendship. :)
    Philippines was colonized by:
    Spanish - 300+ years
    America - 48 years
    Japan - 3 years
And Philippine people still gives a fair treatment for everyone, they continue being hospitable, and nice to Foreigners. We should be matured, spreading peace is more better than spreading hate and racism.
    FACT no1:
The former president of south Korea, Park Chung-Hee. He was high rank military officer of imperial Japanese army.
    FACT no2:
Hong Sa-ik (Korean) was class A war criminal and one of highest ranking general in the imperial Japanese army stationed in Philippines. He was the one causing massive suffering for Filipinos during WW2.
    FACT no3:
There were 240,000 Korean soldiers (including 9 Korean generals. Yes NINE, 9 Korean generals) in the imperial Japanese army.
    FACT no4:
The only Korean who actually fought for Korean independence was Kim il sung. Yes the founding father of North Korea. Yeah! That North Korea.
    FACT no5:
A lot of the Imperial Japanese soldiers during the occupation of the Philippines were actually kind and friendly with the local civilians and even mingled and socialized with the Filipinos and even protected them from collateral damage when fighting the guerillas. Many Filipinos often stated it was mostly the Korean Conscripts who were often sadistic and cruel bayoneting Filipino babies, raping women and little girls, and engaging in massacres of civilians in the Philippines and burning Filipinos in buildings.
History is funny like that. Things aren't black and white. History is full of ugly shades of grey! Most Japanese soldiers were good and decent men who were inhumanely brainwashed and forced to fight for an evil regime and just followed orders! A lot of Korean conscripts in the Imperial Army during the Second Sino Japanese War and World War 2 were sadistic and brutal murderers yet they don't represent most Korean conscripts in World War 2! Not every Japanese soldier was bad and not every American soldier was good. Good and evil fights on both sides. As a Korean myself I want to tell my fellow Asians in the Philippines that I love you all just as I love my fellow Asians in China, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, and even North Korea. I hope we can all stop with this divide between out people's and that Korea can one day be reunited.

  • @baconkulit1513
    @baconkulit1513 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

Main reason Japan Attack Philippines was due to 48 years of America's Military expansionism and occupation of the island. The US have placed so bases all over the Island and tried to integrate the local population to bolster their ground forces in Asia. Philippines became collateral damage and natural casualty of this war between this 2 super powers during that time. Without outside forces interference and militarization, Japan and Philippines have very similar family oriented culture. Easy to integrate back together in peace time and well suited to be natural friends and ally as they have been for centuries. Now a fair warning, It has the similarities in the current situation, with the tension between China and the US. China does not hate the Philippines or have any compunction of invading it, but the US military bases there can trigger a military strike if they do go to war. Get those American bases out and tell them to go home or go somewhere else far away from the Philippines.

    • @kornkernel2232
      @kornkernel2232 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

But US military bases are long gone from the Philippines, the reason US is in the Philippines is only due to visitation agreement. But US doesn't have permanent bases in the country anymore, areas like Clark for example has become a city and the airport used for military is now used for international airport for passengers and commercial. Then PAF is also borrowing it for their own use as well.
The relationship between Philippine and China is complicated. Though China doesn't really think Philippines is their enemy or their competitor, but the issue is their action in the territories makes the Philippines really cautions from them, which will just push them to US for alliance. Not to mention that Philippines still have defence pact with the US, so it is their natural ally. The situation is really complicated, and this is why geopolitics is a sensitive issue that administration has to really calculate the best action it can take for whatever is available.

Filipinos in general aren't known to hold grudges when it comes to historical events, and despite the twisted concept behind Japan's invasion, and while it's clear that they did so because of American occupation of the country as their bigger target at that specific time, they apparently did it to free Filipinos from western influence. They knew that Philippines was colonized for more than three hundred years, and so they justified their actions that Asia is better governed by their country, instead of western nations. It's like a two-sided coin, where on one side, it was first and foremost a war and therefore, with wreckage and casualties, but on the other, there was concern, or sympathy towards Filipinos.

one of the reason I guess why the Philippine and Japan relation become like this was because of the late Philippine President Elpidio Quirino decision in 1953 when he pardon 103 Japanese war criminals.
"The Presidential clemency defied expectations and the prevailing anti-Japanese sentiment at that time. President Quirino suffered devastating personal loss during the war, with his wife and three children being felled by Japanese bullets as they fled their home during the 1945 Battle of Manila. President Quirino’s grant of executive clemency was also seen as an act of conviction and courage, coming a mere eight years after the war’s end, with Filipino resentment and anger against the Japanese remaining deep-seated."
“I have extended executive clemency to Japanese war prisoners serving terms in the Philippines not as an amnesty which requires concurrence of the Philippine Congress.
“I should be the last one to pardon them as the Japanese killed my wife and three children and five other members of the family. I am doing this because I do not want my children and my people to inherit from me hate for people who might yet be our friends for the permanent interest of the country. After all, destiny has made us neighbors.
“I am happy to have been able to make this spontaneous decision as the head of a Christian nation. My fervent hope is that the benevolent feeling which has inspired me will strike a responsive chord in others as an act of faith to humanity. Love of fellow creatures will always be the supreme law among men and nations and the basis of world peace.”
    - President Elpidio Quirino
