For people watching in the future, if you cant find .img files for the latest version that you might be on, There is a program called payload dumper (just do a simple google and read through on XDA), just load in the payload file which can be found inside your version of the .zip update that you are on, it will extract the boot.img from it. Next you need the canary magisk(on your phone) which will then patch it for you, which you can then flash via fastboot normally.
i want to root img file 10.5.9 and i cant find the correct file on androidfilehost site or anywhere else.

@@willsmitt8223 also I meant full OTA which are 2.4gb files not the incremental OTAs which are usually around 400-500mb hope I didn't mix it up

I keep getting message "Waiting For Any Device" I've downloaded the Android driver, but Windows isn't accepting it. I've tried the Google Driver, and Oneplus driver, and I can't even force feed the driver. It just doesn't accept it. Still have yellow Android in Device Manager

Just a reminder for people who are new to this: By unlocking the Bootloader (Not even rooted yet!) you can no longer use certain apps like Netflix, certain games, banking, Google Pay etc. all apps that require SafetyNet. Google updated SafetyNet so at the moment there is no easy way of getting it to work even with Unlock/Root.
And even worse than this, it seems that OnePlus has a bug, when you figure "oh it's not worth it to lose those apps I just unroot und lock the bootloader to get back to stock" in that you risk breaking your Fingerprint sensor functionality as the persist.img gets corrupted. So at least, BACK THE PERSIST.IMG UP! BEFORE you do this, otherwise there is NO WAY TO FIX IT => Your device has to be RMA'd if you do not have a backup of this file, as only OnePlus can fix that (As it seems by replacing the Fingerprint sensor); or of course you can live with a non functioning in display fingerprint reader.

That is not completely true! The OnePlus line are some of the hardest devices to brick solid. There are layers and layers or recovery mechanisms built into the device to enable a user to get back to root. And from my understanding, OnePlus is the only company that will honor the warranty even if the bootloader is unlocked. There is a program called MSM Tool which makes restoring the device back to stock super simple. And even if you are unable to to Fastboot Mode for the MSM Tool, you can use All-In-One Tools to flash it back to stock. These two tools alone remove all the command line entries and make the OnePlus 8 a great phone to learn how to remove items from your device that you don't want tracking you and stealing personal data.

Great video mate! Don't own a OnePlus device but thinking about switching from Samsung so was just curios about how the rooting process was. It's different. Are there any downsides like on Sammy devices? Like tripping knox and "loosing" some features while going back to stock like on Samsung? Voiding warranty and so on? Also can you do a video showing which Magisk and Xposed modules you use?

when I enter adb devices, I get the device name. But when I enter "adb reboot bootlader" and then "fastboot devices", I don't see the device name.

Need some help here. My OnePlus keeps asking me to 'Use USB to ... Charge only/Transfer files/Transfer photos' whenever I plug it to my PC. This results in my PC not being able to access my phone when in Fastboot Mode (as the device disconnects for a while during the transition to Fastboot Mode). My device is then undetected by my PC and I am unable to proceed with the 'fastboot oem unlock' part of the process (I reckon it's because my OnePlus is in the process of asking me to 'Use USB to...'. I have tried setting my 'Default USB configuration ' in Dev options to File transfer & MTP. However, the phone just won't relent and would always asks me to 'Use USB to...' each time I plug it to my PC. How do I solve this?

you can root almost any device with this method (except samsung haha). just make sure you´re flashing the correct files. btw you can also patch the boot img yourself to be 100% sure you got the right one
don't know why only ./fastboot commands works in my case and not directly typing fastboot

open device manager if using windows and let it do windows update for the driver... itll install the generic google driver and it should work

@@FeeeLX it's a choice now if you want to install it or not if you want to install a custom ROM in that case you need custom recovery obviously. But if you just want to unlock bootloader and root you don't need it unless you require a feature that only can be installed by custom recovery

@@FeeeLX I don't how other people manage backup if there phone get into boot loop or brick but I can share my experience I just never used encryption of data so if my phone ever crashes, I log into twrp and copy my personal data. But after using Custom ROMs for long, I just stopped saving my very important data to phone's memory you can simply save it on cloud like photos on Google photos, whatsapp has cloud backup, important documents can be stored into Google drive whatelse one need?
Using a custom ROM is very challenging if you want to keep it up to the mark and updated always. But it gives happiness to geeks😂😂😂 Just looking around for new features, handling crashes.
on my 8Pro(Android 13) after the "flash boot ...img" ...Finished, the phone is stuck in recover mode, when I press "START", it doesn't start in to the normal system, comes back to recovery mode. I have the China version phone and I used the 10.5.6-GLOBAL-magisk-patched. did I pick the wrong version? thanks

*READ* If magisk shows "Latest: Loading" for the Magisk and Manager options, hit the setting option in the app (the gear) -> Update Channel and switch it to "Stable." I just tried it and it worked. If stable does not work, maybe try a different one.

Whenever I reboot my device into bootloader, my PC doesn't recognize it anymore, so when I type in "fastboot devices" my phone doesn't show up so I cannot unlock the bootloader... Can anyone help?
I find that unplugging and re-plugging in the device after typing fastboot devices usually fixes this issue.
